My favorite look this week was… Giorgio Armani #24 Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow with Burberry Gold Trench above the crease, Urban Decay Baked Eyeliner on the lower water and lash lines.

That look is SO gorgeous, Christine.  Any chance you can do a detailed explanation (as you do in the “Looks” section)?  Maybe even a live youtube tutorial (since I’m not the only one who misses those and would love to see you bring them back).  It’s that look that made me want the Golden Savannah palette (though having now read your review, I realized I’ve got at least one, and sometimes 2 or 3, dupes of all the colours, though I will probably still break down and buy it).I have been going the easy route and using Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze for the last few days of this week, with black liner (GOSH Black Ink or Ink Black – I can never remember).  I’ve been using Matchmaster foundation applied with a Beauty Blender and, in the interest of making a dent in the stupid thing, I took out Dame Blush (in a trio from Tartan Tales – it is NOT like the regular Dame blush) and scraped the surface with my fingernail AGAIN to loosen some blush so I could get it to show up.  Laugh a Lot (LE) on my lips.

  2. I love that lid shade on you! Such a pretty color! My favorite look this week was the Sea Siren look I did.http://www.phyrra.net/2012/07/sea-siren-tutorial.htmlI used Too Faced Shadow Insurance Candlelight for the primer. I applied NARS Bombshell on the lid. I used Glamour Doll Eyes Calypso in the crease, with Fyrinnae Bitey Tyrannosaur in the upper crease. I highlighted with BftE Glistening. I drew bold lines under my eyes with Too Faced 3 Way Liner. I also did crazy bright lips by lining and filling in my lips with Illamasqua medium pencil in Debonair, then layering Evil shades gloss in Dragon Wing on top. I added Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure to the center of my lips and layered some Venomous Cosmetics gloss in Venom on top (it’s a golden green shade). For my skin I used Illamasqua Skin Base in 1, with NARS Multiple in Luxor on the cheekbones. I then went back and dusted tarte illuminator in Champagne all over the face because I was trying to sort of get my skin to look like a pearl. It was a really fun fantasy style look :)

    • Phyrra I caught your post and it really was fantastic!

Phyrra  Nice job! Such a mermaid look…. wow! I’m so impressed by how you did your eyes and how the distinct levels are so pristine and clearly defined. And the intensified Calypso is lovely. Do you find it helps to work from the top down or outer level inwards? And is it the Luxor which is giving you that pearly highlight shine or the Super Orgasm on the apples of your cheek? If its the Luxor, it shows up much better on you than on me.

      • Kafka So for the highlight shine, I did apply Luxor in a C shape on my cheekbones around to the temple. After that, I applied tarte provocateur illuminating powder in Champagne on top, on my chin, nose, forehead, very lightly. So I think that’s the glow you’re seeing. The Tranquil blush is a multi-dimensional blush, it’s a beige-coral with copper, so that helped add depth, too.

        • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

Phyrra  Thank you. I’m definitely going to check out the Tarte illuminating powder next time I’m in Sephora. It really did help create that pearlescent look to go with the mermaid colours. And you reminded me that I really need to order that Fyrinnae Epoxy too. So impressed by the magic you constantly create with that.

  4. That’s a great look indeed, I like it a lot! My favorite look of the week is the one I’m wearing today. I did a look with a new Yves Rocher eyeshadow, in “vert de gris” which is a kind of dirty grayisch green.

  5. Dominique33

It’s been too hot here ( 35 ° celsius ) so I just wore a single eyeshadow from Yves Rocher and nothing else . Ratin Jot on my feet ( I love both the colour and formula ), nothing at all on the finger nails.

  6. Amelie

I love this makeup! It’s so classy and beautiful. I’ll try to inspire me from this with what I have. I don’t leave comments often so I want to tell you how amazing is your blog. Love from France ;).

  7. I love the two-toned look. It really brings out the green in your eyes!

  8. corallista

The Giorgio Armani eye shadow is lovely! Its how I wanted MAC Pro long wear Legendary Black to be when I first saw it but its of course much much understated. Did you apply UD Baked directly on the waterline or did you use a pencil base first?

    • corallista

My favorite look this week was a smokey antique gold eye with MAC PP Genuine treasure as base, L’Oreal Infallible eye shadow endless chocolate to smoke out the kohl and Illamasqua pigment Ore patted on the lid. Cheeks : MAC Melba with contouring using Bourjois bronzer. On lips : MAC Russian red with a touch of gloss. http://corallista.com/2012/07/26/indian-bridal-makeup-tutorial-3-traditional-gold-and-red/

    • corallista I just used the Baked pencil, no shadow :)

      • corallista

Christine (Temptalia) Thanks! I’m not so familiar with the entire UD range as we don’t have UD in India. I was thinking of Half Baked from the Naked Palette when I saw your look!

  9. I love this look, Christine!Late this week, I received my Nars Fall order with the High Society Palette.  I’m so overjoyed with this trio because all the shades are superb.  I found them to be super creamy and easy to blend and highly pigmented too.  I applied them over a base of MAC painterly.  The ‘ugly’ green colour (Thank you Kafka and xamyx *smirk*) exactly matches my ugly eye colour.  The light purple shade applies more muted than it looks in the pan, but all the shades work incredibly and surprisingly well together.  I pair the trio with a purple blush MUFE Lavendar 9 and my really super cool Lavendar lipstick from LimeCrime in Airborne Unicorn.  The trio is perfect with this lippie and that makes me happy.

    • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Amy xamyx

I’m so glad to read the formulation in the NARS trio is smooth; of course, that means I *have* to get it now, LOL (although I’m still afraid of the green shade).

      • xamyx It’s fabulous!  I do not recall ever having a trio I was pleased with and this one came shining through for me.  The green does not apply as dark as it looks in the pan and is a true Khaki green, but it could just be that way on me.  You’ll have to pick it up and if the green scares you too much, just keep it away from immediately around your eye and use it for a hint of drama in the crease or send it to me ;-0) LoL

        • wwendalynne I’ve been obsessing over that trio online and my friend JacyHumphries keeps telling me it’s not worth it. I have no idea why I’m obsessing over it online. ARRGHH, NARS!

        • annedreshfield Hi Anne!  Well, I personally love it and maybe it is just the interesting combo which really grabs me or the green shadow which matches my eye colour perfectly.  In any event, I’m really loving it and I’m finding my palette very creamy and blendable. I have a pretty extensive make-up ‘collection’ and I am familiar with chalky, lousy payoff shadows and in some cases, I put up with it because of the uniqueness of the colour, but I can honestly say, I must have hit the right one because I wasn’t expecting this quality based on reviews. The only colour that seemed to have a possible issue is the pale purple, but I found the texture good and the pigmentation good, but the colour looks far more muted on my skin.  That doesn’t speak to the quality, it just speaks to me neutralizing it out a bit.  I packed the colour more than the other two shades..that’s all.  I really do not want to be an enabler here and then have you disappointed either.  This isn’t limited, and the great thing about NARS..you can usually always find the products on-line from their shop and also on eBay.

        • wwendalynne Absolutely. I was hunting for reviews yesterday and was dismayed by all of the complaints about texture! I remember you saying somewhere else that you’ve enjoyed yours so far. It’s amazing how many people have dinged it, and yet others find that it’s wonderful for them! I haven’t swatched it on my skin yet, so I have no idea whether or not the colors will be true on me, but you’re right — I can always wait, since this isn’t limited edition.

  10. Those shades look wonderful on you- they really bring dimension to your eyes. My favourite look this week was for a night out, but was extremely simple. smudged a little of Mac’s greasepaint stick in Dirty along my lower lid and blended Le Metier de Beaute Corinthian over it. That was basically it on the eyes. I used Mac’s Creamy Bisque as a highlight and UD Perversion on my lower water line. I paired it with Edward Bess’ South of France on my cheeks and YSL Pourpre Carmin on the lips- one of my favourite intense lip shades. You can see pictures of the final result here: http://morelikespace.blogspot.ca/2012/07/making-faces-is-corinthian-stuff-of-myth.html

    • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Mariella Mariella

Kate MacDonald Kate, this is such a coincidence.  I just took Dirty out last night to “play” with it as I hadn’t used it in a while.  Mine had developed a sort of funky smell, sort of like actual grease paint (I noticed this on a Greengrease one in the CCO a while back and passed on it for that reason).  It had also gone a bit “flaky” – didn’t apply smoothly.  I rubbed it on the back of my hand and that seemed to help – maybe it removed the “dried out” surface layer or something but I was a bit upset at first as I’ve not used this pencil a whole lot in the years I’ve had it.

      • Mariella I had the same drying problem with one of the ones that I bought. (Can’t figure out why I thought I would use several shades of these before they went off…) I just broke off the tip and re-sharpened it, which wasted product but solved the problem. Like you, I don’t blame the product- it’s a reminder to think about how often I’ll use something before I buy it.

Two looks, both centered around NARS’ Galapagos. The first was a very smoky look which I loved so much that I wore it 3 days in a row and which drew some compliments at the supermarket: as a sticky base, MAC’s potted concealer, then NARS’ Night Star (warm beige with gold sparkles) all over the lid and tear duct, followed by Galapagos for the center part of the lid, Thunderball (a gorgeous dark matte grey with green overtones) in outer 1/3 and the V. Nepal to blend and above the crease. The thing that really *made* the look: UD 24/7 shadow pencil in Clash (glittery turquoise) as liner on the upper and lower lashline. Black mascara. Luxor Multiple under the NARS Sheer Glow foundation in Punjab, and a sheer dusting of Dolce Vita blush. Bourjois lipstick #7 Acajou (warm rose).Second look is what I’m wearing right now now: UD’s shadow pencil in Sin as a base all over the lid, then Galapagos in the inner 1/3, Sin in the middle, Thunderball just in the crease, and then in the outer corners and V I used Sephora collection eyeshadow in Mysterious Forrest (dark forrest green with gold glitter). The Mysterious Forrest really makes it, especially in conjunction with UD’s 24/7 eyeliner in Junkie (shimmery dark green). NARS Himalayas to blend. Black eyeliner, MUFE HD foundation in 127 and then NARS Portofino Multiple, which I think looks like an almost identical dupe for the new L/E Chanel Fleur de Lotus blush. Dior lipstick #883 in coral.

    • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Amy xamyx

I see you’re really digging Galapagos! That’s so funny how we were just talking about it, LOL. I have to check that Sephora Forest Green. Speaking of dark green with glitter, I was just at CVS, and I saw a Revlon polish called Rain Forest that I think you should check out.

      • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

xamyx  I saw that Revlon polish and almost bought it!! LOL. It’s funny how well you know me by now. ♥♥  And speaking of thinking of people, I thought of *you* when I bought NARS’ Iceland. Oh, and I think you’ll like the Sephora colour. Unlike another Sephora glittery eyeshadow I have, I don’t ever experience fall-out with this one. And it would be glorious next to UD’s Loaded or NARS’ Night Porter & Rajasthan.

        • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Amy xamyx

I may actually have that Sephora single in one of the (more recent, which are actually pretty good) Blockbuster palettes, so I would definitely need to check it out in person. I know I do have a dark, glittery green, but I’m just not sure which palette it’s in. I’ve only been using NARS and UD almost exclusively for the past 8-9 months, so I kind of forgot what else I have (other than entirely way too much makeup).

        • xamyx I hear it’s a bug that is going around.. especially here!

    • Kafka I love thunderball!!  It’s so intense and yet it can be mixed with silver or gold to create a beautiful unique shadow.. It looks great with brown, muted lavendar purple.. Thunderball would also look really nice with the two purple shades from the High Society Trio.  Now both you and xamyx NEED the trio.. you do..and you know it!!!

      • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

wwendalynne  Thunderball ROCKS!!  I would never, ever have expected a super dark, intensely pigmented grey to go so well with brown. It’s not a combination I would have thought of in a million years! I plan to try it next with the blued-silver of UD’s Mary Jane, then with NARS’ Melusine, BOTH shades from Paramaribo, and the smoky gold brown from Rajasthan.  The greenish undertones to the grey (which almost look blue-ish green grey at times) is so incredibly versatile, I can’t get over it.  I’ll definitely consider the Trio but, I’ll be honest, it’s pressing because of my absolute obsession with NARS’ Underworld. It’s my #1 most wanted, then UD’s Strip, and lastly NARS’ Etrusque. Check out Underworld (which has a 4.7 out of 5 rating at Makeupalley) and tell me this isn’t to die for: http://img.makeupalley.com/7/3/5/6/1029726.JPG    (Well, to die for if you share my grey obsession. LOL!)

wwendalynne  OT, first, does anyone know how to fix the font in the new Livefyre system? Mine looks so massive, it embarasses me. It makes my already wordy posts look ten times longer! The little pencil icon doesn’t bring up any font size options.Thunderball ROCKS!! I would never, ever have expected a super dark, intensely pigmented grey to go so well with brown. It’s not a combination I would have thought of in a million years! I plan to try it next with the blued-silver of UD’s Mary Jane, then with both shades from NARS’ Melusine, both shades from Paramaribo, and the smoky gold taupe from Rajasthan. The greenish undertones to the grey (which almost look blue-ish green grey at times) is so incredibly versatile, I can’t get over it.I’ll definitely consider the Trio but, I’ll be honest, it’s pressing because of my absolute obsession with NARS’ Underworld. • Kafka It’s nothing on your end – it’s on Shaun’s to-do list to look into it :)

        • Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Kafka Kafka

Christine (Temptalia)   Ooops. Sorry, Shaun, for the To-Do Task! ;)   But I *am* relieved there will be a sizing option. One must hide one’s verboseness by whatever tricks necessary! LOL.

        • Kafka Thunderball looks like a very very dark greenish blue to me.  I think I must be colour blind because I just don’t read grey off it at all.  This happens to me with colour descriptions all the time.  I have the same issue with MAC Knight Divine..which again is not grey to me.  Anyhow, my eye issues are irrelevant..it’s a rocking colour!!!  And yes, mid brown looks amazing with it.. think Nars Sophia or whatchamacallit.. dammit..  Biarritz :)    BTW:  underworld is a fabulous grey!!!

Christine – perhaps this isn’t the right place to put this question, or perhaps you’ve already answered it before and I just couldn’t find it, but here it is: would you be willing to do a little blog write up on just how you DO take a photo? You made a quick comment about this one, but it really isn’t that bad. It may not be quite to your standards, but it’s better than what I’ve done.  I ask because recently I tried to enter an online contest where you had to send in a picture of a makeup ‘look’ or just a ‘made up’ eye.  I tried, my husband tried, hell even my 20 yr old son tried to just take a pic of my eye like you have above.  For the life of me, we could NOT do it.  I have a pretty decent HD digital camera and my son has a semi professional digital camera.  I figure it must be user error not machine error.  Do you have an article in archives (I really thought I remembered something) or would you be willing to give some pointers on how to take some good facial photos?  I’m sure it would be beneficial for those just wanting to post to FB.  Thanks so much.  I know your time is valuable, and limited, so anything at all would be appreciated.  Thanks a million!   The World’s Worst Photographer

    • Ann Clothier Hi Ann! It’s mostly lighting that’s going to make or break a photo.  Generally, the more light, the better. Do you know what wasn’t working for you? Was it too bright, washed out, unclear?  A few things to check:1.) Macro setting if you’re doing anything close-up (often indicated by a flower symbol)2.) Powerful flash can kill a photo, so if you can turn down the power of the flash, that helps, and if not, put a tissue over it, which will automatically soften and diffuse the light.3.) Try taking photos outside or near a window (assuming it’s a sunny day!).4.) White bulbs are better than really yellow bulbs (I’m in the process of converting much of my lighting to daylight bulbs – ~5000K).5.) If you aren’t using flash, make sure you’re using a tripod. You need a LOTTTTT of light to get away with not using a tripod otherwise!

One of my go-to looks this summer has been Armani ETK #23 with UD 24/7 Liquid Liner in Siren.  Sometimes I put a teal in the crease, too, but it’s always been whatever teal is easiest to get my hands on, nothing specific!

  14. Profile wp-user-avatar wp-user-avatar-60 alignnone photo of Veronica Veronica

I love that Armani shade!  *sigh*  I might have to check it out in person, though I think it’ll wind up too warm for me.
Eyes:  Stila Breeze on lid, Stila Moss in outer corner mixed with a touch of UD Hustle to darken it a bit, theBalm’s Matt Ramirez in the crease, and Stila Nectar on brow.  Maybelline Stiletto on lashes.
Face: Sephora tinted moisturizer, Benefit’s Bella Bamba on cheeks, and NARS Albatross on cheeks and highlight points.  (Every time I use this highlighter, I like it even more.  It’s just amazing under good lighting.)
Nothing on the lips since they’re torn up right now. :(

  15. Such a gorgeous look, Christine! Now I want 24!My favorite look this week is the one I did with Dior Golden Khaki when I went to the Golden Jungle launch in Taipei. It’s a simple smokey eye with the two darker shades mixed all over my lids, the darkest in my outer v/crease, and the lightest to highlight my brow bones, inner corners, and center of the lids. If anyone’s interested I’ve got some pictures here!http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/dior-golden-jungle-taipei-launch-swatches-fotd-notd/

Where are all the comments?  It says there are 38 comments but I am only seeing 2.  Is it me or is the site REALLY wonky?

    • Mariella I see all the comments, and I didn’t notice any problems with comments showing up yesterday or this morning (it’s just after 8AM my time).

Christine (Temptalia) They’re all here now, Christine, but this morning, only 2 comments were showing. I tried refreshing, leaving this page, etc. and still only 2 comments.  Weird (I just love technology….NOT)

Christine (Temptalia) and now they’re gone again…..how odd!

  17. My favorite look was a really simple wash of color since it was super hot out and I was just running around — Bobbi Brown’s Bronzed Sugar all over the lid with some smoky grey eyeliner to make my lashes look darker. Simple and made my blue eyes pop!

  18. Rachel

Hi Christine,Are there any dupes for Burberry’s Gold Trench shadow? Thanks!
