The Scarlet Season: L’Oreal Plumped Red Infallible Plumping Lipgloss

L’Oreal Plumped Red #306 Infallible Plumping Lipgloss ($9.99) is a sheer, lightly tinted orange-based red lipgloss with “plumping power.” It lightly plumps up lips with just a touch of a tingle, which I didn’t find too bothersome (and I’d say I’m particularly sensitive to lip plumpers and find the majority overwhelming). I wish the color was bolder and more opaque, because it is rather subtle and sheer. It does, however, significantly tint and add redness to my lips, and it wears well, because it has a tendency to stain a little rather than sit on top of lips like a typical gloss. It has the faintest bit of shimmer, but it’s hardly noticeable on lips.

What about you? Would you wear this red?

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

Honestly, after the Le Metier de Beaute raspberry gloss, I’m having a hard time liking any other red glosses. FRAMBOISE CREME is backordered on neimanmarcus.com *cries*. This looks okay for people who wanted to look very natural and subtle but I’d personally go nude for that look.

  2. Lorna says:

very subtle but i like it

  3. Kristina says:

I’m so surprised this is called a gloss, it looks like a tinted balm.

  4. Luisafer says:

too subtle, if I want to wear red, I like something brighter or bolder.

  5. Ruth says:

Christine, you’re my makeup angel !!!!!!!!!! That gloss is exactly what I’m looking for, than you.

  6. Ashley says:

I actually quite like it. I prefer subtle colours to very opaque, simply because I usually like to reapply my lip products almost every hour (from habit) and I also like to apply different products throughout the day.

Is the colour buildable though? I find that most of my sheerer glosses can be more opaque when applied in a few layers.

    Christine,
I would so wear this lippie. Thanks for the review!!

  8. Tavia says:

What a vibrant color. My lips are to small for this this color, I usually use shades of pink, peach and light brown

    • Gaby says:

with small lips, i find that going a little over the lipline just on the cupid´s arc makes them seem poutier without looking all shauna sand

  9. Meghan says:

Ive found the formula for infallible glosses to be a bit strange, it starts off smooth but sets to a very tacky finish that clumps pretty bad along the inside of my lips. :( I really like the color I have too, its a pretty, shimmery mauve.

  10. Gretchen says:

I really like this gloss, it has a great punch of color without being too garish. It goes better with fair skin tones.
