Becca Star Child (2) Light Shifter Finishing Veil ($34.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer coverage, so it did tint and show up noticeably on my skin (as it was not my shade), but I would expect this shade to work for light-medium to medium complexions.

This was the first shade I bought from the range, as I thought it would suit my coloring, but it was too dark by a few shades, so you won’t find me wearing it above, since that wouldn’t make sense, but I did apply and test it out nonetheless (in person, where nobody but hubby could see me!). The powder initially had a smoother, silky consistency but a firmer press, so it wasn’t powdery, which I liked, but it developed hard pan quickly.

The hard pan made it harder and harder to pick up product and rendered it useless after a few uses. I had to use a paper towel to rub away that hardened layer to bring it back to life, which meant product waste and an extra step to use it.

Ignoring the hard pan problem (which isn’t minor!), the powder itself did have a satin finish that softened and smoothed out my skin. It applied evenly and diffused well without lifting up base products or turning patchy/caky in places. When applied over my base, it extended the wear of it by an hour and a half.

It's supposed to be a "weightless setting powder" that has a "filtering effect" and "satin finish." The coverage was supposed to be "sheer," which I'd agree with, but it had enough coverage that the wrong shade did visibly change the undertone or depth of my skin, and it was better to err on the lighter side than going too dark in my experience.

I felt like it worked well when I was able to pick up product, but the product was more firmly-pressed into the pan and seemed to get firmer and firmer with subsequent use. It really ate up any oils, creams, liquids, etc. that transferred onto my brush. It's not uncommon to get traces of one's liquid or cream-based foundation when using setting powder, so I was disappointed that the powder was so reactive. I had to use a paper towel to rub off the surface to loosen the powder back up to be able to pick up product with my brush.

Ignoring the texture issue, when the powder was applied to my skin, it did have a satin-like finish, so it could add more of skin-like finish if used over a more matte base and tamp down the shine of a dewier base (like the coordinating Dewing Tint). It applied evenly, didn't turn cakey or look powdery on my skin, and it did extend the wear of my base by an hour or so.
