The Spring Season: Cle de Peau #103 Extra Silky Lipstick

Cle de Peau #103 Extra Silky Lipstick ($50.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a neutral-toned peach nude that applies and feels like a dream. It’s creamy, soft, and well-pigmented. This is just one of those lipsticks that makes you sigh when you apply it.

I often swatch anywhere from ten to twenty lipsticks in a sitting, and by ten, my lips are feeling a little swollen and dried out, but put one of these on? Heaven. Absolute heaven and feels like a nice reprieve to my lips. (I swear, they sing!) The wear time is average for me (four hours), though surprisingly so, just because there is a lot of slip to these, since they are so creamy and glossy. Extra Silky Lipsticks feel like a lightweight, ultra-creamy lipstick meshed with a gloss. They’re very thin and hug lips without emphasizing lip lines.  The closest, in texture, that I’ve come across would be YSL’s Rouge Volupte, but Cle de Peau is scent-free (as far as I could smell!) and wears longer.

Cle de Peau lipstick is luxuriating on the lips, but that feeling of luxury does come at a luxury price tag, unfortunately! If you have the deep pockets to afford and enjoy this pretty little number, Cle de Peau makes one amazing lipstick formula. I wish, at the very least, you got more for your money — 0.07 oz. is well below the average lipstick size (which is 0.12 oz.). Since it has such a creamy feel to it, it’s also easy to “waste” product by layering too much on. But like I said, if you feel like an indulgence, you can’t go wrong with Extra Silky Lipsticks!

(Oh, and P.S. – don’t click the lipstick up too much, because you can’t retract it!)

Is this the right nude lipstick for you? Would you wear it?

The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.

Wow LOL – I didn’t even know they made lipsticks that expensive! I think I’m going to have to splurge on one of these someday since my lips are so picky. Have you ever tried the Laura Mercier stickglosses? They’re my favorite formula so far (I sadly can’t try the YSL RV because I’m allergic to chemical sunscreens and my lips are uber sensitive).

I have this exact same lipstick and havent showed it much love! have only used it once or twice and now its sitting in my drawer. im gonna whip it up again and use it. :) i think mainly the reason why i dont use it that much is because of the price tag! it finishes up too quickly and like you said, because its so creamy you tend to keep applying and apply more than you need.

I bought this lipstick last yr. I have only worn it 5 times :( It’s too late now but I am not too crazy about the color I picked out. Seemed great at the time. It does feel great on my lips but I am not sure if I would repurchase. I waste a lot of product by layering it on to get some color on my lips.

      Hi Lorraine,

I actually can’t. I’m allergic or easily irritated by an ingredient they use in their lip products — I tried all of them and my lips were burning nearly instantly and peeling for the next week

It’s not a bad shade, though it’s distinctly warmer!

Oh my, this is a gorgeous color.

I know $50 sounds a little ridiculous but for me, i don’t buy lipsticks very often and will only buy when I do enough research and testing on the product. I’ve tried a sample/tester of one of the cle de peau lipstick and it feels AMAZING.. You’re right, it feels like heaven. So far, the only lipsticks that I find heavenly are Cle de peau, Shu uemura (it’s a must try), and some of the NARS ones are good too but they still tend to dry out on my lips.

This is a gorgeous peachy color and I’m looking forward to checking this color at the counter. :)

    thanks for the review.

Sometimes it’s worth it if it’s the product you’ll use regularly, or if say you’re not a big lipstick fan but just LOVE that one formula – then I think it’s totally worth the $! :)
