Urban Decay Naked Palette
Ready to Get Naked?
Urban Decay Naked Palette ($44.00) is new-for-fall and contains twelve shades–eight are incredibly neutral, but four pack a little–much welcome–color punch. There are six permanent and existing shades, one repromoted shade, and five new shades.
The palette includes: Virgin (satin chamois), Sin (champagne), Naked (matte buff nude), Sidecar (cocoa with golden sparkle sheen), Buck (matte nutmeg), Half Baked (subtle, lustrous bronze), Smog (deep coppery bronze), Darkhorse (bronze patina), Toasted (rich copper), Hustle (plum brown satin), Creep (onyx with gold sparkle), Gunmetal (gunmetal gray with silver glitter). The final piece is a double-ended 24/7 Liner with Zero (black) on one side and Whiskey (creamy rich brown) on the other.
- Virgin is a pale, shimmered nude beige. It’s very, very light, but it’s such a beautiful neutral. It’s a little frosty for a highlighter, particularly on darker skin tones, but it would make for a great all-over wash or pop of light on the inner tear duct.
- Sin is a champagne with a touch of pink and a frostier finish. This shade is permanently available.
- Naked is a matte medium beige-brown. It has a very soft, smooth texture–not at all powdery or chalky.
- Sidecar is a shimmered, medium bronze brown with almost a red undertone. This shade was in the first edition of the Book of Shadows. (I didn’t see it on Urban Decay’s website at all.)
- Buck is a matte darkened beige-brown. It’s really a darker version of Naked. It has the same silky smooth texture and rich color pay off of Naked, too.
- Half Baked is a coppery bronze with a frost-metallic finish. This shade is permanently available.
- Smog is a medium dark bronze with a gilded bronze sheen. This shade is permanently available.
- Darkhorse is a darkened deep chocolate brown with flecks of bronze.
- Toasted is a medium dark pinky brown with a shimmery finish. This shade is permanently available.
- Hustle is a dark plummy chocolate brown with a soft shimmer finish.
- Creep is a darkened blue-black base with silver and teal shimmer. Urban Decay said “onyx with gold glitter” but I really didn’t see the gold.
- Gunmetal is a blue-gray metallic that really must be seen to be appreciated. It almost feels like a duochrome, because it flashes blue but it’s dark and smoldering. This shade is permanently available.
The palette also contains a double-ended eyeliner, and Zero is your basic creamy black with a near-matte finish–if you’re an Urban Decay palette collector, you probably have enough Zero eyeliners to get you through the next twenty years. However, it also contains Whiskey, which is a brand new shade of creamy chocolate brown with red undertones. It’s very similar to Bourbon, but it seems a little lighter and doesn’t have the shimmer.
It’s packaged in a velvety chocolate brown exterior, which makes it look sleek and sophisticated–it’s probably one of the classier products I’ve seen come from the brand, actually. It feels very luxe and not quite Urban Decay–but I think it’s a good thing, and it’s nice to see. This is also an amazing value palette. The palette contains 12 x 0.05 oz. eyeshadows, plus 2 x 0.02 oz. liners and a miniature-sized Primer Potion of 0.13 fl. oz. (I actually originally thought it came sans UDPP, because I just received the palette… but the back of it says you do get it, so it probably tags along in a plastic package, but not included in the actual palette case.) The real coup here is the twelve full-size eyeshadows–yes, that’s right–a $17 full-size eyeshadow from Urban Decay contains 0.05 oz. of product, which is exactly what we have here–a value of $204.
I think this is one of Urban Decay’s best palettes to date, actually. It combines incomparable value for the price tag, but the high quality of their eyeshadows really comes through, too. There are no glittery, fussy shades here (and I can’t tell you how happy I am to NOT see Midnight Cowboy Rides Again!). Every shade is soft, smooth, and richly pigmented–even the mattes. For those with a lot of palettes, it may feel a bit redundant, as there are seven shades in it that we’ve seen again–but still five we haven’t. Not that I’m getting through an eyeshadow pan any time soon, but at least you can feel at ease if you fall in love with one of those seven.

RECOMMENDATION: If you’re an eyeshadow fiend and love yourself some shimmery finishes, Urban Decay’s new Naked palette won’t disappoint. It even includes two matte shades–something I’ve remarked on for the lack thereof in previous palettes–and a good mix of neutrals, smoldering neutrals, and darker, smokier colors. There is nothing about this palette that’s a miss.
AVAILABILITY: June 29th @ Urban Decay; around August 1st @ Sephora, ULTA, Macy’s, Beauty.com

PLEASE a dupe for NAKED eyeshadow? I absolutely love this shadow but is almost finished and I can't buy all the palette another time... Can u hel me???
I'm trying to decide between ordering Palette 1 and 2. I love how for palette 2 you mentioned how those compare to MAC shades. Any way you could do the same for this one? I want to make sure I'm not doubling up on colors and getting the most for my money. Thanks!
Was whiskey and zero in the first batch of palettes because I only got what was on the UD website which was the brush and travel size primer. I was looking forward to whiskey.
Hi! I am sorry if this question was asked before, but could you recommend a good dupe for the Virgin color? I just bought Naked 2 and lost Naked 1 while traveling but did love it for the tear duct! Please let me know! Thanks so much!! Maryann
Ok I wasn't always one for neutrals but I fell in love with this palette. I kept stealing it from a friend of mine and finally decided I needed to just buy my own LOL. I guess it used to come with that Whiskey liner but now it seems to come with the UD eyeshadow primer and the good karma eyeshadow brush (also good for me since I love that brush and needed more primer. Tax refund checks are both good and evil and this would officially be my first big UD purchase, all my other palettes are MAC. :)
Hi Christine, could you recommend a dupe for Virgin? I REALLY like how it makes me look more awake but it doesn't look obviously frosty/eyeshadow-y (lol hope that makes sense)
Hmm... I didn't get eyeliners, I got a brush instead when I got it at ulta. I prefer the oil slick versus creep, but it works to darken any of the shades. I always get great compliments from the business women I serve because it works well during the day, it's not dramatic, but you can definitely push it to be so. I came on your site to see the colors in the alic palette I didn't get to snatch because in two days ulta ran out! But I'm definitely bookmarking you.
I think I love every shade in this palette. Neutrals are what I need for my everyday work look. *-* Thanks for the fab review! ^^
I just got this one now it was always sold out here in Ireland but they had the 15th anniversary one now too, so that's next on my review list. I have to say I love the colours. They are so wearable, with my other UD palettes I tend to use the same ones over again. Not with this one! Love it!
I just brought this palette the other day :) But strange enough it came with a shadow brush since of an eueliner.
Oh my lord, I just bought this today after fawning over it for months. I am truly amazed. The colors are extremely pigmented and they all go perfectly together. There are only 2 colors that were 5% short of perfect and they were Naked, because it's almost invisible on my skin, and Creep, because it's not as true black as I'd like it to be. Otherwise, extremely customer friendly and extremely long lasting. I even took a bath with these shadows and smudged them under the water! When I got out, my eyes looked as fab as they did before.
Ok, so I looked again online and I DID find "sin" but still cannot find "naked" I'm sorry I didn't look thoroughly enough before I posted earlier but I'd still love to find the "naked" color. Thanks again!
I was reading your post about some of the colors being in the permanent line, but I can't seem to find the colors "naked" and "sin" on Urban Decay's website. I found colors like "gunmetal" and "toasted" but not the two I listed before. I have this palette and I LOVE it but I am quickly running out of my favorite colors in the bunch and would love to know where I can replace/refill them. Thanks!
Yes, some are permanent, but not all. Sin is on the website under eyeshadow. Naked is not a permanent shade! HTH!
What do you think of it now that it has a brush instead of the double ended 24/7 eyeliner? Please reply!
Urban Decay is one of the best and one of my favourite make up brands. My boyfriend has bought me this naked palette for my birthday and i can't wait to use it!!!. The colours are great and that's why I chose it as browns and neutrals are amazingly beautiful to wear everyday. That's another palette added to my urban decay collection!
I have this palette for a while but every time I see it, I fall in lover all over again. I wanted it so much that I was willing to pay 60€, which is 88$. It's twice as much, but it was totally worth it <3
i think this is an amazing products the colours are all very natural and easy to apply. i am only 14 and found good use of it even though i am not a big eyeshadow wearer but the subtle shades make this palette completely wearable on a day to day basis i would recommend this palette to anybody over the age of around 13 I would say. i was a little dubious as to how much i would wear this but find myself turning toward it more and more often it is a GREAT eyeshadow palette for all year round...
Hi. I'm not sure if I should post this here, but Sephora has the Naked Palette in stock as of April 23 at 12:18 pm PDT. I just ordered mine (finally!). Happy shopping!
I suppose that I should clarify, because when I mentioned the return of the Naked palette to Sephora, one of my American friends didn't see the importance because the palette had been available to order from the UD site for a while. For your Canadian readers who cannot order from the UD website, however, the Sephora website is our only option for obtaining the Naked Palette domestically. Thanks.
Christine- If you have all the BOS, do you think this is still a must have palette? The colors are beautiful but I don't know if it's a must...even though I feel the NEED to collect all their books of shadows
How does this palette compare to the Estee lauder new Wild Violet palette? Both have golds, browns and a plum shade.
I am a medium dark complexion and I absolutely LOVE how these colors show and blend so smoothly together. To date this is thee best palette I own.
Finally, got the email today and went ahead and picked me up one. I believe the UD website is still selling them with the double sided eyeliner. Can't wait to get it.
Yeah I got the email too... I can't decide if I should splurge on eBay and get one with the eyeliners or wait and get the ones with the brush. Any thoughts? I do have another zero eyeliner and a brown eyeliner (by KATE, kanebo)... can't decide what I need more!!!!! Any tips would help, Thanks in advance!
DID YOU HEAR THAT THE NAKED PALETTE IS NOW $48 AND IT COMES WITH A BRUSH NOT A DUO ENDED 24/7 GLIDE ON EYE PENCIL?!!!!
I ordered mine last Tuesday January fourth and I have not yet received an email that it has shipped even though it was only supposed to be 1to 2 days. Does this mean i won't get one even though I ordered it?? :(
Oh gosh, this palette was available for a few hours today on Sephora.com. But it's out of stock again. When will it be available? I really hope that will be soon...
Believe it or not, I just received mine from UD. UD has a limited supply of this palette and I was able to get in on one. I can't wait to try these gorgeous colors.
