Either that really expensive stuff from Sephora that supposed to make your eye lashes longer and fuller. As well as the stick on nail polish!

Those press-on shadows were pretty interesting. Or the brushless nail applicator that Lancome came up with a few months ago. Apparently you were supposed to dip this curved applicator onto the polish or something, I never got to understand how it really worked. Thought that was interesting. Does anyone know how it’s supposed to work? I’d love to hear from anyone who had tried it! :)

You’re supposed to dip it into the nail polish and then apply it with the applicator on your nails. It was more like a top coat I think, as it was not pigmented, only gold glitters.

I bought a kit from discount and I can tell you that it doesn’t work! The applicator is not wide enough for all nails, and it’s too flexible. The product dries out quite fast > the result is clumpy.

Heated eye lash curlers…. It’s bad enough having heated hair products so close to your face but directly on your eyes? Scary

I heat my eyelash curler with my blowdryer before using. I test it on my wrist to make sure it isn’t too hot. It makes SUCH a big difference in the curl!

i learned from a korean friend when i was 13 to heat a clean mascara brush with a lighter to curl your lashes. her mom taught her and so on back, and now atleast they have a safer way. I like my heated curler bc I don’t pinch my eyelids with it like i sometimes do with my curler

It is not supposed to be HOT! Just warm enough to curl your lashes up. I love mine – it curls up without taking any eyeliner off and the curls last all day

        Where did you get yours?

heated eyelash curlers work wonderfully… i love mine!
when you use it, you can barely feel the heat on your eye at all… it doesn’t get HOT, but just warm enough to delicately warm your lashes. :)

it’s much safer than using a hair dryer to heat up a regular eyelash curler…

Oscillating/rotating mascaras, eyelash weaving, black lipsticks (ok, some of the gloss items were wearable but not by many)… some doozies this last year.

I don’t get special mascara for your lower lashes. Why not just use your normal mascara? You have to be careful or it’ll smudge. Not a big deal.

I live in Japan and something they have here (I’ve seen it on Youtube too) is a set that comes with some type of glue, and a plastic stick. Asian women can spread the glue on their eyelid and push it inwards with the stick so their eyelid sticks to itself, making a “creased” lid like women of European descent have. Creepy!

      Monday, April 13, 2009

      I agree, it is creepy!

      Monday, April 13, 2009

If you think that’s creepy; my old roommate (from Korea) actually got SURGERY over last Christmas break to achieve that crease. Now THAT’S creepy and crazy!!!

      • Natalie

        Monday, April 13, 2009

It is not really crazy and creepy, if you understand the culture over there. A girl without such crease is not accepted ‘pretty’ over there and pretty girls tend to get better jobs and boyfriends etc.

      • BeautyBitch

        Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Neither creepy nor crazy for me…. it’s a minor operation with a low risk rate if done safely by a decent doctor. I had it done 7 years ago and I love it! It really opens up my eyes and makes them look bigger. I have narrow almond shaped eyes and need all the help I can get looking more awake! And I’d like to think I was pretty both before AND after the surgery :)

Umm, quit being such a Eurocentric moron. Plenty of Asian women natural eyelid creases. And if you haven’t noticed, whites aren’t the only race with double eyelids. Maybe you should shut your mouth and do your research.

ooh I forgot to say two more stuff: Givenchy phenomen-eyes (or something like that), the mascara that looked like a snowball. Also Lancome’s black lipgloss. I swatched it, expecting it to be very sheer like Shu Uemura’s couture shades– WRONG. It was literally a black lipgloss that goes on BLACK on your lips.

Phenomeneyes is great, easy to use and make my lashes much thicker and longer! I admit it looks weird, but it really works.

    Vibrating mascara’s for sure!

    Monday, April 13, 2009

The Asian thing on the market, where you put this glue thing on your crease to create a double eyelid. Asian people are so beautiful! They don’t need it, I’m have double, but I don’t see what the big deal is with “double eyelids” I don’t see the problem is with no eye lids and monolids.

    • BeautyBitch

      Tuesday, April 14, 2009

No “problem” with monolids, but some people just prefer the look of double lids. Asian faces can be beautiful with or without double lids.

Even though I use them…I remember thinking that biore pore strips for your nose were really strange.

Totally have to agree with the press on shadows, especially because they come in animal prints. Maybe for halloween but other than that, don’t get it! Also the vibrating mascara wands. Why?!?! I think you can do the job of really coating your eyelashes best with the use of your own hand. I also did not get the Givenchy ball wand mascara. Phenom”eyes” or something like that. Maybe its cause I didn’t test it, but can’t see how a ball wand does the trick. There definitely has been some weird ones out there this year. Everyone trying to be on the tip of the “advanced/modern” iceberg, but not thinking of practicality.

I LOVE the pressed shadows! They work great and last forever! They are made of mineral powder. There is the “Exotic” set that has camouflage, zebra, leopard prints (which I own) and the newer one the “Butterfly” (wings colors/patterns) (which I own as well). However, there are more “tamed” colors/patterns available for those less adventurous. I like different & funky and those def do the trick for a night on the town. It’s original and they are so easy to apply. It only takes less than 1 minute so, if you’re in a time crunch, they work so well. There are also the press on” nail polish. I’ve been curious about them but haven’t bought any yet… Does anyone have tried them?
I admit: I am a w***e for new/different take on existing beauty products. I’m willing to try anything once.
What creeps ME out is going under the knife/bleeding/getting stuff injected in my body (Botox/plastic surgery, etc)…

Those press on eyeshadows!!! Everytime I’m at Sephora I have to stop and look at them!!!

    Press on toe nails.
    Heated eyelash curlers.
    Rotating/vibrating mascara wands.
    Airbrushing your makeup on.

    Press on eyeshadows.
    Are you kidding me?!

Oh and the vibrating mascara wands.
It makes me cringe thinking about it.

the press-on eyeshadows… i bought them.. ok i buy everything… they have them in exotic designs which actually look cute but im not sure if i would wear them out during the day lol
they apply very well. they also have them in blues , greens, browns but i have no idea why someone would buy them when u can apply solid colors easily!

heated eye lash curlers and press on eye shadows.

The stick on eyeshadows are really weird, I tested one in store Sephora(on my arm), they are really sticky & the colour is really pixelated.

The stick on nail polish is awesome though! I again tested it & it lasted so long on my one nail. I think if you were pressed for time it would be a great solution.

Press on Shadows. EnKore does a tutorial on how to make them on Youtube. I saw his video long before I saw those awful press on ones at Sephora. He did his so you could give them as gifts which was interesting.

I hate that mascara that looks like a snowball. It creeps me out. Looks like a bug.

I think talking eyeshadow palettes are ridiculous.

That spin lash rotating mascara wand. I think it would be a good thing for people with medical problems- arthritis or other issues, but everyone else should be able to handle twirling their regular mascara wand as they apply it.

  19. Tanya

    Monday, April 13, 2009

LOL I agree with all the previously mentioned things – the rotating mascara being my top “HUH” item of the year. Mostly because I see it staying around for a while. The press on make-up just seems like such a fad that I cannot believe that it would be around for more than a few months. BUT the weird rotating/vibrating mascara, it doesn’t seems like just a fad.

  20. Sarah

    Monday, April 13, 2009

The rotating mascara – what the hell? This thing took longer to make one mechanical rotation than to do it manually would. And was the size of a house.

The Givenchy Phemon’eyes Mascara – Every photo/video review I have seen of this mascara results in super clumpy, spider-leg lashes. Nasty.

Flavoured body lotions/creams – Remember the Jessica Simpson line? This stuff seems so juvenile to me.

As for heated eyelash curlers – they do work! I think it depends on the model though. I bought one in Japan that has this purple plastic version of a normal curler head, and the difference is phenomenal. I don’t even use it much because it is TOO extreme and dolly-like for everyday.

When I use the Phenomeneyes my lashes never clump. I really think the cynics should try it. Might look odd, but works really well.

Zip-zappers and Pore sucker machines. I’ve heard miracle stories about the Clarisonic but the machines themselves look like a mini death ray or something lol!

Also the Givenchy mascara that looks like a thistle.

Urban Decay Primer Potion Packaging is ridiculous and the new lipgloss pocket rockets from UD. Huh?

  24. Lauryn

    Monday, April 13, 2009

I tried those “press on” shadows at the Makeup Show in NYC last year.. Yes, they look pixelated, but what people are forgetting, is you still need to get a nice fluffy brush and do some blending.. THEN they look alright. I had zebra print eyes the whole day, I did go outside totally forgetting and I got some wicked stares.. LOL

The press on eyeshadows. It seems like it takes away the fun and customization of applying makeup.

i think the press on nails stencils are cool. i saw sayanythingbrooke on youtube do a tuturial on it and it looks really cool and easy when u get the hang of it. its better then paying 30 something dollars at the hair salon, when u can just roll the stamp with the nailpolish on your nail

I’ve always hated face products that have a brush attached to the tube it comes with, where you’re supposed to dispense the product onto the brush like Neutrogena’s mineral blush – so hard to use!

Actually my mother swears by these for touch-ups on her visible grey routes in between her colouring appointments. I tried the fashion brightly coloured versions back in the 90s but didn’t get on with them at all, it looked all crispy and coated on my hair :(

Eye shadow sealant….??? WTH is that for when you have MAC and Paint Pots LOL
It messes up a good makeup for sure and it totally stings in the eye if you are not careful.

and to think how I used to swear fake eyelashes/eyelash glue was wierd
I always wondered how the idea of acryllic nails came about and the horid orange self tanner stuff. I agree with someone’s post about scented lotions….alot of them are nasty and never smell like what they are supposed to and usually make people wanna hide from you not get closer to you.

oh I forgot to post this one..Dove had a line of anti aging products. I don’t know if it’s still around but one of the things in their line was a deodorant….tell me why we need to anti age under the arms??? LOL
