The Sultry Season: Cle de Peau #117 Extra Silky Lipstick

Cle de Peau #117 Extra Silky Lipstick ($52.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a creamy darkened raspberry with a plummy edge.  Extra Silky Lipsticks are one of my favorite lipstick formulas, for their lightweight feel, moisturizing properties, and the way colors look on.  It hugs lips but never feels drying or clingy; it always looks smooth, lush, and rich.  I haven’t met an Extra Silky shade I didn’t find appealing–nearly universally so.  The color applies opaque, even though it feels and looks like it might not in the swatch.

I recommend applying less than you think, because it’s easy to over-apply the product here due to the creamy nature of the formula.  At this price (and the amount you get), you don’t want to waste a single bit!  These are also scent- and taste-free as far as I can tell.   I don’t have any exact dupes at the moment, but perhaps as the series progresses, we’ll find something.

Is this the right vamp for you? Would you wear it?

The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

See photos and swatches…

This is very pretty, but for some reason I can’t stand lipsticks that don’t have a color name, only a number. I won’t buy #117 but I would buy a name like “Sultry Raspberry”, lol!

YES, YES and defintely YES. This is a perfect shade, it shows some color but it’s not too much. If money were no object for me right now I’d get it!

Gorgeous colour and creamy texture. That aside, I would never pay $52.00 for a lipstick. That is outrageous. Lipsticks are one of the cheapest makeup products to make!

I said ‘leave it.’ Don’t get me wrong this is a BEAUTIFUL color and it looks fantastic on you! I would NEVER ever pay that much for a lipstick though. NEvvvvverrr!!! >.< Maybe one day, but today I will pass.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Is there a MAC dupe for this? Cle de Peau is a bit too expensive for me (& I don’t know whether it is available in my country).

This is sooo pretty, but I think it would be too red on my lips. Is there something that is similar but maybe lighter? Thanks!

The closest dupe I have is Jordana Grape, which is slightly more mauve (and not nearly so gloriously creamy looking)… That is pretty spectacular though! We don’t have Cle de Peau in NZ but if we did, expect to pay over $100 for it – here, even a Chanel lipstick is more than $45 🙁

(still, it’s nice to at least have the option I guess!)

hhhmmm. maybe the summer season ending wasn’t the worst thing. Christine, can you please tell me how the numbers on the MAC products (ex:A68) are turned into dates? And if I’m warm toned should i be using the NW instead of the NC? thanks!

Christine Avatar

The letter indicates the batch number (A = first, B = second), while the second number/letter indicates the month (1-9 = January through September; A = October, B = November, C = December), and the last number is the year it was made.

Warm tones use NC 🙂

This color is very nice on you, very natural looking. It really complements your complexion! Natural looking colors are always the best, probably why I like those colors. 🙂

This color is absolutely stunning. Christine, I blame you for my Cle de Peau addiction! Lol! Seriously, I do love the formula for the Extra Silky lipsticks – I have #124 and it is a dream to wear. Do you think #117 is too dark for a modified smoky eye? Not full-on black smoky eye, but a more subtle smoky eye?

Hi Christine…I was wondering if the Silky Lipsticks have a scent to them? Also, have you found a MLBB shade in the Silky Lipstick yet? TY and keep up the good work on your blog! I ♥ it!
