Chanel Fascination (41) Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad ($59.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a cool-toned, bluish-gray quad is one of two quads released with the Jeux de Regards collection. The color selections in the palette are on the more basic side, with the most interesting shade being a navy blue with a slight duochrome, which was greatly hindered by its powdery texture and sheer color payoff, so it really lost a lot of its intrigue once applied. It’s somewhat better when applied damp, but it still doesn’t have opaque pigmentation, though the powderiness goes away. If this one shade had performed better, the quad as a whole would be quite nice (the other three shades perform much better), but I really want to see all four shades perform well. The problem child of the palette also noticeably faded within six hours of wear, while the silver shade lasted slightly better for seven hours, and the remaining two shades were still going strong after eight and a half hours of wear.

Fascination #1 is a medium-dark, purplish-blue with an iridescent aqua sheen. It almost has a duochrome finish, but it gets lost as the color payoff is quite weak. Even when applied damp, it doesn’t yield more than semi-opaque color (it appears smoother in color but still sheer). Fyrinnae Wicked (P, $6.80) can also be somewhat powdery, but it’s a much deeper, darker color with a stronger purple base. Urban Decay Prank (LE, $18.00) is darker. MAC Bleuluxe #2 (P) is more sparkly. Maybelline Seashore Frosts (LE, $6.99) is a cream product. Clinique Big Blue (P, $16.00) is a cream product, less duochrome sheen. See comparison swatches.

Fascination #2 is a cool, purplish-white with a satin finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, and it wasn’t powdery and applied smoothly. theBalm A3 (LE, $16.00) is whiter. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #1 (P) is more sparkly. Sugarpill Tako (P, $12.00) is whiter. MAC Flawless Figure (LE, $15.00) is more frosted. MAC Vellum (P, $15.00) has a stronger sheen. Fascination #3 is a dark gray with a cool, purplish undertone and a satin finish. It had excellent color payoff, and the texture was just right–soft but not powdery, dense and buttery–so it applied beautifully on the skin. Urban Decay Redemption (LE, $18.00) is similar. LORAC Slate (P) is bluer-tinted. Disney by Sephora Flotsam (LE) is similar. theBalm Matt McDonald (LE, $16.00) is bluer. NARS Mandchourie #2 (P, $24.00) is also bluer. Fascination #4 is a blackened navy blue with a hint of green/teal underneath and a satin finish. It had very nice pigmentation and applied smoothly, evenly, and blended out well.
