Pierre Guillaume Paris Spicematic 11.2 Perfume is a cool, aromatic skin scent that features spearmint, ginger, and pine before shifting into a ginger, pine, and cedar combination that has touches of smoky incense before drying down to a whisper of lightly spiced and smoky cedar. The notes are listed as: spearmint, saffron, ginger, frankincense, red cedar, and Siberian pine.

It opened with crisp, cooling spearmint, ginger, and pine–fresh, crisp, and very aromatic. There was saffron lurking in the background, diffusing some of the coolness over the first few minutes, by adding a layer of leather. Everything softened and married together for a frosty, earthy pine with subtle smokiness–more blended, not quite as aromatic but smooth and cool.

The ginger was fresh, more aromatic and lightly citrus, and moved to the top after 15 minutes of development with the spearmint receding noticeably. Spicematic warmed up after a half hour as the cedar rose over the pine, and sweet incense curled around both. The drydown was primarily lightly spiced, sweet and smoky cedar.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise. 

Longevity

It lasted for three hours until it was a skin-scent and about eight six before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were very close-wearing even from the initial application.

Personal Thoughts

The development was interesting as it went from quite chilly in feel to something warmer and drier by the end, though it was a very quick progression and short-wearing scent! I don’t mind something that wears closer overall, but I’d like better intensity on my skin when I go to sniff.

Pierre Guillaume Paris L’Ombre Fauve 8.1 Eau de Parfum begins with intense, spiced amber and gets more leathery and animalic as the other notes move into focus, but within five minutes, the composition was mostly powdery musk with a tinge of amber underneath. The powdery musk continued through the drydown, though it became softer, fuzzier, and more combined with sweet, spiced woods and amber.

The notes are listed as amber, musk, woods, incense, and patchouli.

It opened with harsh, spiced amber, as it felt more abrasive to my nose on an early breath, but a dark, earthy patchouli tempered the amber and brought on its more resinous qualities, which then shifted into a mix of spiced amber, earthy patchouli, and leathery, animalic undertones. After five minutes, there was a strong, powdery musk that enveloped the entirety of the fragrance that overwhelmed the amber and patchouli and created an aroma of sweet powder and faint amber.

It was extremely powdery and fairly musky for the next hour and a half with little shift until about two hours in where the amber seemed to take up about 30-40% of the space against the powdery musk, which had the effect of most noticeably dropping the intensity of the powdery feel.

Over the next few hours, the amber never amounted for more than 50% of the composition, and as it reached the dry down, powdery musk took over again, just less intense. The drydown also had a subtle, sweetly-spiced woody undertone and resinous sweetness.

Application

Longevity

It lasted for six hours until it was a skin-scent and about 12 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection after two and a half hours of wear.

Personal Thoughts

It ended up being far too powdery for me through most of its wear! There were moments, especially near and in the drydown, where the powdery musk was softer and cloud-like as it combined with warm, spiced amber, that I quite enjoyed.

Pierre Guillaume Paris Peau d’Ambre 28 Eau de Parfum is a sumptuously sweet, balsamic mix of resins, pine, and incense. It’s a warm, resinous amber with hints of smoky incense and well-worn leather. All the notes blended exceptionally well together in a way that made it hard to tell which was most responsible for the effects. The notes are listed as: resins, amber, leather, though the description also calls out frankincense, fir balsam, opoponax, and benzoin.

It opened with rich, spiced resins–balsamic, thick, and heady–that oozed against a backdrop of pine. The intensity of the spice and the pine amped up noticeably after 10 minutes. I was surprised at how richly sweet everything was; more of a resinous, deep sweetness rather than pure sugar. It had a sweeter, more vanillic quality to its opening than many other amber-driven scents I’ve tried in the past.

There was no mistaking this for anything other than a heavily spiced, amber and benzoin bomb with pine in the background, and it stayed this way for four hours.
When it shifted, the woodiness came through more significantly, and the sweetness turned creamier, milkier, and lightly spiced with more noticeable vanilla. The drydown was barely-spiced vanilla-amber.

Personal Thoughts

It’s a beautiful amber fragrance and well worth a sampling if you haven’t yet found your perfect amber scent. Right now, I’m more enamored with other ambers I’ve tried recently as well as some fragrances I already own that this isn’t something I’m racing out to buy. I’ve set aside the sample to revisit later, though.

Pierre Guillaume Paris Felanilla 21 Eau de Parfum is a warm, cozy spiced vanilla and amber with periods of powderiness, woodiness, and earthiness. The longer it is on, the more spiced vanilla-amber it became. The notes include: vanilla, iris, saffron, banana wood, hay absolute, and amber.

It opened with a boozy, cinnamon-spiced vanilla with a lick of fruity sweetness that disappeared as quickly as it arrived. It left behind a warm, spiced vanilla that blanketed powdery iris. There was a subtle earthy quality deep in the background that continued to keep the composition from becoming all that sweet. It grew more grounded; earthier, woodier, and powdered with vanilla that was less and less dominant, more like wrapped around each element but like a veil.

The spiced vanilla returned to the forefront with the powderiness dropping significantly after 30 minutes of wear. It became more resinous and golden as the amber joined the vanilla soon after, which resulted in a deeper, richer spiced vanilla with more body. It continued in this phase for quite sometime, not really shifting until the drydown about four hours in where it was less spiced and had more sweetness.

Application

It was moderately long-lasting as it was detectable as a skin-scent as long as eight hours, and it had moderate sillage and moderate projection, which started to reduce after three hours of wear.

Personal Thoughts

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! There are several other fragrances from this house that I want to try out, so it didn’t rise to an immediate buy, but it’s certainly worth holding onto the sample for a re-wear later on down the road!

Pierre Guillaume Paris Coze 02 Eau de Toilette is a warm, cozy mix of spice, earthy patchouli, and boozy vanilla. Per the brand, Coze 02 features the following notes:

• Indian hemp (Canapa sativa seed oil), pepper, chili, coffee, ebony wood, chocolate, Bourbon vanilla beans, patchoulii, blonde tobacco

Coze 02 opened with a tickle of pepper and clove spices before an earthy patchouli arrived with a trail of chocolaty goodness that has vanilla sweetness bringing the composition together smoothly. After 15 minutes, there was a tendril of smoky incense that weaved through, which enhanced the drier, woody aspect of the scent as a whole. The blonde tobacco showed up faintly after a half hour but doesn’t stay for long.

The scent has a lot of nuance to it with different notes shifting in and out of focus, but the fragrance softens and becomes more gossamer like within two hours of wear, sitting just on the skin. Coze 02 was a beautiful blend of spiced woods with chocolate, incense, and vanilla weaving in and out over the next few hours. The dry down allowed for soft, spicy woods with a veil of incense enveloped in a cloud of vanilla (that was never sugary or truly gourmand).

For testing, I purchased a 2ml glass spray vial of the scent, and I used approximately half of the vial for each wear test, which was applied to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I use an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.  It was shorter-wearing (a skin scent within three hours) with light sillage for the first hour.

Subjectively, I fell in love with Coze 02 immediately. The opening, the bloom of the heart, and the dry down with its base notes. There were no awkward stages, I just loved it from start to finish. I wore it once and immediately purchased a full-sized bottle, and I have no regrets. The only “issue” is I wish this was something available in an eau de parfum or extrait, because I love the way it smells that I wish it was stronger and longer-lasting.
