Deborah Lippmann Makin' Whoopee Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Deborah Lippmann Makin’ Whoopee Nail Lacquer
Deborah Lippmann Makin’ Whoopee Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “clean, modern opalescent rose” with an opaque finish. It’s a neon, fuchsia-pink shot through with iridescent violet and white shimmer.
Essie’s Super Bossa Nova is similar in brightness but it’s much redder. Similarly, Urban Decay Woodstock lacks the fuchsia element of this shade, plus it has a cream finish. SpaRitual Imaginarium comes the closest–it is slightly lighter and, arguably, brighter.
It’s not quite opaque in two coats (which is what I swatched with, because you can just barely see the nail line), but the light has to hit the polish in a certain way for that to be apparent. The formula is on the thinner side (but not watery), so one could easily do a third coat or go for a thicker second coat. It has an interesting natural finish, which I wanted to capture, so I did not use a top coat with these swatches. The finish is a satiny matte–it reminded me of Orly’s Plastix collection but not as dense. I usually see a week of wear with Deborah Lippmann’s polish with minor tip wear by the end of seven days.

It looks a lot like Color Club’s UltraViolet to me.
Love the color, hate the price.
Pretty color, but it’s a bit too frosty for my taste 🙁 I have a Sally Hansen glass fleck that’s a similar color, I’ll content myself with that!
This is a gorgeous color! And the name makes the lover of classic game shows in me (Newlywed Game anyone?) giggle.
I totally used to watch that when I was little and I never wanted to ask my mom what anything meant, because I was always afraid the answer was going to be about making love (I was a prude even at 5, lol) Anyway, I knew there were Whoopee Pie desserts, so I thought “making whoopee” had something to do with those. Totally wrong.
i have this, and it’s one of my go to for toes. such a bright and fun color, yet still office appropriate.
Amazing ♥ !!
it’s pretty, but i wouldn’t wear it.
a question! is there a bright purple available that doesn’t dry matte? purple panic from china glaze and dream on from sinful colors both have a matte/satin? finish and it’s never marked anywhere on the label!
The more neon a shade is, the more likely it will dry down to a matte or semi-matte finish but if you use a shiny top coat, you’ll have a shiny finish.
shows how much i know, hahaha next time i’ll keep that in mind. thanks!!
This shade is so pretty!!!! I have never tried Deorah Lippmann nail colors. I definitely need to pick one up sometime, because they look amazing 🙂
Best nail polish name ever. Even better than the white polish named ‘load’ from illamasqua. XD
wow, so bright… i love it!
Reminds me of OPI Pompeii Purple!
Being a major fuchsia polish lover this one is right up my alley. It has some dupes out there however. You can look to OPI Pompeii Purple, OPI Wing It (summer 2010 flutter collection) & a tish darker is OPI Flashbulb Fuchsia. It’s not unique – but it is because it’s DL and most DL polishes are worth the price in the formula alone. It’s really a pretty color – and who says fuchsia only in summer? I love to wear it on my toes dead of winter under socks and only I know it’s there and take out my pigges to look and makes me smile big time at bath and bedtime to see a great fuchsia on my toes!
OMG I’m such a sucker for any and all pinks seriously I probably have something similar to this in my stash but wow this PINK is soooo pretty!!!!!
