Temptalia Asks You – What makeup do you take with you when you travel?

Date: June 29, 2009 - Posted in: Temptalia Asks You

What makeup do you take with you when you travel? Say you’re going somewhere for a week?

.

I’d take 2 15-pan palettes, a couple of pigments, 5-10 lipsticks/lipglosses, 3-5 blushes, a few eye liner, and of course, the usual staples (foundation, moisturizer, etc.)!

The last trip I went on was to Japan for three weeks and I took:
    - Laura Mercier Precious Metals Palettes (2)
    - Dior Petal Shine Quint
    - Dior Tinted Hydraction in 3
    - Anastasia Tinted Eyebrow Gel
    - Dior ICONIC Mascara
    - MAC HK Blush in TIPPY
    - 4 glosses/lip sticks

I think I did good! I mean not counting skin care, I fit everything into a small makeup bag. Including brushes!

I’m going to travel next week. I think I will take a minimum amount of makeup since I’m going to buy MAC when I arrive to my destination. A quadful or two of e/s, a primer (eyes), a blush, concealer(s), small loose powder & a blot powder, some lippies, a mascara and some brushes.

This depends on where I am going. What I would pack for going to the beach for the week, is much different than if I was going to Vegas. Usually it would be a moisturizer, concealer, powder, mascara, black and brown eyeliners, a few neutral eyeshadows, two blushes, and a few brushes.

Oh I’ve been thinking about this for ages now because I’m going on holiday for two weeks in July and I can’t take too much stuff with me. I don’t want to take anything that I really like or really expensive in case my luggage is lost, but also we’ll be going to the beach every day, so won’t be wearing much make up anyway.

Last time I went away (5 days at Disneyland) I took my 88 shimmer palette, few eyepencils, couple of mascaras, foundation, MSF natural+shimmer duo, 4 blushes, and a number of long lasting lipsticks (Lipfinity). I might just do the same again, it’s easier to take one palette than 10. ;)

It depends, if I am going somewhere like Japan or HK where I will buy a load of makeup there anyway, I will bring less makeup.
The usual stuff including skincare, primer, foundation, concealer, powder, brushes, a 4 pan quad, brow pencils, 2 blushers etc.

If I am going somewhere beachy, then I will bring less stuff.

  18. Natalie

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Travel size Shu oil cleanser, toner, SPF, Foundation, powder and brow pencil. With color makeup stuff, I deliberately leave most at home, so that I will have an excuse to buy all new ones :D

I def. try my best to pick color combinations that can go with an array of outfits so that I can mix n’ match without having to take too much. For a week, I’d probably bring:

    - 1 15-pan palette filled with the color combos i plan to mix n’ match
    - black & brown eyeliner & maybe 1 or 2 colored ones if needed
    - eyelash curler & mascara
    - pink, nude, & brown lipliners
    - pink, nude & brown lipsticks w/ coordinating lipglosses
    - pink & peach blush
    - foundation & concealer
    - bronzer & blot powder

I’m traveling (for one week) in a couple of weeks and won’t be checking a bag, so I have to cut waaaay back! I’ll be taking:

    - foundation (one of those samples they give you at the makeup counter)
    - one blush
    - a few eyeshadows
    - one eyeliner (normally I just use a wet brush and apply dark eyeshadow as eyeliner)
    - a few lipsticks and lip glosses
    - mascara
    - moisturizer
    - a few brushes

It should all fit into a little travel makeup bag!

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Wow, apparently I travel light. Comes of being a pilot’s daughter and watching and learning from Dad’s ability to pack for a week in about ten minutes flat.

For a week I’d take with me:

1 mascara (the only one I own)
    1 Eye Kohl
2 eyeshadows – my neutral base shade and my most-neutral crease darkener
maybe my rapidblack, depending on if I thought I’d be going out in the evenings
    lip balm
    Love Nectar lipglass
    pressed powder and bronzer

  22. Erin

    Monday, June 29, 2009

LOL this is timely…. I’m going away soon and am trying to decide what to bring… I just hate leaving things at home.
I really only need to take one MSF, not two, right?

  23. Tasha

    Monday, June 29, 2009

i have this old ‘Caboodle” i’ve had since i was…probably 11. (27 now). I cram it full with cleanser, oil of olay complete moisturizer.
    -My mineral foundation, mineral veil.
-A neutral quad that has the brown I use for my brows as well as 3 other great neutrals
-UDPP, a handful of other shadows. Typically some plums and a couple brights.
-Black, Brown, and sometimes Navy liner. Mascara
-Kabuki, face, blush, eyebrow/spoolie, and at least at 3 eye brushes
-Typically just one blush. a bronzy peach shade
    -lots of glosses and lippies

  24. Ashlyne

    Monday, June 29, 2009

i try to bring minimum! normally it would just be a powder foundation, one blush (chanel’s tweed are my fave to bring along!), multi-coloured eyeshadow palette, one neutral eyeshadow palette, gel liner, brow powder, 1 lipstick, 1 lipgloss.

Think that’s about it! Travel light ;P

  25. Rio

    Monday, June 29, 2009

I bring my Coastal Scents 88 eye palette, because it has a few shades of each color. I also bring my Kat Von D Metal Orchestra palette. I don’t tend to bring lipstick, but occasionally I’ll bring a good red to go with my black eyeshadow. I almost never bring foundation, since I so rarely wear it, but I do bring a concealer and blush. I always bring my brush set, and, of course, face wash and moisturizer.

I get nervous bringing my really good stuff, like the Kat Von D palette, because things can get so easily broken while traveling.

  26. Sass

    Daily travel? To like work…shopping?

I take my powder, a mascara and my lip stuff. That’s it.

      Monday, June 29, 2009

      For travel travel?

…one of everything, a couple of nail polishes, a 15 pan palette and all of my MAC brushes.

  27. hi

    Monday, June 29, 2009

I’d take MAC Shroom, Sable, Sweet Liason duo, Dare You lipstick, Soap and Glory Marvelips, MAC Powerpoint in Engraved, a ton of q-tips, Fuschia and that white pigment whose name escapes me, Lingering brow pencil, all my brushes, my L’Oreal shadow quad, one mascara, my Sonia Kashuk bubblegum pink cream blushstick, Springsheen blush, my Bonne Belle quad, shadow base, face wash and on-the-spot acne med, conditioner, leave-in hair conditioner and my hairbrush.

  28. K

    Monday, June 29, 2009

I’m pretty minimalist both in my entire collection and when I travel. I’m leaving today for Amsterdam and Paris and have:
    -1 Smashbox 6 eyeshadow palette
-1 Pixie (from Target) 6 eyeshadow palette
    -Covergirl LashBlast mascara
    -3 urban decay eyeliners
    -Bare Esentuals foundation and powder
    -Skincare stuff (moisturizer, etc.)
    -Smashbox primer
    -Brow powder
    -4 or so brushes
    -3 Lancome Juicey Tubes

Hm, not as minimalist as I thought, though it all fits in a tiny makeup bag. I don’t use blush because I redden super easily already and it’s just overkill. I don’t really care about bronzer enough to travel with it.

  29. Christy

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Way too much! MAC travel brush set (holiday collections), a few palettes, 2 blushes, foundation, concealer, powder, lipstick palette, 3-6 lipsticks & glosses, shimmer powder, moisturizers (day, night, eye), mascara, dark brown eyeliner, black eyeliner, eyelash curler, tweezers, glitter eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, and nailpolish. Yea, its a lot! I don’t end up using all of my eyeshadows, so next trip will be less I think.

  30. Anna

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Foundation, black liner, mascara, a MSF, my fav gloss at the moment and my contour powder. As for tools, I bring my stippling brush (holiday set) and a blush brush. And really, I only break those out when I feel like I really have to doll myself up. I don’t actually do full on “looks” when I’m traveling because I always feel like I’m wasting time or something…

  31. Melly

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Revlon Colorstay Foundation or Tinted Moisturizer
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Medium Dark Natural and Shimmer
If its summer, Get Baked palette from Urban Decay
    MAC Brule eyeshadow for highlight
224, 217, 227, and kirkland flat shader brush
    188 brush for foundation
    eco tools blush brush
    clinique moisture surge
stila bronzer in shade 01 w/ kirkland contour brush
hue and creme d’ nude lipstick
    TLP petting pink
    Telescopic Mascara
MAC blacktrack fluidline and liner brush

haha wow, that’s a lot of stuff!

  32. Cheri

    Monday, June 29, 2009

A warm neutral to smokey palette (1 15-pan, or just a cheapo coastal scents neutral palette since i’m not too worried about it shattering at ALL)
    MAC Brushes: 129, 134, 182, 187, 209, 217, 219, 222, 224, 239
    Spoolie from Sonia Kashuk
    2 blushes, 1 bronzer
    5 lipsticks, 2 glosses
    Invisible Set powder
    Loreal Voluminous Mascara
MAC Liquid Last in Boot Black, and Blacktrack fluidline
    Studio Fix Powder
    Liquid Foundation
    Studio Finish Concealer
    Painterly Paint Pot
    2 pigments

and that’s about it for makeup.

  33. Julie

    Monday, June 29, 2009

When I travel, I always carry light, and I mean LIGHT.
I only take an eyeshadow palette that contains an eyeshadow brush, moisturizer, face wash, toner, and some lip gloss :)

  34. AYHM

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Yeah, I try to keep it light as well. As far as color, I carry a few shadows, a couple lipsticks and blushes that work well together so that I can create different looks with the same products. I also love to collect sample size items that come with gwp’s and I use those for travel and for my purse.

    • AYHM

      Monday, June 29, 2009

I do take my travel brush kit as well (these are not the same brushes I use at home on a daily basis – they are dedicated for travel only).

No matter how long this list is, it’s actually not much :)

As a former flight attendant – fired – i initially started out taking quad pallates for my work makeup, a couple of pigments, 2 or 3 regular brushes and more SE brushes (didnt want to lose the real ones) and many other things..but the point im making here is i was handling my own luggage and my quads were breaking all the time making a big mess of crumbled mixed up pan shadows. So it happened a couple of times and i had to rebuy 8 shadows as pots, but i would never travel with a pallate, this way if its going to break its going to stay self contained, and im a very experienced and professional traveler, who has also loaded luggage for the airlines as well. do no pack pallates in checked luggage. We arent called ‘bag throwers’ for no reason! But I’m all done with the airlines, too unstable and I dont like always not being home or getting stuck somewhere because of weather. But thats my advice from a makeup obsessed girl who worked in all aspects of aviation and many airlines for 10 yrs, most recent job Flight Attendant for 6 yrs and I can even fly em, I just dont have enough hours to get a rating!

I don’t usually wear Bare Escentuals makeup, but I have the starter kit that comes in a great box to just throw into my suitcase. It has nice brushes so I don’t need my MAC ones (I do have to bring eye brushes, though). I put a couple MAC quads into the box and it’s perfect!!

  42. Amber

    Monday, June 29, 2009

I take the same twelve items every time. I’m very habitual, so I consistently keep all twelve items in my travel bag….hahah

    3) MAC MSF Natural in Medium

I’m actually going to visit my bf for 4 days in late July and have been thinking about this a LOT.

I’m popping the insert out of a palette and taking 7 or 8 shadows, 2 cream blushes, 1 powder blush and 1 CCB in that

moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, fluidline, pale yellow eye kohl or fasicnating, mascara, a couple tendertones (no other lip stuff, he hates it and I don’t want to hear about it, LOL), MSFN, setting powder, fix+ and my brushes. it all fits in a TEEENY cosmetic bag (except my brushes, they have to go in a brush roll). He is not prepared to see it all yet. IDK what I’m going to do when I move there. He’ll freak out seeing the HUGE train case, LOL.

Though, I just went on a 2.5 day backpacking trip and then all I took with me was the toner, moisturizer (turned multi-purpose) and sunscreen.

Depends on where I’m going and why I’m going there! But usually:
Foundation, 1 blush, 2 or 3 lip products, 1 eyeliner, 1 neutral eye palette (4 colours), and 2 brushes (one for shadow, one for foundation)

    I pack light :)

Let’s see.. I would take as much makeup as I can cram in my train case!!! Foundation, blush, 5 or 6 brushes, brush cleaner, 6 of 7 l/s and the same l/g, as many 15 palettes as will fit in the bottom (about 6), mascara, 2 paint pots, and that should about do it!!

P.S. I’m not high maintenence!! LOL!! My hubby made me put that!
