Valentine’s Day Makeup – Get the Perfect Pout, Part 2

Posted in: Seasonal Features

Is the red lip not a classic choice for Valentine’s Day? I mean, the day is themed with pink and red, so it seems only fitting, right? This post is full of some of my favorite MAC red glosses/lipsticks that I thought I’d share with you! Each product is worn alone, when typically I would wear a lipstick and a gloss together (I rarely wear either by itself!). Unfortunately, several of these are limited edition, which means you may be updating your wish list over at MakeUpAlley soon! I love Check, Please lipglass for its really, really deep blood red color and super glossy finish. Perpetuate prolongwear is my choice for a kiss-proof red (and while it may not be make-out proof, it gets through without too much damage), and it is also a very nice deep red that isn’t too over the top or bright.

I hope this post shows how versatile reds can be (and these are just some of the ones that MAC offers), and even if you haven’t found your shade yet, keep looking and you’re bound to find one that suits you well!

Lip swatches include: Check, Please lipglass (pictured above; LE from Nordstrom 1+ year ago); Red Romp lipglass (Antiquitease); Witty lipglass (Stylistics); Classic Dame mattene (Mattenes); Stylistics lipstick (Stylistics), Rockocco lipstick (Rockocco); Russian Red lipstick (permanent!); and Perpetuate prolongwear (not sure of status, check your store). Thanks, Athina :) Back in my old apartment with fabulous lighting for makeup, ha! The blush was Margin.

I have tried New York Apple – great color! I think I swapped it away since it is close to a few others that I have.

It is gorgeous! Very glam and just… RED!

    Friday, January 25, 2008

Very beautiful! It really suits you to accent the lips and leave the eyes almost bare.
I wish I would have the courage to wear red, I´m so pale, a bold color on me seems so heavy and overdone. Do you have a recommendation for my skintype? (I wear MAC NC15, light blonde hair, blue eyes)

    • Christine

      Friday, January 25, 2008

Thanks, Nell! I don’t usually have the courage to go red myself. I like Viva Glam I because it’s matte and it’s a darker red. It’s not super bright, but yet it’s still a red. New York Apple is a great raspberryish red, too, which is deep and lovely, but not over the top.

omg, i love the first one (Check, Please) but LE :(
    umm are there any dupes???

    • Christine

      Friday, January 25, 2008

Hey Moon! Russian Red lipglass is sort of close, because it has a very creamy finish and of its brightness. If you wore say, Viva Glam I, with it, then I think you’d definitely hit the nail on the head.

Ohhh how gorgeous! Here I am, wishing I had Check, Please now :) Perpetuate too, very pretty. Thanks for the swatches!

    • Christine

      Friday, January 25, 2008

      Thanks, Arielle!

You might be able to dupe Check, Please with: Russian Red lipglass, because it has a very creamy finish and of its brightness. If you wore say, Viva Glam I, with it, then I think you’d definitely hit the nail on the head.

    You look amazing Christine!!! :)
I really want Perpetuate Prolongwear now!
Do you think it’ll suit cool toned skin as it looks like you have warm skin and it suits your perfectly

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Thanks, Bec! I think it will work on cooler skin, too :)

I still can’t get over how nice Viva Glam I looks on you. What liner did you use? By the way, I think you are an amazingly talented artist because you really understand what works. The fact that you show swatches of colors that are old and new is a great idea for those that just want to work with what they already have or those that may want to try something new. Either way its brilliant.

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Thanks, Liliana! I actually use Viva Glam I as a liner – I use a lip brush to line my lips and then fill them in. Red Enriched cremestick liner is a good choice, too, though.

I love the red-lip look you are wearing. Its so outstanding but not too BOLD, totally wearable to work !

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Thanks, Taj! I always feel like red is bold, no matter what, when I wear it!

  18. Tonee

    Friday, January 25, 2008

    Hi Christine,

This is definitely my kind of lipstick :) I don’t have Check, Please because I am not a gloss addict do use Russian Red on top of matte red lipstick to add a sheen. I sure wish you had a chance to try out Rocker (gone but not forgotten!) because it is my favorite MAC red lipstick of all time.

You do look fab in the last photo – Perpetuate is a favorite of mine as well.

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Hey Tonee! How’s your weekend going? Russian Red lipglass is nice, but I just can’t pull it off. It’s too red for me. Maybe I can pick up Rocker from a swap sometime :)

      Thanks! Perpetuate needs more love!

you should let your hair down more! it look great on you. haha i’m the kind of girl who is afraid of red lipstick or glosses but you definitely rock the colour.

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

I try to :) I’m not totally fearless when it comes to red either!

      Thanks!

hey! One thing I always have in my mind is about the color of the blush with diffrent red colors..do you have any idea?(with simple smokey eyes)thank you!

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Hey Beret! Like with simple smoky eyes, I go for a very light dusting of blusher. I’ll usualy use Margin or Springsheen lightly. Keep cheeks pretty light, and you really want to concentrate on giving them “glow” without too much color.

    • Christine

      Sunday, January 27, 2008

Aww, thank you, Zsofi :) My hair is about as long as it’ll probably ever be (though I promised my mom to grow it out if I was pregnant and chop it off so she could make a wig, LOL), just because it is SO thick (even with thinning it out occasionally) that it’s too heavy. I’m very lucky, I’ve never had split ends!

        pregnancy promotes hair growth?

          Monday, January 28, 2008

I can’t remember if it does, but I figured if I was ever pregnant, I’d be getting fat and moody, why not grow the hair out!
