I WISH I had a vanity in which I could sit at! I hate standing and doing my makeup, but until my husband builds me my dream bathroom, I’m stuck to using a double sided mirror mounted to the bathroom wall next to the window (to get the best lighting, of course).

I stand, and lean against a full-length mirror. I can’t see well enough to do my eye makeup at counter distance if my glasses are off, and I can’t do it with them on!

I’m very nearsighted. In my current room I have mirror closet doors so standing allows me to get pretty close to the mirror, for face makeup and still have both hands free. For eyes if I’m doing something complex I sit and use a hand mirror instead so I can get it really close.

Sit. My lower back and hips were injured in a car accident a couple years ago, plus I’m still recuperating from pulling my achilles tendon. Some days I can’t stand for very long.

I sit down at my makeshift vanity, which is one side of my clothes dresser sitting on a comfy, but ugly hot pink office chair! Used to be worse, though: using bathroom sink vanity and sitting on the toilet, lol?

I think I’d rather sit if I could, but I have to stand. The best light in the house is in front of the bathroom window, and I have a mirror mounted on an expandable arm mounted to the wall next to it. I think it was placed by someone who’s taller than me because I actually have to raise my heels for a full face view! So putting on my makeup doubles as leg workout, I can really feel it when I do a complex eye look that takes 10+ minutes!

Hahahaha! πŸ™‚
I just checked out your blog, it looks interesting. I’m into French make-up as well, so I definitely will be following you!

I stand since I don’t have a vanity to sit at… hopefully I can get one this year so I can stop leaving such a mess in my bathroom. I feel like I would be more organized with all my products(like all the bloggers)if I had something bigger just for my make up… and the lighted mirrors are to die for… I love it.

I built myself a vanity out of 4 melmers (3-drawer storage cubes from Michaels) and picked up a stool from Ikea that fits under it perfectly so I never have to stand to do my makeup again! I feel like I have much better control this way! πŸ™‚

Stand and lean in the bathroom! I’d love to have a vanity, but I haven’t found one I like yet. I’ve already got a great storage set up, so I’d just want a simple desk type of the thing – I figure I’ll know it when I see it.

I always stand unless I have a mirror I can sit in front of on the floor. Hopefully I’ll have my vanity area set up soon, then I’ll probably sit down and do my makeup.

I sit at a built-in vanity. This question has me remembering all the places I’ve done my makeup in the past — standing in the bathroom or in front of a dresser, and sitting at a dining room or kitchen table. Considering the fact that I am so picky about the lighting around my vanity now, it amazes me that I somehow managed to apply makeup with horrible, overhead lighting in the past.

I have tried to apply my makeup in our dining room during the summer months because it’s so much cooler in there, but I just can’t. Instead, I end up back at my vanity with a cold, wet towel draped around me and a high-powered fan aimed directly at me. At some point during my makeup application, I resemble a mummified circus freak trapped in a wind tunnel.

I’m actually surprised how many people stand up to apply makeup! I just couldn’t handle being all hunched over to see my bathroom mirror, plus my bathroom counter is super small and there wouldn’t be room to use it. I don’t have a big desk and chair or a vanity, but I will just sit on my bed and use a hand mirror while applying my makeup since my little desk and my plastic drawer makeup case is right next to my bed.

Hahaha! Both. When in hurry: stand. When more time for a nice eyelook: sitting. And often I switch while I make myself up to see myself in another light or in a bigger mirror.

I am truly surprised at how many people stand while applying their makeup. I have a very small desk that is increasingly becoming a makeshift “vanity” lol. I have increasingly poor vision & astigmatism in my eyes. I need to get as close to my magnified mirror(s) as humanly possible. If I attempted to stand while applying eyeshadow and eyeliner AND dealing with hot flashes every 10 minutes, I would look like Bozo the clown. My take on everyone’s comments is that we are all committed to makeup application and enhancing our natural beauty. Kudos to all my fellow makeup lovers!

I can’t imagine standing doing my makeup!! When I stand and I get focused on what I’m doing on my own face, I get caught up in the rhythm of my own breathing! I know that sounds odd, but it’s true, and it makes me sway. I can do other people’s makeup, but I steady my hand on their face. Plus, I’m too short to get close enough to my bathroom sink, the counter gets in the way. So I sit on the closed toilet lid, swing sideways, and do my makeup in a lighted mirror!
