I have had a few readers ask me why Temptalia doesn’t provide a rating system. I’ve never known to be all that generous with ratings, and I always feel that a rating is useless without an extensive explanation–and I don’t want people to skip to the rating and ignore the review! However, I can understand how they may be useful, so I would like to do a trial run of a rating system and get your input on whether this is a good/bad change.
There will be six different ratings (essentially 0-5), as well as ratings for price alone; these are all explained…

Not For Me: This is the equivalent to a product being not rated (or rated zero, though I’ve yet to find a product that deserved this rating). It will be pretty clear that this product was not for me for some reason (e.g. for those with oily skin or red heads).

Pass Worthy: I don’t recommend this product for most people. I find it more pass worthy than anything else, for whatever reasons stipulated in the full review. Reasons may range from poor cost value, poor product value, didn’t work very well, etc.

Just Average: It worked just okay, but it didn’t impress me. Products that fall into this category are ones I liked enough to use, but I wouldn’t repurchase nor incorporate into my normal routine.

Consider It: I liked the product enough to use it regularly, though I may or may not repurchase it. It’s a good product, and it is worth looking into it if it is something you might be interested in.

Worth Trying: The product worked well, impressed me in some form, and it would be on my list to repurchase and use in my normal routine. I recommend it to my readers to give it a try if they have the opportunity or it is a product that they have been looking for.

Must Have: This is the best rating, and as a result, rarely given to keep this rating only for products with true excellence. These are products that I will repurchase when I run out, and I have already incorporated into my normal routine. I consider these products staples.
Additional tags you may find on reviews…
![]()
Bargain: This product’s price is a steal, bargain, cheap, etc. relative to high-end products. For example, face creams under $15 are considered a bargain; lip products under $8, eye products under $8, etc.

Affordable: I believe that the “average” consumer’s budget can afford this particular product. Products that are more middle of the road in price would fit in this category; for example, face creams under $30, lip products under $15, eye products under $15, etc.

Expensive: These are products that most of us have to think about purchasing and whether it would fit into our budget. They can be bought with thought, but one wouldn’t just try it on a whim at the price. For example, face creams under $60, lip products under $30, eye products under $30, etc.

Luxury: Luxury products are ones that go beyond just being expensive, these are typically considered out of reach for most consumers. These are products that exceed the price limits of expensive–they are luxury goods. For example, La Mer and La Prairie products would be considered luxury beauty items.

i would rather u keep it with no ratings. your review is perfect without them it gives enough information without it for me to decide for my self if i like or dont like the product, by adding a rating it would just like doing what everyone else does, and also a rating is just a word or a number that does not really matter, cause the review says it better than a rating would. you are right everyone will just look at the rating and not read the oh so helping review. then they will buy the product and say how it did not work and how come u gave it a high rating.
Hi Tricia! There would still be a review with the rating, though, so you can still see that for yourself :)
The rating system is a fabulous idea! I love the icons. It says how you really feel at a glance.
Thanks, Marsadie!
I always look at both the rating AND the review. If I saw the rating first, I would like to know why a product is rated that way, hence, I read the review. Now, if I read the review, a rating which summed up the review is helpful. I like your rating system a lot. have fun testing it. I’d certainly look forward to your next reviews, Christine
Thanks, Pia! :) Hopefully others will act the same, ha!
This is a great addition to your reviews and I don’t think it will hinder people from reading them in its entirety.
Thanks for your input, Janis :)
Oh god, just do away with the ratings… why let the readers rate ur stuff? LOL! I’ll just read EVERYTHING u post! I love everything from u! =D Ratings will mean nothing to me! And to be honest, I don’t think I’ll bother to rate because I’ll just give full marks for EVERYTHING on this blog. What’s the point of rating when EVERYTHING here is so good?
I love u and I love ur blog… ’nuff said. =D
Oh, Cosine, the readers wouldn’t be rating it - it would be my final rating, though!
PS, like tricia commented, ur review says it better than any ratings…
