Fenty Beauty Rosé on Ice Fairy Bomb Glittering Pom Pom ($42.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a translucent dusting of fine, pale pink sparkle and micro-glitter. There’s not much “color” and the coverage was more like ultra sheer unless the body had any lotion/moisture left on it (which would hold the sparkles better) and then it was a step above ultra sheer. The brand described it as a “hyper-reflective, superfine glittering veil.” Veil should signal sheerness/translucency, so it’s on the right track, but the campaign imagery and the multi-skin toned swatches make it seem far more pigmented and intense than it actually was. It was extremely difficult to get the effect to translate into photos when I wore it on my decolletage, but in person, I saw slight sparkling at times.

The problem with something like this is that it’s just loose sparkle being applied to the skin… without something to help it adhere, it doesn’t have much longevity and doesn’t stay where it’s applied, so it transferred onto clothes (or in my case, my wrist pad at my desk). If I put it somewhere that never rubbed against clothes, there would still be some sparkles apparent (but less than I had initially applied) hours later but just gently rubbing my skin would remove most of the product. It absolutely amplified coverage and hold if patted over dampened skin (water, lotion, etc.), but keep in mind, the pom itself will pickup some of the moisture, too, and it might dirty the puff over time.

Per the brand, it’s a “glittering puff pre-packed with superfine 3D rose gold shimmer” that can be used “all over the body.” The puff is also scented with “vanilla-coconut.” I mostly detected the scent when applying but nothing later on. Over a decade ago, I remember when Benefit had a product exactly like this–a scented, soft pouf that delivered loose sparkle and glitter. They say everything old becomes new again, and it’s interesting to see it brought back (I finally get to say that!). The effect can be achieved by a slew of other products (even the brand’s Killawatt highlighters, though to a more intense effect!), so I think what sells (or doesn’t sell) this product really is the delivery system. The product itself only comes out from the bottom of the puff as well, in case you tried a different side and weren’t getting product to come out (the bottom will look darker pink after a few uses).

If you’re looking for an effective way to highlight the body, try adding a bit of liquid highlighter or loose pearl/glitter into your regular moisturizer–you can control how sheer (or pigmented) the shimmer/sparkle coverage is while giving it something to adhere to the body with. If you feel like patting the soft puff onto your body to deliver subtle sparkle that’s more for your knowledge than so others see it reflecting off your skin, I could see it being enjoyable.
