Vera Farmiga @ 2010 Academy Awards

I wonder what lipstick she’s wearing!

Hair How-to

Best Supporting Actress nominee Vera Farmiga wore a swirling, ruffled Marchesa gown in a vibrant berry color that was pure red carpet. Her Oscar hair look, created by celebrity stylist Lona Vigi, was soft, romantic and very modern.

The design emphasized soft, wavy texture as well as volume, and used a professional Velecta Paramount Paris X:Q Onyx blow dryer to create its essential structure and shape. Vigi started with wet hair, sprayed on volumizer, and used the high setting of the powerful dryer to quickly dry the hair while sculpting curls using a small round brush. She then pinned each barrel curl in place to build in height, and used the cool setting to lock in the curls.

“This French-made dryer is my new favorite tool,” explained Vigi. “It’s really fast and powerful yet so lightweight, and quiet enough to have a conversation while I’m working. The quality is amazing! Velecta Paramount Paris dryers are made by hand from start to finish by one person, and I love that it’s ergonomic and low-EMF.”

After releasing the curls, Vigi gently finger combed the top of the hair to soften it and create a flowing shape. She then pulled the hair back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, split it in two and wrapped each side in opposite directions to created large, loose and carefree textured bun.
She secured it with both bobby and hair pins, finished with a touch of hairspray and then placed a Fred Leighton diamond pin on top the left side of the bun.

Love it or hate it?

See the dress!

Love the dress color, but the makeup (no flames, please) accentuates the lines around her eyes…I think it’s all of the shimmer e/s….

    • Stephy

I agree! I thought she was like 60 something, but I looked it up and she’s only in her thirties! Woah.

      • Sanna

Oh come on! She looks beautiful, those are happywrinkles and quite normal for a 37 year old woman, and they suit her. WHAT IS WITH THE WRINKLEHATING PEOPLE?!

  3. Caitlin

    i love the color!

  4. Stephy

that dress is wearing her, ugh…and her makeup looks chalky in the close-up photo but it’s prolly just the lighting.

  7. Kim L

The dress is a work of art that needs someone statuesque

  8. Lorna

If I say what I think that dress looks like, it will probably get censored… It’s uh… very… feminine…

  11. Katherine

Looks like something from Estee Lauder!

  12. Evelyn

I really like this dress, it looks more flowy on tv than it seems in the picture. I didn’t realize she was in her 30s either, I thought she was older, maybe it’s the condition of her skin, or not so great foundation.

  13. Wow! That’s a crazy dress but I kind of like it. The color is extraordinary.

  14. Heather

I love the color of the dress, but the style… not so much.

  15. Stacia

I don’t like this dress. It reminds me of a curtain out of the move, “Gone with the Wind”. The color is beautiful though.

  16. I think her makeup goes really well with her dress! I love the lipstick. It reminds me of how MAC Romancin’ lipstick (le from adoring carmine I think) look after I bite off on paper. I don’t really like romancin’ until I bite off. Then it’s gorgeous!

  17. charlieee

not loving the dress, but she looks pretty with the makeup!

  18. Ruth

What the heck was she thinking, disaster.

  19. looks like a fungus on a tree or something…..bleh.

  20. nicci404

She was really good in Up in the Air, and she is beautiful & classy.

  21. Milad

If I were to judge by this picture, I would trash the dress. It just doesn’t do it any justice. But on TV, when you see it moving… WOW. It’s mesmerizing. One of the best, IMO.

  22. No m’am. Just – no.

  23. engel

Love teh color of the dress but that’s it.

  24. condesa

perfect makeup stunning dress…. very very important but she is well in it.

  25. AHHHH. She should have said NO to that dress, lol. But she’s gorgeous anyway! :D

  26. Probably should have stayed clear of the sparkles… it brought out her wrinkles even more.
