What beauty brands just don’t catch your eye? Any reason?
.
For me, no, I don’t think so. I’m always drawn to SOMETHING from just about every brand I’ve come across. Ha!

Brands that do Animal testing.
Also some brands that have good packaging but the products suck. I think wet n wild brands have some ok product but the packaging is ugly.

Hmmm tough question. I guess I am not really that bothered about brands such as YSL, Guerlain, a lot of the French brands. I like bright colours and cuteness so brands such as Barry M through to Benefit appeal to me much more. Anything to “sciency” just grates me….

Until recently I’d completely ignored Revlon , it always looks so boring and safe.
The adverts for their matte collection interested me so I bought a bright blue shadow and pink lipstick and the quality was fantastic!
I’ve since bought a couple of lipliners and a blusher (not from the matte collection) and they’re lovely too – shows that I was wrong to pass them by!

Chanel is the one brand I completely ignore. I just think they’re too boring.

=O !! some Chanel products are great! don’t ignore, explore! :) hehehe, I don’t really bother checking out N.Y.C. :p

I’m not crazy about YSL, I find their gold packaging a bit on the tacky side. I also hate the flimsy cheap packaging some drugstore brands have.

I can understand this, Miss_M. And yet, YSL makes one of the best quality make up – some of them being really better than MAC (I think of eyeshadows). When I was around 20, I didn’t like YSL because I thought it was for old rich ladies like Catherine Deneuve (they were suffering from an aging image and too old packaging style) but when I turned 26/27 I started to explore the brand and discovered there was a lot of good things to be found here. :)

I’m exactly the other way around. I used to buy all the HE brands like Chanel, Dior, EL, Guerlain, Lancome and YSL when I was in my (early) twenties. Now, in my thirties I mostly use MAC and Bobbi Brown. I don’t really find the quality of HE brands better than MAC and I don’t want to pay E40,- euros for a blush anymore.

Stila looks really boring and overpriced to me. I’ve also never been interested in Clarins cosmetics, though I like some of their skincare. Also Estee Lauder doesn’t appeal to me.

Estee Lauder & Clinique

Everytime I see Bodyshop, Aveda and Jurlique, etc I just walk past. Never had an urge to check them out either. Same goes for drugstore brands, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Biotherm, Napoleon, Chanel, Clarins, Georgio Armani, Givenchy, Guerlain, Laura Mercier.. My gosh, what is wrong with me! :D I think I am only interested in checking out the brands I love!

:O The Body Shop is great! ALL their stuff is natural with no animal testing whatsoever, their eyeshadows and blushes are extremely pigmented as well as their glosses and lipsticks, and they make some of the best skincare around! It’s all great stuff, but I particularly love their blushes, lippies/glosses and eyeshadows for staying power and pigmentation!
Natalie
Sunday, June 21, 2009
I am sure they have good stuff. But my hand and heart reach for MAC, MUFE and Shu, so it is just waste of money buying stuff from there, hence ignore them completely :D I also used their stuff before and I am afraid to say they were bleh.

Stila, Clinique, Estée Lauder, Helena Rubinstein, Clarins… hard for me to be interested in those brands. Nothing wrong with their products (except for Clinique which I hate) but they just don’t know how to be eventful and exciting. Yet, Estée Lauder produces very good lipsticks. Also, I never check Dior. I don’t find their make up to be very good for the price and I’m not a fan of their conception of make-up.

Since i’m not a big fan of the drugstore brands who are sold in Belgium (Thats loreal, maybelinne, gosh, rimmel, .. ) , i usely ignore them. I’m a sucker for perfume brands, since they combine high quality makeup with couture packaging.

You should definitely check out GOSH. Their eyeliner pencils are absolutely amazing! x

ANY BRAND THAT TESTS ON ANIMALS! -_- It’s okay to test on animals for theory, discovering or medicinal purposes, but not risking a poor animals life for vainity! Sorry I just had to say that – I’m not an extremist in anyway. free speach ^-^

This. Especially since there are so many excellent brands that don’t test on animals, it is pretty obvious that it isn’t necessary to the testing process.
Archelle
Sunday, June 21, 2009
Even if a brand doesn’t currently test on animals, they still probably use data from animal tests performed many years ago.

I’m with you – only cruelty-free products for me.

Any brand that is marketed to older women, such as Clarins and Estee Lauder.
I also never cared for MAC; just seems so overpriced and they’re shady by not listing the ingredients to their products on their website. I’m vegan as well, so I steer clear of any company that hides information. Plus, many of their brushes are made from animal fur, so… no thanks. Call me when you start caring about animals.

MAC does use natural hair for their brushes but the animals are not butchered, just given hair cuts. In order to have high quality hair for brushes the animals are very well taken care of. The glue used is synthetic and the entire process is cruelty free.

There are many that don’t catch my eye, but there are a few that I don’t actually like the product itself like Urban Decay and Stilla.

Rimmel and L’Oreal are the two that I pay least attention to. I use a lot of L’Oreal hair products, but the makeup never jumps out at me. As for Rimmel, I associate it with being a teenager. If you were a teenage girl in the UK in the mid 90’s you probably head at least their lipstick in “heather shimmer” if nothing else!

Clinique, Cargo, and Bobbi Brown. It’s all just such boring packaging.

Sunday, June 21, 2009
Any brand that has cheap, crappy makeup does not interest me. I know that Covergirl, Maybelline and NYC have a few HG beauty bargains, but most of it hardly lasts at all with almost no pigmentation at a SUPER low price! I’d rather pay more money for higher quality, which is what I tell my parents and sister when I go out to buy a 20 dollar eyeshadow. :D

me too. i used to try out drugstore brands, but i kept on getting dissapointed with the outcome, plus i think spending 7-9 dollars on something to try and hate it ridiculous, i thik they raisied their prices. their mascaras are goo though. so i just save my money and only buy brands like mac, urban decay, BE, – and just started liking/trying stila (luv their convertable cheeck blush), too faced (cute e/s palettes) and benefit (cute blush boxes), kat von d (e/s are pigmented and soft palettes). so i dont spend money on drugstore makeup unless i need a new mascara.
brands that dont catch my eye are the more expensive higher end brands like estee lauder, YSL, chanel, dior, givenchy.

Tons! I’m actually relieved to see how much I DON’T like, haha! Maybelline, Almay, Physicians Formula, most Jesse’s Girl, Prestige (except waterproof liners), Josie Maran, Lavanila….Laura Geller, YSL, and those gimmicky BE kits.

I have no interest in Estee Lauder, Trish McEvoy, Smashbox (for the most part), or Clinique. I’ve never tried anything from MUFE but that’s not to say they haven’t caught my eye ;-)

I never check out Estee Lauder or Clinique. They just seem so “blah”. On the other hand, I love MAC and Nars. It surprises me when people say how expensive MAC is — out of all of the department store brands — MAC is definately one of the most affordable :)

Lancome, Guerlain, Dior and Clarins. Even when I worked in cosmetics, I was never even tempted to try any of these brands except Dior, once.

Estee Lauder, Lancome, Clarins, Elizabeth Ardens, CG, Sephora brand, and a few others.

I usually bypass Clinique & Estee Lauder and any other brands where I don’t find they have enough pigment. I have found a few products I liked in those lines but very very rarely.

i usually ignore drugstore unless something new and fabulous comes out. (looking forward to maybellines pulse perfection!) I have wasted so much money on stuff I don’t like from drugstores. I also avoid Dior, CHanel, Shiseido because they are too expensive. I’m not that into Bare Escentuals or Laura Gellar, or Kat von D, or Makeup forever.

Sunday, June 21, 2009
I usually ignore Clinique, YSL, Chanel and the like – probably because I know I won’t be able to afford any of their stuff! Some (most) drugstore brands never catch my eye either. Maybelline has some really nice lipsticks though.

Brands that dont have eye-popping packaging, I know its kind of shallow, but i am really picky.
Also, if they animal test, immediate no!

guerlain, paul & joe, Estee Lauder, Trish McEvoy and drugstore brands mainly.

Drug stores brands I stay away from. I normally stay away from Estee Lauder unless I see a product or two I like, which isn’t usual. I LOVE products that have cute packaging (I think that’s why Benefit is a huge fave of mine), so usually stuff that’s in ugly packaging has got to go just for the sheer fact it doesn’t catch my eye. I’m not too adventurous. I normally stick to MAC, Chanel, Dior, Benefit, Bed Head, Youngblood, and that’s it. Sometimes I’ll buy Clinique when they have specials going on or maybe I’ll pick up some Too Faced or Urban Decay if they have something cute, but normally I don’t go outside my favorites.

I stay away from overpriced items. Such as the Aramni make up line, Channel e/s are overpriced for the quality you are getting. Same with Gurlean e/s. Urban Decay Palettes are cheaper and better in quality. I stay away from BB eyeshadows for the same reason.

I guess I can always find something nice in every brand :P
But most of the time I stay away from brands that I think are too expensive – even though they may have some nice products ;)

A lot of the ‘classy’ brands bore me to tears. Chanel, Dior, etc. They probably have nice basics, but meh. The packaging is boring, the colors are boring.. I tend to shy away from classic designer brands in general though.

Bobbi Brown seems very overpriced and boring to me. Same with Trish McEvoy. MUFE, Smashbox, Urban Decay and Too Faced don’t really appeal to me either. Neither does Lancome, Benefit or Lorac really… I’m not even that interested in Shiseido or Hourglass and I’ve totally given up on Bare Escentuals. It’s way too hard to find a shade that matches perfectly and too expensive to mix your own… plus I’m apparently allergic to bismuth. Spent two years thinking the little red spots on my cheeks were recurring blemishes only to have them vanish overnight after I started using EDM.
Brands I do like looking at: Tarte, Clinique, Dior, Cargo, Kat von D for Sephora (her eyeshadow palettes are AMAZING) and Givenchy. Givenchy’s packaging is just so luxe.

It’s interesting because I usually base how I view a whole brand on whether they have a large variety of foundation shades for AA women. I don’t wear foundation that often, but if I see a brand has just few shades of foundation for AA women I feel the whole line is not trying to get my business whether my shade is reflected or not…so I pass on everything.

It has a great reputation, but Clarins and Shu Eumura (spelling??)… I thinlk it’s over priced and boring packaging and colors.

Clinique, BE, Pur Minerals, CG, L’Oreal, Stila (as I’ve been allergic to their liquid makeup), Smashbox, Dior, Guerlain, YSL, The Body Shop, Aveda, BB, EL, EA, Lancome, WnW (since they d/c AOS), NYC, and most cutesy brands at Sephora (unless I see some raves on MUA for a specific item.
Wow, I sound picky, but I just don’t buy into cute promo anymore – I want something substantial if I’d going to buy an item.

Chanel because of the price, and I can’t stand scented products.
YSL Foundations because their undertones are not yellow enough for my undertones.
