Guerlain Gardenia Rouge G Lipstick
The Spring Season: Guerlain Gardenia Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Gardenia Rouge G Lipstick ($45.00) is a softened pinky-beige with a light, glossy finish and nearly no distinguishable shimmer. At first, I thought Gardenia was similar to Cle de Peau #103 Extra Silky Lipstick, but this is significantly warmer and brighter. I think maybe it was just that very creamy, solid color with a glossy sheen that made me connect the two. Of course, at $45, it wouldn’t have been the more affordable option!
Rouge Gs are always outstanding in their color pigmentation–very near full coverage in most instances, and the feel of these is amazing. It’s a comfortable lipstick that goes on smooth, creamy, and keeps lips moisturized while its worn. I get four to six hours with these, depending on the shade (lighter ones tend to fade faster).
Is this the right peachy nude lipstick for you? Would you wear it?
The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.

Which of these would u say is ur fav of lip colors: Nudes? Pinks? Reds? Plums? For me it depends on the shade of these 4! For nudes I perfer almost the exact shade of my own skin and pare it with a really dark, intense eye! For pinks I enjoy bubble gum :P Reds, I love dark brick reds cuz it looks amazing with my red hair! Plums? hhhhmmm im not really a big fan of them on me but they look very alluring with dark skin tones!!! ;D
Argh! Another nude color that went yellow on me. I ordered this from Sephora and found it made my skin and teeth look too yellow. The swatch looks so lovely and shows beautifully on you. I would love to see more reviews on Rouge Gs in pinks and nudes because the formula is so amazing but you really need to love the color to justify the cost. Thanks.
This is such a pretty color! I've been trying to look for that shade but w/ a less steep price tag. Any suggestions Christine?
Thanks Christine! I tried Gardenia and it turned into a brownish nude on me with a touch of rose. I haven't expected it that dark. Nothing to write home about especially for the price. Sigh. It looks awesome in your photos though. Wish it looked like that for me, pinky-peach and light, not brown. I should have read your description. For the dupe, it's nearly the same to Estee Lauder Mocha Pink (#50) l/s. MAC Shy Girl is similar but way lighter and less brown.
I have Gardenia and find it very similar to Givenchy Rouge Interdit in Beige Champagne in both colour and glossy texture.
Hi Christine! This looks so gorge and creamy on you! Could you think of some other lippies that would be somewhat close to this shade? Maybe in a different finish? Love colors like this!
Hi Christine! It's a bit late but I FINALLY managed to try on Giulette. OMG LIKE I AM SOOO IN LOVE! I didn't buy it bec the price tag is so darned scary. But I am OBSESSED with it bec I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Gorgeousness. Now if I can just get over the price and just buy it.
Awwww! I'm glad you got a chance to try it... put it on your wish list, maybe someone else with indulge you :)
Beautiful color! :) I noticed with these more expensive lipsticks that in the pictures your lips appear fuller, is that just in photos or does it appear like that in real life too? If so, that just encourages me to check out these lipsticks out even more.
No, they do tend to have better coverage or else look better on lips - Rouge Gs always make my lips look like this!
Christine this lipstick is beautiful and looks like a great nude color... I can just imagine this with a super intense black eye (=. But im curious how long guerlain lipsticks last? If im gonna spend $45 it better be remarkable.
On me, I get around four hours of wear, which is about average for me. I don't find that the Rouge Gs last particularly long relative to other high-end lipsticks. Some of the darker shades I'll get longer wear with, but I find that's true across many brands (since darker lip colors often stain, too).
This is a lovely shade, but I don't think I can afford to splurge on this lipstick. :( Do you think this color would be too light for medium yellow-toned skin?
No, I don't think it'd be too light! But if it's too expensive, I'd definitely try it before buying it... or else from a store with a good return policy.
Hi Christine, I was wondering if the Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks have better staying power or the Cle de Peau Extra Silky Lipsticks? Thanks!
About the same on me - four hours a piece. (Though I was impressed by Cle de Peau, since it has a lot of slip, I expected it to slide away within an hour or two.)
