How to Wear a Deep, Dark Lip Color – Tips & Tricks

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Wear a Deep, Dark Lip Color

Share your best tips and tricks for how to apply, wear, and maintain dark lip color!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

My Tips

  1. Apply a lip pencil in either a color similar to yours, clear, or similar to the lipstick (the latter is my preference).
  2. Apply the dark lip color using a lip brush for maximum precision–you really want crisp, even lines when working with such a bold color.
  3. Apply concealer outside of the lips and blend towards the lips to clean up any stray lip color and help bring the lips forward.

How-to Make Makeup Last in the Heat – Tips & Tricks

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How-to Make Makeup Last in the Heat

Share your best tips and tricks for making your makeup outlast the heat!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

My Tips

  1. I like primer to help give any foundation or product used on the skin something extra for wear!  This usually extends wear for me by an hour or two.
  2. Creams and liquids are great for the base, and then they can be set with coordinating powders to lock in color (e.g. foundation and powder, cream blush and powder blush).   Having pressed or blot powder for on-the-go can also help fix a slightly melting face!
  3. Look for long-wearing, water-resistant/waterproof formulas designed for more extreme conditions.

How to Minimize Redness in the Skin – Tips and Tricks

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Minimize Redness on the Skin

Share your best tips and tricks for minimizing, correcting, or camouflaging redness in the skin!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

My Tips

  1. I don’t actually have too many tips, as I don’t suffer from too much redness in the skin so I haven’t had to deal with it personally to a great degree.  I get some around my nose and sometimes on my cheeks, and for me, light-medium coverage foundation usually covers both significantly.  Otherwise, green is known to mitigate redness, and I remember having a green concealer once upon a time.

All About Cream Foundation with Uzo, NARS International Lead Makeup Stylist

NARS Mesopotamia Eye Paint
NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation — Light

NARS Radiant Cream Compact Foundation looks to make cream foundation modern by using the latest and greatest technology to create a cream foundation that has a lightweight, luminous finish that can be applied wet or dry with buildable coverage. It’s a formula that is designed to blend seamlessly (which is the aspect that encouraged me to write-up a how-to on contouring and highlighting with cream foundation) while enhancing the skin’s natural radiance.

If it’s been on your radar or wishlist, check out the NARS + Temptalia Foundation Matrix to find your shade match!

It’s been awhile since I’ve reached for a cream foundation, because they’ve often felt too heavy and provided too much coverage in the past, and cream foundation has come a long way over the years–so I was incredibly curious to learn more about NARS’ take on it. What better way to learn more about it and how best to incorporate cream foundation into your beauty routine than getting the scoop from NARS’ International Lead Makeup Stylist Uzo! She began as a resident makeup artist and has since worked with such high profile clients as Drew Barrymore, Naomi Campbell, Olivia Munn, and Molly Sims and creates looks for designers, like Marc Jacobs, at New York Fashion Week.

TEMPTALIA: First things first, what’s your favorite way to apply Radiant Cream Compact Foundation (RCCF)? What are your go-to tools?
UZO: I really like to use my fingers to apply RCCF. Nothing beats using the fingertips to blend this luxurious cream seamlessly into the skin to give the complexion that natural, radiant finish. RCCF is packaged with a sponge that can be used wet or dry, and is great for both application and blending. The sponge really helps for a quick and smooth application, but I always go back and use my fingertips to diffuse product to perfection. I use a concealer brush to blend product around the eye area with more precision. I may also use a foundation brush when I want to sweep on deeper shades of the foundation on the cheeks and jaw line for contouring.

TEMPTALIA: Have you found an unusual but incredible way to use the new formula?
UZO: Although, RCCF was designed to make skin look its absolute best when used alone, I will play with different formulas when I want to make skin look super-glamorous and red carpet-ready. I use a liquid foundation, first, to create a smooth, even and radiant canvas and then blend a little amount of RCCF on to the cheeks and forehead to give skin more coverage. Skin looks luxe and super-polished and never cakey or heavily made up.

How to Pair Blush with Bold Eye Makeup – Tips and Tricks

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Pair Blush with Bold Eye Makeup

Share your best tips and tricks for picking the right blush when you’ve gone with bolder eye makeup!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

My Tips

  1. If the eye makeup is very warm-toned, then something neutral to lightly warm-toned for blush tends to work well.
  2. If the eye makeup is very deep/dark/smoky, then something muted and neutral — like a beige, brown, or pink.
  3. If the eye makeup is very cool-toned, a muted plum.

How to Pair Blush with Bold Lipstick – Tips and Tricks

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Pair Blush with Bold Lipstick

Share your best tips and tricks for picking the right blush when you’ve gone with bolder lips!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

My Tips

  1. It really depends on the color and depth of the lipstick.  If it’s a brighter coral, a soft coral blush tends to work well–can also be a warm pink or peach.  Deeper reds and berries, I tend to opt for more neutral beiges, browns, and pinks as they add a little color but not much.  They tend to define more than add a pop  of color.
  2. When in doubt, go for something neutral and muted, because it will give cheeks something but nothing exaggerated.
  3. It can also depend on how the eyes look, too, but I often match the undertones of the lip with the undertones of the blush.
