Gold Skool

Kat Von D Gold Skool Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a bright, medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had medium coverage, which was in line with the description, but I was surprised that it didn’t adhere as evenly as other shades have in the past. The texture emphasized my natural texture a bit and pulled away at my lip lines. It did feel very smooth and lightweight once applied, and it dried down to a transfer-resistant finish… until I ate or drank (even just water.)

This was a shade that would be better layered, though I’d recommend using fingertips to spread it out (unless using over a liquid matte lipstick). It was the type of lip product that lasted as long as one could go without eating or drinking, which for me was about eight hours (but not 24 hours). It wasn’t drying over time and was surprisingly comfortable given the type of formula.

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.18 oz. - $122.22 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “24-hour wear” with a “liquid stain base” that “feels like nothing” on the lips that can be worn “on its own” or layered “as a veil” over another lip color. There’s a lot to like about the formula, and I think as far as the concept of “lip toppers” go, it offers the versatility of actually being easy enough to apply to wear on its own but still be useful layered over other products for a shimmering effect. The doe-foot applicator worked well with the formula, as it spread the color and sparkly bits across the lips quite evenly. The coverage ranged from shade to shade with most having medium, buildable coverage in a single layer, which was in line with the description. They dried down and were transfer-resistant (until eating/drinking/licking of lips) but still had a great shimmering effect that made them look wet, even when they dried. They were more comfortable to wear than I anticipated–lightweight and just a little drying.

One of the bigger downsides is that it’s not going to wear 24 hours. Just about every single shade (all but Thunderstruck) stained my lips intensely, which helped prolong the wear, but the product breaks down with water, just plain water, and of course, it is removable by a slew of removers, including oil which one might encounter during a meal. I found deeper shades stained well but removed unevenly and left behind stained lines and patches on my lips that did not dissipate for almost 24-hours post wear. I didn’t notice that the lip color did not take well to water initially, as I didn’t see any transfer on my glasses, but when I rinsed after I brushed my teeth (where I cup water in my hands, so less elegant than drinking from a glass), I had lip color running like crazy.

This led me to pay even more attention the next time I wore the formula, and sure enough, color lifted with just a sip of water and transferred onto things like paper (but not glassware) and the back of my hand. Some shades made it through meals better than others with the worst offenders lifting more noticeably from the center of the lips. The formula survives some eating and drinking, but the more you drink, the less it survives, and even careful eating/drinking yielded noticeably faded wear between eight and twelve hours of wear. I don’t think a brand would advocate 24-hour wear but expect you not to eat, drink, or even brush your teeth! I would consider it long-wearing in the grand scheme of things with solid six to ten hour wear depending on the shade. They do stain significantly less when layered over something like the brand’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks but can seep through more emollient lipstick formulas.

I feel so validated seeing that you also had issues drinking water with these. I bought Televator and it was one of the VERY few items I have ever returned. I was sad because I adored the color. I’m okay with transfer onto cups, etc…but I couldn’t even take a sip of water without it breaking down and getting everywhere!

Some of them wore pretty well on me (from the original launch) and had enough pigment/staining that the breakdown wasn’t noticeable, but when I brushed my teeth, it looked like a murder scene.

I got this and it’s being returned. There seemed to be very little product inside the tube and it seems dried out, had to dip multiple times to cover my lips. On the arm, it swatches beautifully opaque, but on the lips, it’s mostly glitter with almost no base, settles badly into lip lines, and is drying . In terms of dupes, BITE Gold Gloss is 10x better quality and similar enough in color. Too Faced Melted Gold has more of a metallic beige base, with gold glitter on top, the easiest of the 3 to wear. KVD is probably right in between those two in terms of color/finish

Yeah, I think if you’re just after the color, Bite’s Gold works well, but I think the finish and wear is a bit different so I could see someone preferring the dry down of this, if only it wore better.

Oh, dear. I need to try mine and see whether it’s this bad. I love my other Glimmer Veils, but if this one is this bad, I’ll be returning. It was selling out so fast, I was afraid to wait for a review.

I love the Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick as a lip topper formula as they do last longer than a traditional lipgloss on me. So I was excited to see a gold shade but yeah… no the pigmentation we see from the other shades and way to much work. So easy pass. 😉

Ugh, if this just wore better, I could see myself grabbing this but having difficulty with it by just drinking water? Unfortunately I’ll have to pass on it.

Mine’s going back. It’s really dry, and the sponge tip started to peel off the applicator while I was applying it! I don’t know what happened with QC on this product, but it’s awful.
