The Makeup Dupe List – Beta
If you’ve checked out The Dupe List in the past few days, you’ll notice it has changed a bit! We are currently going through beta testing of The Dupe List. Shaun–the tech guy–is looking for your feedback. If you have comments, questions, or suggestions regarding the beta release, please e-mail them.
Please note that there are upcoming features/fixes to be implemented, such as improved sorting, pagination, search, and further clean-up of the list itself (e.g. spelling, capitalization, etc.). We also plan to make brand the first selection, and then the Shade drop-down will list appropriate shades for that brand.
I'm really looking forward to the whole thing being completed! Here's my little little suggestion: Yuu could put in a floating thumbnail/swatch when you hover the mouse over the name. Thanks for cool system ^^

I really like the idea of the dupe list. Its helpful to be able to find products with similar coloring across the different brands. Here are the things that would help make the dupe list app better. CRASH * Names that contain a single quote should not crash due to an invalid query. This leads me to believe that your app is susceptible to SQL injection attacks SEARCH PAGE / SEARCHING * Approaching the dupe list for the first time, you may think you can set the fields to something specific if you don't read the text. Turns out that doing so results in an error message after waiting for the page to refresh. * It doesn't really make sense to look for a "DUPE" across product types, however the functionality makes sense if you are looking for an eye shadow that is similar to a particular lipstick color. * Searching for dupes by brand alone isn't useful as it returns way too many results. * I wish I could see all of the shades in color (as true as you can get on the web without posting an ICM profile for each shot). * Add a search by color, which shows all of the products filtered by brand and product type. RESULTS * Include a simple search UI above the results with the current query so the user can refine their search * Show side by side swatches to show proof of similarity * Add links to Temptalia's reviews for all of the products, what a great way to pull people back to the heart of the site. * When showing results for a particular product, show the product with its color, and link on the top and a scrollable list of all the dupes below it. * Add jQuery sorting to the columns (glad this is an upcoming feature) LINKS Here is a cool jQuery object you could use to do a color picker to make it easier to pick a shade near what the user is searching for: http://www.eyecon.ro/colorpicker/ - Paul
We don't have reviews or swatches or side-by-side swatches for all products, so that is not something feasible at this time, just FYI! :) If you could, make sure you email this to Shaun, so he can have all the feedback in one spot and can contact you if he has questions!
Good idea! This REALLY helps me out since I love both MAC and Urban Decay. I had no idea Stars N' Rockets and Fishnet were virtually the same shade. Now I know which one to buy! I was curious about Urban Decay's Ransom to but since it's basically like Parfait Amour (which I have already) I have no use for Ransom now. :/ Thank you soooo much for this!!!!!!!!!!
There should be an easy way to go back to the selection page, e.g. by clicking the picture of the blushers. Now when you find one dupe, you need to re-enter the page.
I tried to use it and I'm pretty unimpressed... It should be organized like: Choose Brand > update product type list > choose product type > update colours available > choose colour > submit Otherwise when you make all the colours correspond with any type of brand or product type, makes a bigger hassle for the user.
Hi Shirrley, If you check the features/fix list (included in this post, too) - additional sorting functionality is an upcoming feature :)
