Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Swatches, Photos, Reviews

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette ($50.00 for 0.71 oz.) contains twelve eyeshadows: Blackout (blackest black with matte finish), Booty Call Shimmery cork), Busted (deep brown with shimmery finish), Chopper (copper shimmer with silver micro glitter), Foxy (cream bisque with matte finish), Half Baked (golden bronze with shimmery finish), Pistol (light greyish brown with shimmery finish), Snake Bite (dark bronze shimmer with metallic base), Suspect (pale golden beige with shimmery finish), Tease (creamy pale brown with matte finish), Verve (oyster with shimmery finish), YDK (cool bronze shimmer with metallic base), and Lip Junkie Naked (sheer shimmery pinky neutral) and Good Karma Shadow/Crease Brush. The brush is good; it’s like Urban Decay’s full-sized brushes–same size, feel, density, and softness.

  • Foxy is a pale yellowed beige with a matte finish. It’s on the sheer side and a bit powdery. On my forearm (around NC20), it’s almost invisible. It could work for highlighting the brow on light to medium complexions. It’s similar to Bare Escentuals Daydream, Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone, and MAC Brule.
  • Half Baked is a coppery brown with a golden shimmer-sheen. It’s very frosty but has good color payoff and a smooth texture. It’s part of the permanent range and is also in the Naked 1 palette. This shade is similar to a whole slew of others: theBalm Manic Maribel, Bare Escentuals Louder, MAC Amber Lights, theBalm Meep Meep, and Inglot #405 (and there are probably more).
  • Booty Call is a peach-tinted white-beige with a frosted finish. It’s new for this palette. It’s just a little peach compared to Urban Decay Virgin. It’s also similar to shades like MAC Vanilla, MAC Baby It’s Cold, Urban Decay Skimp, Inglot #353, and MAC Brule.
  • Chopper is a medium orange-red toned rown with coppery flecks of shimmer. This shade is permanent. It has good color payoff, but the sparkle is prone to fall out. It’s similar to shades like Wet ‘n’ Wild Dancing in the Clouds, Dolce & Gabbana Cocoa, and Make Up For Ever #12 (sheered out). Sidecar from Naked 1 is browner, not as orange.
  • Tease is dirty mauve-brown with a matte finish. It’s an interesting shade, but the color payoff is mediocre and texture is very dry and stiff. You really have to jab at it with the bristles of your brush to loosen enough product in order to apply it. It’s similar to MAC Quarry, which is truer-to-pan color than Tease, actually, plus it has more pigmentation. It doesn’t compare favorably to either Sin or Toasted (the two closest shades from Naked 1), partially because the difference in payoff and finish is too dramatic.
  • Snakebite is dark bronze with a dirty golden shimmer-sheen. It has a really lovely dense, buttery texture with excellent color payoff. It is deeper than MAC Tempting but warmer than Inglot #409. It looks similar to Smog, which is warmer, but not so much Darkhorse, which is more of a blackened brown; however, mix the two together, and you pretty much get Snakebite–both Smog and Darkhorse are in Naked 1 (and even right next to each other!).
  • Suspect is a soft champagne-bronze with a frosted, metallic sheen. It has good color payoff but felt a touch powdery. theBalm Schitzo is more golden and smoother. Sidecar (from Naked 1) is just pinker.
  • Pistol is a dirty gray-brown with a frosted finish. I’m hesitant to call it a taupe, because it has a lot of brown in it. The payoff is good, and the texture is soft and smooth. It’s similar to theBalm selfish and NARS Bali (but matte). It doesn’t compare to any shades from Naked 1.
  • Verve is a pale beige-gray with a pink tinge. This was in the Rollergirl palette. It doesn’t have a dupe or similar shade in the Naked 1 palette. NARS Grand Palais is several shades darker, while Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone is more golden and gray (less pink). Urban Decay Ruthless is more beige.
  • YDK is a warm, coppery red-toned medium brown with a frosted finish. The color payoff is good with a smooth texture. Inglot #421 is deeper and more intense. Urban Decay Shag has more copper. Urban Decay Wreckage is a little less warm. MAC Buckwheat is a bit darker. It is very similar to Sidecar and just a little less warm compared to Toasted from Naked 1.
  • Busted is a burgundy-tinted, deep brown with warm, golden undertones. It has a soft, frosted finish. The color payoff was good and the texture smooth, though a little less dense than other shades. It’s almost the same as Hustle from Naked 1. MAC Midnight Flurry is a bit more burgundy. theBalm Mahna Mahna is more intense, more red-toned. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone is darker, as is MAC Smut.
  • Blackout is a really intense, deep dark black with a matte finish. It has really great payoff and goes on very black. It doesn’t have a comparable shade in Naked 1. Make Up For Ever #4 and Sugarpill Bulletproof are also very deep dark blacks with matte finishes.
  • Naked is a sheer neutral pink with white micro-shimmer. The gloss is non-sticky and mint-scented.

Naked 2 is a phenomenal value ($204 worth of eyeshadow, $24 worth of brush, $6 worth of lipgloss–$234 total), just like Naked 1, but I don’t think you need both. There are too many similar shades to merit both (seriously, why even include Half Baked again?). Like the original palette, this is a warm-toned neutral outlay of shades. I’m really not sure why they went with warmer shades (over neutral or cool) when Naked 1 encompassed mostly warm-toned shades already. I know that several readers with cooler complexions felt like Naked 1 wasn’t as flattering on them.

It’s packaged in a metal tin that closes shut really well, but it is a bit heavier than Naked 1; it’s the same size in terms of length and width. I’ve traveled with the Naked 1 palette many, many times, and I haven’t had any issues with it opening, ripping, looking worn, etc. I expect that the packaging of Naked 2 will appeal to others, though, as it feels more secure and hefty. If you’re less inclined to have a dual-ended brush, an Urban Decay 24/7 Liner will fit in the slot as well.

The color payoff of Tease is really disappointing; it’s dry, stiff, and applies unevenly. It takes a lot of packing and blending to make it work, which is a real shame given that mattes in Urban Decay palettes can be hard to come by! Foxy is also on the sheerer side but not terribly so, but it has some powderiness to it. Chopper has that micro-glitter texture Urban Decay loves but is prone to fall out.

Half-Baked is a repeat, Bootycall is just warmer than Virgin, Snakebite is similar to Smog (and exactly the same as Darkhorse + Smog together), Suspect is just a touch less warm than Sidecar, YDK is quite close to both Sidecar and Toasted, and Busted is almost the same as Hustle. The shades that didn’t have comparable shades already in Naked 1 were Foxy, Chopper, Tease, Pistol, Verve, and Blackout; that’s five of twelve.

I don’t know how this really measures up to Urban Decay’s “12 Taupe + Greige Neutrals” remark on the product page, because I don’t really see those shades well represented in this palette. The quality, overall, is good; I don’t think it’s as good across the board as the first palette, but for $50 and twelve full-sized eyeshadows, it’s certainly worth taking a look at. I just don’t think it lives up to the hype here, and again, if you have Naked 1, Naked 2 isn’t much of a leap.

I will have comparison swatches in a separate post.

The Glossover

Naked 2

A-

If you have Naked 1, I don't think you need to have Naked 2. Naked 2 is a solid palette, but it is a lot like Naked 1, and both palettes are permanent, so it's really a matter of what colors you prefer and how often you wear neutrals. The palette would have benefited from making it more complimentary to Naked 1 rather than being so comparable, perhaps with a mix of cooler tones and less shimmery finishes.

Whats on your cheeks? Its absolutely fab!!!!

Naked2: its a skip for me!

  2. Mia

Thanks for the review and the comparison.
Which of the two palettes would you say has the cooler colors? TIA

First thought…NOOOOO they put that filigree top on the baby glosses now, too. I have a full size lip junkie in a zippered pocket in my purse and the filigree bit has broken.

I really wish UD hadn’t done another Naked palette, I’d have love to see them do color families. Personally, I’d probably buy an UD BLUE and GREEN and PINK and…etc, palette, but even if they’d done a cool color and a warm color palette, I’d be happier than this. I might eventually pick it up if it remains permanent, there’s at least two shades in there I’ve been wanting, but I’m not terribly excited by it.

  4. malia

Ugh I still have an extra Naked 1 new in the box since last times ordering frenzy, but something about this palette is calling me… great review btw, hopefully I wont even get a chance to order it lol!

  5. Hend

I will probably buy it for the shade Pistol
and the brush which I’m in love with,
    because its multi-tasking and portable

I’m glad to read an honest review since this is the latest craze and it’s already sold out on Urban Decay.com. As a UD fan I’m torn on getting this because I have 3 of the shades in here and I have cool/neutral skin and this seems like a medium for warm and neutral. I loved that tease color at first sight then you mentioned it was difficult. I appreciate your photos and swatches. This is something I’ll wait for since I’d like to see it in person.

Is that some tiny glitter on Blackout? hope not!
anyway, I think its great to have a true black among all these neutrals!
I think I prefer Naked 2 because in general it seems a bit less shimmery… maybe that’s just me, but I swear I see less shimmer! lol

Christine, thanks again for your amazing work!

    HI Christine :)

    I love your reviews!

I have neutral skin tone and even though I LOVE UD Naked 1, I may like part 2 more :) I think the first palette is a bit… too warm (?) for my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I really love it and use it almost everyday, but I am blonde, with light brown eyes and light in-between-cool-and-warm skin-tone, so do you think this may look better?

  9. Avatar of Sass Sass

The only color I wish my Naked palette had was a black, but I will not be purchasing Naked2 just for that. For travel I don’t mind carrying a single black eyeshadow along with my Naked Palette. This is a pass for me. I love the original Naked palette even more I see after seeing Naked2. I could change my mind in the future since it’s permanent. Never know.

  10. Makeup fan

Blah I’m not really a neautral kinda girl. I own the Smashbox softbox palette and I thought the colors were nice because there were some mix of pinks and peach. I don’t own Naked 1 and I’m currently debating between both. I felt Naked 1 was too dark or my skin. I’m pretty fair BUT the area around my eyes are dark so any dark brown eye shadow would just make it look darker. D: And any cooler toned e/s would look muddy or grey. *sigh* The only colors I’m interested in in Naked 2 are Chopper, YDK and Busted. Maybe someday when I hit pan on some e/s on my softbox palette then I’ll consider buying another neautral palette.

I think I’ll just stick to bright colors. PLEASE UD, make a palette with colors but easily portable like these Naked palettes. Please please please!

Oh and I’m pretty sure we’ll be seeing more of the ‘exclusive’ shades from the 15th anniversary set popping up in future collections.

  11. MORENA

wow, i actually like it. I didn’t even buy #1 because I’m not really a big fan of neutrals but i really like the #2 and me consider buying. Noticed they increased the price for the 2 too.

  12. Aysha

    Hi Christine,
First of all thank you for uploading your review and swatches so quickly! Also since I dont own the Naked palette , which would you recommend between the Naked2 and the Balm Nude ‘tude palettes?
    Thanks!

  13. Carlijn

Though I agree the palettes kind of seem the same, I think there’s enough of a difference for me to like the second one way better than the first one. I find the cooler and matte shades in this one so pretty. Plus a good duel ended brush is really a huge plus for me.

  14. Samantha

I honestly didn’t know that there was a Naked 2 palette coming out until I saw this review.

  15. ak

It looks the same but only with a mini lip gloss.

  16. Carie

Mine is on it’s way! I had a 10% off coupon for signing up for UD emails, so that was pretty awesome. And I got a sample size El Dorado pencil. The colors in N2 are different enough to me to warrant a purchase, but I don’t have that much makeup so I could see how someone who already has lots of shadows wouldn’t find it necessary. I think I’ll like this one even more than N1. I can’t wait to get it!

  17. Tori

aaaaaaaaaaaaah i love it! i ordered it yesterday:) i have the first Naked palette too! im super excited about the brush!

  18. CHLOE

Don’t care. I’m going to own both.

  19. Tracy

I agree, very disappointed that half baked is a repeat, it wasn’t such a standout from the original that we needed another one. I’m one of those people who loves neutrals and am still going to buy this palette.

Thanks for your review I can always count on you for the best info!!

  20. nica

I would not be surprised if UD is saving the cool tones for a NP3 next year!

  21. Rebecca

why don’t you ever go all out on your lashes……..?

  22. Mires

Hi Christine, Thank you for the review; I was really looking forward to hear from you on this. I would definitely look for it and give it a try to this new palette, I love the way you did your make up with this palette.

  23. Michelle09

I just bought the original Naked palette over a month ago so I’m still having fun creating looks with that one. Since Naked 2 will become apart of the main collection, I’ll probably just hold off on buying it until March or so. Had it come with a double sided eyeliner like Naked 1 did when it first came out, I probably would have rushed to buy it lol, but after seeing your swatches, I think I can wait. Great review!

  24. Ariana

    Hi Christine!
I was just wondering if I should get the Naked 1 or 2. I dont have either and I wanted to know which one you recomended for someone with fair skin and green eyes. I dont have any urban decay eyeshadows and I was going to buy one of the palletes with my money. Thank you!(:

  25. Ashley D.

I wished they made all the shadows matte, that would’ve been a great change.

  26. Stephanie

Very pretty, but I have the first one and I think I think I will pass on this one, they look very similiar. I do agree I wish they would make a more cool toned one, i would love that.

  27. Esme

I’m very pale and cool-toned (NW10-ish), and since I don’t own many eyeshadows, I really want a versatile neutral palette. Are the Naked palettes too warm-toned to look natural on my complexion? And if so, is there a more cool-toned neutral palette out there? Thanks!

  28. Christin

Thanks for the honest review Christine! Definitely skipping as I have the original, and was really hoping for a cooler palette.

  29. Laura

by far the best review I’ve seen! your reviews are very thorough! I can’t wait to get mine in the mail!! I have the first one and I use it every single day and this one has such beautiful colors!! love it!

  30. Taylor

I’m more of a cool undertone, and the palettes look similar to me! I just don’t know which one to get

  31. Kasey

how is the mirror in this one, the naked 1s seem to look like tinfoil, is this one any better?

  32. Avatar of J-Boogie Jocelyn

I received my palette today and overall I’m really happy! I have Naked 1 and have really enjoyed using it. No doubt, the two palette’s are similar so if NK1 didn’t work for you, I doubt NK2 will. Also, I am having a different experience than Christine with Tease. The texture of mine is not hard the way hers is. My brush picks up color from Tease quite easily. In fact it’s just shy of being a bit powdery. I would agree though that it’s not intensely pigmented. Mine is light/medium pigmentation though I found it nice on the eye when used with primer. So weird that yours and mine are different. I guess they need to work on consistency between lots? So far so good though. Thanks for your work Christine!

  33. Maggy

I like this one even more than the 1st. This has my fav e/s YDK & 2 of the e/s’s from the RollerGirl palette that i missed out on. Im so saving my money for this baby!

  34. Liz

I was going to buy this, it got back in stock and I was excited. However, after looking at your swatches and review. I am going to pass. A lot of the colors, I am not so crazy for. I got Inglot shadows instead (when they were on sale) and picked out colors based off of your swatches. I got both a neutral and color 10palette. While this is more expensive than Naked 2, I feel that i will be able to use all of the colors unlike N2. A lot of Hype was for the Anniversary Palette by Urban Decay as well, I ordered it instantly and was disappointed when it arrived in the mail. I learned to not get sucked in by hype and just go with colors I know I’ll wear. If I got the palette it would be just for the brush! lol!

  35. Jessica

I’m gonna wait until January to buy this, but I will buy it. I’m a sucker, I know :) It’s irritating that Half Baked is in it again (I have it in BOS 2 and Naked 1) but maybe I’ll start using it for costume parties and be a bronzed statue or something…I’m excited about pistol, snakebite and booty call. Thanks for the fast post and video reviews!

  36. Miss Tish

Love the review, love the palette (arrived Friday, used today).

I do disagree about Yease. It is nearly the PERFECT crease color for me, and wasn’t hard to apply at all. I may be easily pleased, though. I’m also super super pale as well. I use Maybelline FIT me foundation right now in 110, to give you a clue.

My fiance also said that my first attempt at a look with this palette (tease in “wide” crease, suspect on lid, snakebite to define the crease, foxy and bootycall to highlight) was better than anything he liked when I used Naked 1, so… a plus, I guess?

I do love the repeat of Half-baked as it was my most used shade in Naked 1. Granted, that leads me into my next point which is…

Honestly, my biggest love of this palette is that there are far more shades I can use on my lid with this palette. With Naked 1 because of how pale I am, I was really reduced to Sidecar and Half-baked for my lid. With this set, I have a lot more variety! This was really important to me!

  37. ruru

thanks for this! m getting it because I gave my Naked palette to my sister and I think I’ll be able to use the shades in this one more than the original! or I could just buy em both again! lol. Had my Naked for almost a year and I didnt make a dent on that one.

  38. Amanda

Christine – I love your site. I go here every time I want to see swatches and reviews. If I could make a suggestion: would you consider showing even more looks with the UD palettes? I love being inspired :) but I also think a few how-to’s or looks would be awesome.

  39. Mari

    Hi Christine!

I’ve been wanting to build an Inglot palette for a while. Naked2 seems to have a lot of shades that I’d love to have, but I don’t care for Chopper or Tease. Do you happen to know any Inglot dupes for Suspect, Pistol, Verve, or Busted? By the way, .thank you for adding the other Inglot dupes on this post!!

  40. Karla escobar

This is my first naked palette and it is so disappointing, colors were not spectacular, were just plain and kind of boring. I think will return it.

  41. Amanda

I finally got mine yesterday! I know it’s been one day since I’ve had it but I already love it. I have small eyelids and shimmery neutral colors make them pop and appear larger which is what I love. The only thing I hated was the fact that I already had the roller girl palette (which had the colors suspect and verve in it) Which stunk for me because it really wasn’t as exciting when I got the palette, so I gave my roller girl palette to my sis and have the NAKED 2 for myself :) To be honest, I really prefer the NAKED 2 more simply because I love cooler toned eyeshadows more than warmer toned ones, but again that’s my personal preference:) –Great review!!!

  42. Hi Christine,
I’m a new follower of your blog. Thanks for writing up such great reviews!! I always use your blog as a reference point when purchasing cosmetics! I esp. found this entry to help me in deciding to purchase the Naked2 palette. I was quite torn because the colors seemed so similar. After reading this entry and reviewing the swatches, I decided not to purchase Naked2 because it’s so similar to the original palette.

Thanks again and keep doing what you do best!!

    Julie

  43. i never try both of Naked Palette..could you suggest me which one is more worth to buy? since im working as a freelance make up, i want to have a palette that can be use to any skintone.thanks

  44. nay

Has anyone else noticed the eyeshadows smell??? They smell weird It’s strong though??

  45. Ashley

I like these colors, but am cool toned. Is there any other palatte that you would suggest for cooler toned skin?

  46. Arlene

I LOVE NAKED 2. This is my new favorite palette– and trust me– that’s saying something because I have tons of shadows. I’ve been trying it out for about a month and it suits my cool tones much better than Naked 1. I still love N1 but if I could only choose one of the two I would 100% pick N2. For reference: I am NW20-25 (summer), Claire or BR20 in Chanel… Half Baked, Woodwinked, Dazzlelights.. and similar colors look terrible on me..

  47. Avatar of Amy amy

I caved and bought this Friday after seeing it in person. I have the original Naked, and I bought it as a “companion” pallette to my Black Pallette, as I like nude eyes with an accent of color (typically purples), but the two did not work together; both have just been sitting in a makeup bag for the better part of a year. When I saw the Naked 2 pallette, I realized this will work with my BP, and I realized that my N1 will probably work well with my Deluxe Shadows. I have light, very neutral skintone, and eyes that are almost black, so I can pretty much wear any eyecolor. This post actually encouraged me to revisit my N1 pallette, which is barely used, and I actually really like it on it’s own.

  48. Mine

Thank you so much for such an awesome review!:) I don’t have neither of them. But I’ll buy them both though, cause I think they both has bad sites and good sites, thats why I feel I need both. I feel like, they complete each other. And I just want them both, I can’t stop my self from buying both because I just love, love, love Urban Decays Naked palettes. Well, some people might say it’s waste of money, but thats just me.. Keep buying everything, I just can’t stop. It’s a bad disease, I know, but what can I do? Anyway, really great review, I love that you show us every single eyeshadow, swatches and so on. Really detailed, great job :)

  49. jessica1

Hi Christine! i dont have the naked 1 and the naked 2,,,bt i want one and i dont know wich one buy ,,,wich one u think i should get???

  50. Amy

I’m surprised you say this is warm toned. I think it is very cool toned, with the exception of Chopper.
I love it and use it every day.

  51. Avatar of Aneta Aneta

I have Urban Decay Naked 1 – and I like it but I dont love it. I have really cool tones and the Naked 1 is too warm for me. I can use only a couple of the colours and then the rest makes me look really tired. I swatched Naked 2 – and still it’s way too warm for me. And it really looks veeery similar to the original one. I wish they’d make Naked palette that would be for cool toned people. I think it would be crazy fast selling-out product.

  52. Neer

I don’t currently own either of the palettes, but after wanting it for SOOO long (at least the last 7 months lol), I’ve decided to cave and get one regardless the dent to my wallet. Any recommendations as to which palette to get? I don’t care much about the packaging and probably won’t use any of the darker colors.

  53. puelly

Your Camera is awesome !! What is it ?

  54. Kines

Hi Christine! I have both pallettes and love them both, however, since I am more cool toned, I’ve found myself reaching for the Naked 2 pallette more (but, before I had it, I was perfectly content with the original, go figure!). What blush are you wearing in the full face photo on this page? It’s gorgeous on you! I’m looking for a peachy/pink blush just like that. Thanks!

  55. Diane

Hmmm…my Tease is soft and creamy and applies great.
