The Scarlet Season: Urban Decay Gravity Lipstick

Urban Decay Gravity Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a rich, ruby-esque shade of red with maybe a little tinge of raspberry in it. It has a very soft microsparkle of red, but overall, it has a creamy, glossy finish. All of Urban Decay’s lipsticks have a faint sweetened caramel brulee kind of scent, though I don’t find much taste in the lipsticks from my experience. Gravity applies easily and leaves lips hydrated, with the color wearing four to six hours easy. I’d say this is definitely one of my favorite shades I’ve discovered so far during the series.

What about you? Would you wear this red?

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

This red is pretty too, I like the slight sheerness to it, but at the same time it has decent pigmentation.

      Agreed!

Why do all of the Urban Decay lipsticks have to be so pretty? Lol, I have a sample of Gash (which I love) but I don’t know if I want to shell out $22 a lipstick. Plus, I dont like the little dagger at the bottom of the tube. But this color, Revolution, Sellout, and Jilted are sooo pretty that I would never be able to choose just one!

LOL! Maybe because they totally reformulated and went back to the drawing board–at least in a sense–a few years ago!

I think the dagger is fun at first, but it’s impractical. You can’t stand it up so you can see the name (which is on the “top” of the lipstick–the flat side), and you can’t stand it up on the dagger… eh it’s pretty or creative but not so functional!

Very Pretty! It reminds me of a nail polish color i used to have….

    • Christine

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

      Ohh, any idea what polish?

  13. Lorna

    Friday, November 13, 2009

very nice in the tube but it looks fairly sheer on the skin. does that make it more wearable and buildable?

  14. Luisafer

    Friday, November 13, 2009

though this was going to look better, but too light, not my favorite of the bunch.

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

      Aww :(

Okay, so I’ve seen two reviews of this color on youtube now, I wasn’t able to swatch it at my Sephora since it was out for the tester and they didn’t have it in stock. But, people complained about Gravity having a weird, bitter taste, did you notice that at all?

    • Christine

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

I didn’t notice any particularly off taste, to be honest, but I don’t really lick my lips a lot either, you know? I generally don’t even know what a lipstick/gloss tastes like… unless I review it, because then I try to make sure I “taste” it at least once.

      • Rosie

        Saturday, November 14, 2009

Okay so I’ve read you’re warmer toned. I’m cooler toned, do you think this would still work or Revolution?

        • Christine

          Saturday, November 14, 2009

          Yes, I do :)

  16. J

    Friday, November 13, 2009

I was hoping it’d be more opaque =/

    • Christine

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

Aw, seems pretty opaque to me–maybe it’s just the glossiness?

  17. Catherine

    Saturday, November 14, 2009

Oooh, that looks so pretty in the tube… that it’s a little disappointing on the lips, actually!

    • Christine

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

      LOL! Aww!

  18. Vivi

    Saturday, November 14, 2009

Uhh I really like it. Are you going to feature “MAC Red” in your “scarlet season”?

    • Christine

      Saturday, November 14, 2009

Yes, I will be! Well, I think — I bought several permanent red lipsticks last week, but I can’t remember if they were sold out of MAC Red or not… or if I have it, lol.

awww i’m excited :) you rock!

I bought it but unfortunately what looked like a beautiful red on my computer turned out to be more burgundy when I received it. I can still make it work though by layering a lighter gloss over it. The shade it ok if you are into the dark shades but it’s not what I consider “red.” If you are looking for Christmas/Santa Claus red I’d take a pass on this one.

I didn’t notice any strange taste like someone mentioned.

    • Christine

      Monday, November 23, 2009

Oh no! I’m really sorry it wasn’t as red as you thought :(
