A Very Berry Glitter

Lacquistry Ashberry Frease Nail Lacquer ($8.75 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a mix of “fine, extra-fine raspberry and charcoal with raspberry mini-hex and raspberry holo mini-hex with gunmetal and holo gunmetal mini- and medium-hex glitter in a clear base.” It has medium-dark pink shimmer in an assortment of sizes going as large as small hexagon-shaped glitter particles, and then some glitters look redder than others, along with some black and silver hexagons. Some pieces are holographic, so they look like rainbow when tilted/angled.

I applied two coats of it on its own on my thumb and pinky nails, and then one coat layered over Color Club’s Fashion Moment, which is a reddish burgundy cream color. I thought it worked well over burgundy, and I think it would be really nice over black, too. The formula is on the thicker side, but it ends up being a good base as the glitters spread evenly across the nail without having to dab or pull at them, and what you see in the bottle makes it onto the nail. Some care is needed, though, to avoid over-applying from the thickness. It’s semi-opaque in coverage after two coats, and you might get nearly opaque coverage with three coats. I typically get a week of wear without chipping or peeling with Lacquistry’s formula.

I really don’t know how I managed to keep this list to ten, because I feel like I fall in love with a new polish every week. There were SO many more amazing polishes that aren’t on this list, though. I tried to go across brands and put together a list of ones that really struck me or were more original.

Did Someone Say Stuffing?

Lacquistry Wattle Over With That Stuffing Nail Lacquer ($8.75 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as “warm shimmering sand tones with golden flecks and deep green with a whisper of brown for seasoning.” The smallest bits are golden copper, along with a few silver pieces. Then there are squares of champagne and small and large hexagons of emerald green and copper.

Two coats resulted in semi-opaque coverage–there is some visible nail peeking through wherever it’s mostly the smaller copper glitter (Lacquistry showed in their preview two coats where it was mostly opaque). I used one coat alone on my thumb (I meant to do two!) and two coats alone on my pinky, and then I layered one coat over Deborah Lippmann’s Through the Fire. I thought I had done two coats on my thumb, but upon re-doing two coats while writing the review, I definitely only did one!

The consistency of this shade was really good; thick enough to hold all the various shapes and sizes of glitter but not so thick that it was difficult to apply or pooled along the edges. All of the glitter particles spread well across the nail just applying it as you would a normal polish. I didn’t have to play tug o’ war to get an even look. I haven’t tested this particular shade, but I have tested four Lacquistry glitters for wear, both alone and layered over various other polishes, and on me, they last seven days without chipping or flaking off. This one wasn’t too gritty/bumpy, but I’d still recommend a thicker top coat. Lacquistry will be re-stocking her holiday shades sometime next week (per their Facebook).
