Chanel Harmonie du Soir Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Harmonie du Soir Eyeshadow Palette
Chanel Harmonie du Soir Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) contains four shades, which are described as “bronze gold, taupe, violet-plum, and pink.” The formula of this palette is different than Chanel’s usual quads, but the palette is much like Topkapi, which came out in July 2011.
The first shade is a golden bronze with a frosted finish. It had full color coverage, and it applied smoothly–almost melted against the skin. Dior Night Golds is similar but lighter. Dior Couture Gold is lighter. Chanel Apparence is lighter, more golden, less warm-toned.
Next, there is a reddened taupe–little hints of brown and gray mix to create a warmed-up taupe with a soft frosted finish. It had lovely color payoff and a soft, smooth application. Urban Decay Rehab is darker, grayer. Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo is similar–slightly more of a gray sheen. MAC Satni Taupe is darker.
On the bottom left, there is a reddened plum with a delicate pink shimmer-sheen. Like the previous shades, it also had excellent pigmentation and a very silky-smooth feel and application. L’Oreal Glistening Garnet is pinker. NARS Charade is more subdued. NARS Grand Palais is darker, browner. Urban Decay Last Call is slightly darker. MAC Cranberry is darker, less pink.
The final sahde is a pale, light pink with yellow undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. It had great color payoff and went on very smoothly. MAC Love Power is darker. theBalm Matt Chung is lighter, less yellow-toned. MAC Young Venus is cool-toned. Dior Garden Pastels is similar. MAC Taupeless is a bit darker. Inglot #356 is less shimmery.
Guerlain Turandot isn’t exactly the same, but they had some at-a-glance similarities. Turandot has a stronger yellowy gold shade, as well as a reddish-brown (instead of the pink in this palette). The plum in Turandot is much more red-toned, less pink. The taupe in Guerlain’s palette is darker, more of a metallic sheen, less gray.
The formula in this palette is excellent; soft, buttery textures combined with excellent color payoff and beautiful long-wear. If Chanel changed all of their quads to this formula, I’d be in serious danger–or at least my wallet would be! What’s great is that soft, smooth, dense consistency isn’t powdery at all–just fabulous color and smooth application. I wore the palette without a base, and it wore for a full eight hours without any creasing or fading. When I wore it over a primer, I achieved the same results. The colors apply true-to-pan, don’t require any packing to get there, and they’re extremely blendable.
Now, I would like to point out that 0.14 oz. isn’t a lot of product, and it’s less than their regular eyeshadow quads ads well.

Is it weird that it bugs me that the little Chanel logos aren’t lined up in across the different eyeshadow pans? Like they were set in a little askew?
Ahh, It bugs me too! But the palette is so beautiful as a whole that it makes up for it. 🙂
lol that’s too funny, it bugs me when i start using it and the cc go away, same with mac and lancome when they have a pretty design 🙁
Beautiful quad. But egads, that price tag is crazy. Too easily dupable to justify it.
Thank you for the comparison to Turandot. I was concerned that the two palettes might be clones, but after seeing your actual swatches, it is obvious that they are not although they are somewhat similar in concept. Looks like I’ll still be getting both of them 🙂
The shadows in Harmonie du Soir look like they have the same ultra smooth, metallic finish as those in the Topkapi quad from last year’s Byzance collection. If that’s the case, then Harmonie will be perfect for creating dramatic and stunning evening looks like the editorial look you’ve created.
Oh. I didn’t want this originally, and now I’m really tempted. *tries to resist*
futile! It’s freaking gore-gus!!
Once again Chanel seems to be my holiday collection of choice which surprises me. Yes, I think I would choose this quad over the Guerlain Turandot. I’m not exactly sure why other than to say I believe this one would suit my neutral complexion much better with it’s pinker base. Love your eye look here as I have already mentioned. Still, it’s worth mentioning again 🙂 and again..
Oh crap. I seriously want this. And Turandot.
Words can’t even begin to describe how badly I want this palette–it’s flippin’ gorgeous!!! I am always trying to talk myself out of Chanel quads though because of the ridiculous amount of product they give you. :/
Just curious, why did this get an A & Topkapi (which got the same ratings across the board) get an A+?
I changed the cut off for A+ to 99% and above, not 98%. It’s still a decision I’m reconsidering – I wanted A+ to be HARD to get so only a SMALL amount of products would get – ones truly perfect across the board, but now it’s *really* hard, lol.
This was really the only review I’d been waiting for DAYS!
I’m really happy it turned out to be an A, though I’ve just gone for Holiday and Frisson nail polishes of Chanel to the date, I’ll definitely be RUNNING to get this one and Stardust blush!
But a question, how do you think this compares to Tom Ford Burnished Amber quad? Cause I really had an eye for months on that too!
They seem like they’re a little similar, but this one doesn’t seem as warm.
what would you consider to be 5/5 packaging?
A lot of rubberized and cardboard packaging get 5/5 or get close!
I love each of the shades individually, but I don’t care for the way they look together; since they all seem rather easily dupable, I’d just set out to find them individually (if I didn’t already have comparable shades).
That is so gorgeous! My wallet feels your wallet’s pain, Christine! 😀
0.14 is almost half of the regular palettes. i was not expecting such a small amount…
This looks amazing.. I was also considering buying the Tom Ford Enchanted quad.. Do you plan on reviewing that one anytime soon? I’d love to see your review before I dish out the cash for it 🙂
really such a small amount for a palette that cost 65 dollars? okay chanel haha
I’m on the fence about this palette! Christine, would you recommend it for someone with cool skin and grey-blue eyes?
Yes!
Honestly, I threw money at the screen for that eyeliner… 😛
I love this so much, I can’t wait to get it! I am constantly hunting for two things – the perfect gold eyeshadow, and the perfect taupe eyeshadow – this palette has great contenders for both!!! Be still my heart!!!
Do you happen to have a specific release date or is it October 1?
No specific release date!
I love the look you made with this palette! Really beautiful.
Too warm for my complexion, but it’s nice to see Chanel clean up with a good holiday palette after their unimpressive fall release.
no no no Chanel!!! I had just sworn I would not buy another palette! Why do you do this to me? It’s too gorgeous……no no no I must not buy! But I think I will!
I love the color combination! But I’ll probably pass on this…
wow wow… great danger for my wallet too !!! this quad is great !!!! I can”t resist to these colours !!!!!
hoping that my banker doesn’t come on this website !!!! lol !
Well, I’m glad I don’t have to worry about getting this since no one at the Chanel counter at Nordstrom’s Troy Mi, Somerset mall store will ever wait on me.
You should contact Nordstrom to complain 🙂
I had a horrible experience at a Nordstrom counter, as well, at the Westside Pavillion in SoCal a while back, but in my case it was Armani. However, the SAs at the NARS counter are absolutely amazing! My experience at the Armani counter was the only negative experience I’ve had buying makeup.
Hi Christine, how does the gold and taupe compare to the gold and taupe of the Topkapi quad?
The gold in Topkapi is much yellower, and the taupe is cooler-toned.
Totally awesome palette!
Christine, are you going to make a review on Chanel Malice nail polish?
Is this palette Nordstrom only or will it also be available at Sephora?
Chanel doesn’t sell color cosmetics at Sephora!
I am fall in love with Chanel christmas collection
I’m a big fan of Chanel eyeshadows for their great colors and steadiness! Hope to buy this new product in the nearest future
Gorgeous. Is that the gold under your eye or a different pencil? And on the center lid, is that gold or the taupe? It’s SO beautiful. I’m really looking forward to getting this whole collection.
It is UD Honey 🙂
It reminds me a bit of my beloved Chanel planètes quad. But that one didn’t have a gold and was less iridescent.
Such a beautiful palette! The colors look gorgeous on you! I’m having the hardest time choosing between this one and Guerlain’s Turandot. I’m warm and fair toned, and I have blue eyes and red hair. Which palette do you think would look better on me?
Guerlain’s Turandot!
Got this one from Neiman Marcus yesterday. Love it!
I’m so glad I found this blog!! I’ve been eyeing this pallette for a while. The way blended it looks amazing. I wish I can do makeup at your skill level. I’m Asian with warm undertone. Do you think these shades would be good for me? Thank you.
Thank you, Qing! Yes, they’d definitely work for you!
Do you think this palette is worth the high cost? I’m afraid that it would get pushed to the bottom of my makeup box. I’m Asian, NC30-35 (probably about 35 right now), and I wear eyeshadow approximately 3 days out of the week. Is this wearable enough to be worn at work all the time?
I think it’s a great palette, and depending on your comfort level/what’s allowed at work, yes I could see it working at work, but it would have to be a less conserative office!
Wow, beautiful! Do you think these colors would work/show up well on dark skin (similar to Kelly Rowland’s). Thanks!
I think it would!
Dear Christine, could you please tell me if the light pink and the brown tone are similar to the two shades of Chanel’s “mystic eyes?” because I love the lighter brown & pink so much but don’t want to buy 14 mystic eyes again because I did not use the silver and dark brown color… Thank!:)
I think Mystic Eyes is cooler-toned!
The palette is amazing!! I got it because of this review 🙂
I swatched it at the shop — and yes! they are buttery. Blendable. So soft and creamy — but not flakey or prone to fall out. Love it. I have oily lids and these stay in place without primer. I haven’t tried it with primer yet (because I haven’t had the need to.)
I am an NC30. Color on my skin tone great. Payoff is wonderful. No need to pack.
The only downside is, there’s not much product. I’m sure that it’ll last me ages, but those pans are still a little on the small side — makes me ‘worry’ that I’ll run out.
And since it’s a little buttery — I’ve discovered that applying it with a stiffer brush (Hakuhodo’s weasel hair) works very well! I’m happy about that because I hardly use those brushes except for blending in liner. Applying it with a softer brush (squirrel) is also as good.
I am thinking of buying a 2nd one as a back up!
i’m thinking of getting one as a back up too!! are we mad? haha!!
Dear Christine, I really love your review. Thanks for your good review and great photo. They really help
me decide which holidays palatte worth purchasing.
Thank you, Darunee!
Hi! Wow, this looks so good on you 🙂 I wondered if you could help me choose between this and Guerlain’s Turandot – I’m fair-skinned with a warmer undertone (probably between NC10 and 20 – don’t know because I don’t use MAC’s make-up, but I recently got matched to shade 01 Beige alabatre of the new Lancome Teint Idole foundation, so my guess would be that I’m on the pale side), light brown hair with natural blond highlights and green eyes. Would you say one of these palettes would suit me, or should I look for something else? Earlier I was thinking of getting a Dior quint (no idea which one, though, probably something on the neutral side), but wanted a holiday palette as well 🙂 Help?
I think Harmonie du Soir would work for you, Alex!
