What’s your best tip for flawless-looking skin? With the holidays coming up, there are more and more photos ops–we all want to look our best!
Semi-matte foundation always seems to look natural without being too flat, but it’s also not worrisome that dewy will translate into shiny/oily on camera.

MUFE HD worked wonders for me at my wedding, my skin looked flawless I also like to give myself an at home facial: clairsonic, philosophy peel, mask, deep hydration a night or two before the event. Skin looks very glowy and clear the following morning.
I have oily acne-prone skin and I like Revlon Mineral Mousse foundation, in the winter I add a drop of oil-free moisturizer mixed in it. But I love the natural smooth eventone look it gives me.
I agree with two things already said: buffing and letting skin breathe by taking a day off. Buffing has made such a difference in my makeup routine.
MUFE HD primer underneath NARS Sheer glow foundation and concealor where necessary. Also I think it's important to really take care of your skin if you want a truly flawless look- one tip that I have is to change your pillowcase at least every week! Your face is against it for hours each day
One of the best things you can do it let your skin breathe!! Let it be naked for at least a day lol don't wear any makeup and you'll see a difference trust me...and don't forget to exfoliate once in a while, it helps a lot too... I love to use the Clean and Clear Deep Cleansing Astringent after I wash my face, and it does wonders to my skin...I notice the next morning that it really cleans it out :)
Sleep sleep sleep! It is usually overlooked because it is said so often but it really does make a difference. Over the Thanksgiving break week, I slept 9 hours instead of my usual 6 and those 3 hours does complete WONDERS to my skin. One day, I woke up, went into my bathroom and I was shocked because I thought I somehow already put my foundation on. My face was naturally glowing without the usual blemishes and uneven skin tone! I am definitely changing my targeted bed time.
Flawless skin starts on the inside so I always make sure I am eating right and getting enough hydration. Then I make sure my skin care routine is a good one, not overdoing the masks to dry me out or going overboard with the moisturizer (I use a combo moisturizer since I have that darn oily t-zone). After that I like to use mineral foundation because it's so light and I can use it as a concealer as well. Brings everything to an even canvass that I can add color to - so fun to play with the color!
Buff. Seriously, apply your foundation and concealer, dust generously with loose powder (pressed doesn't work quite the same, I'm not sure why) and then use a dense fairly flat soft bristled brush and then buff lightly with small circular motions. It removes excess powder, smooths any smudges or unevenness and makes your face look seamless. Oh, and add a tiny bit of highlighter across the tops of your cheekbones, a light line down your nose, a dab on the temples and a dot on your chin. Then buff again. Looks fabulous in photos!
Buffing weather it's a liquid or m ineral foundation is the key to a flaless finish. I to also prefer Satin to Matte foundation over "glow" ones simply because you can add glow where you need it instead of all over.
spread the foundation from your forehead down....it gives the most natural looking coverage .. i think =D
After applying foundation and powder but before any other makeup,I spritz my face with toner and stipple all over with a Beauty Blender sponge. This seems to really set the makeup but also removes any extra powder.
My best advice is GET SLEEP! LOL! Ok, besides that.. a good moisturizer that i let "sink in" a decent amount of time before ANY makeup! As for coverage. .I'm a huge fan of using MAC Paint in Bare Canvas under the eyes and concealer on top. If Bare Canvas is too light, any matte paint in the neutral/skin tones give concealers something to grab onto.
A few days without heavy makeup, so that the skin can breathe, than a face treatment at home with some clay mask - nothing makes the skin so smooth. Whatever makeup you wear afterwards looks amazing
I suffer from uber dry skin. This morning I pre-washed my face with olive oil. Then used my regular mild cleanser. I let the oil sit a few minutes though. My skin is glowing. That is something I never experience, glowing skin.
That's an interesting idea. I have dry skin in winter as well and I find that a few drops of Rose Hip oil massaged into the skin at night before moisturiser gives me a wonderful glow as well as deeply hydrating the skin. It has saved the areas around my nose which get very red and flakey with repeated use of tissues when I have the sniffles.
I just tried the olive oil pre-wash tip. I normally am very oily, but the second the temperatures dropped this year, my face turned into something that resembles a parched wasteland. I haven't had any luck with the plethora of moisturizers that I have tried. The olive oil, however, seems to have made a difference. My skin feels very smooth and the wrinkles and lines from the dryness have improved. Thank you very much for the awesome tip!
You should try Josie Maran Argan Oil...that stuff is amazing!!! I haven't had one little dry patch since using it. And I always had dry flakey skin around my nose (because of acne treatments drying out my skin.) You can also use the olive oil and some brown sugar and make a cheap hand scrub for winter! Just rinse hands under water and the sugar rinses off but the oil stays on and feels SO good!! :-)
Buffing concealer over uneven skin with a blending brush rather than a traditional concealer brush! I learned this at my MAC counter and I swear by it. <3
Best tip for flawless skin is drinking those 8 glasses of water a day. It may not solve every skin problem but it does make a difference!
well, get a great skin care products .. ((i use lush) get a wonderful spot treatment (grease lightning - bio oil) eat healthy food - don't stress yourself .. i tried everything.. that method was the only one that acually worked!!
Primer always and a gd medium tp full coverage used building up for perfect coverage for ur preference.
I always keep a little bit of color on my lips. Naked lips often look fine in the mirror, but when I see pictures of myself I feel like I look washed out! Same goes for bronzer, I try not to skip that since I'm super pale, and flash often makes me look unnaturally pale!
Heh, that is funny, because I do just the opposite^^ I am NC15 and when I know pictures will be taken, I use extra strong colors to set off my pale skin, like a strong Blitz&glitz eyeliner on my upper lash line or strong lipcolor - Cockney if I dare (no matter if it is lustre or not, it gives me a ton of color with just one swipe) or Lustering if I do not. I never use bronzer, and with these colors only very little blush (the flash will erase the color). But as you said, some color on the lip (I like Angel) is a must, just like perfect skin with good undereye coverage and some nice highlighter. If I do it right, I look all porcelain beauty.
Using a damp sponge to apply foundation! You get enough coverage to make your skin look flawless but it won't look caky.
I have been using a damp Sonia Kashuk "peep" (aka the Beauty Blender dupe) and I don't think I could go back to using a brush for foundation again. I "bounce" my foundation on and it goes on so smoothly and streak-free without disturbing any concealer I already put on. I also use a slightly darker foundation shade under my cheekbones and on my temples. It looks more natural and my face looks more sculpted and flawless.
Hi Christine, my best tip is: kanebo enzyme peeling if needed, kanebo hydrachange mask overnight used as night cream, especially dry areas like eyes lipps etc.. Next morning plump up with Kanebo Moisture Polish essence or Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum, than follow with a cream/makeup ....and eye cream of course :-). For a very polished look i use Chanel le Blanc under Foundation or Kaneb Brightening Makeup Base (yes my skin loves Kanebo, especially the makeup line :-) ). Be well, Nina K.
Beauty powder/ lightweight powder over your foundation. I..don't know! It just works wonders in finishing it off to make my face look seamless!
I really love Revlon's PhotoReady foundation, though some claim that it is too sparkly. I also buff translucent powder only on the t-zone and mist with with water. I also use plenty of matte bronzer so I don't look one-dimensional. It's also really important that you match foundation to your neck because the flash will accentuate the difference.
