How do you choose what makeup to wear? What’s your basis or formula for choosing what products to wear or colors to use when you go to do your makeup?
I always base it on what I’m planning to wear, which I decide at random. I have to match–I’m compulsive like that.

Depends on what color I feel like wearing on that day. :P But if I’m feeling mellow, I’d choose something more neutral.

Sounds like a good plan, lol! Do you match or contrsat to your clothes?

Anything that looks good with my choice of wardrobe. ;) But more often than not, I don’t find myself matching my makeup with my clothes. Most of the time I find colors that compliment the colors of my clothes. :D

I color-coordinate with what I wear as well. Its harder to do that during the week though because I have to work with more neutral shades than I can on the weekends. But I definitely have a compulsive habit for coordinating my eyeshadow with my clothing. You will never see me in a green shirt & orange eyeshadow! :)

Yay! I’m always so happy to find others who match makeup to their clothes :)

sometimes i choose my makeup first, and then what i’m going to wear (don’t want to wind up with a green shirt and orange eyeshadow, like ariele said!!). but sometimes i pick clothes first and then makeup. but, it’s always gotta coordinate!!

Go coordinators :D There are a few times where I do my makeup and end up changing my shirt later on to match, lol!

It’s always based on what I wear. Since I prefer dark, neutral clothes for office wear, my make up is the standard dark lip/light eye, save for the special occasions when I wear a bright eyeshadow or liner. For casual clothes (which are quite very colorful) I use bright make up all the time.

Thanks for all the combos, Tonee! You definitely meant DARK LIP! I don’t even own Media/Dubonnet/Rocker (though Dubonnet has been on my list of “kind of want”).
Nice!

Depends on my mood :) Often I don’t feel like more than a quick brush of powder, a little blush, eyebrows and out the door…this goes with anything from jeans to a stylish mix. Then I have the days where my pink lipstick compliments the cute pink flowers in my skirt and I pair it with a oppisite color wheel color of green shadow. I try not to match my clothing and shadows too much, I like playing up natural colors with a little bolder lips that play well off what I wear. If I do decide to compliment my shadow with something I am wearing I try to find a color in my outfit that is a small accent color. ie – a green dress with gold buttons is perfect for gold eyes and pink lips and cheeks….but again It totally depends on my mood. I think the style that I am wearing will play more into the make-up than the colors of what I wear. A green hippie girl dress will look silly with green shadow…or any shadow for that matter….it calls for something very natural and earthy.

I feel you, Tanya! A lot of days I don’t even bother with face or eye makeup – just brows sometimes!
I love your philosophy and way you decide on what to wear makeup-wise!

Yeah mine depends on my mood that day .. some days i just like to do the natural face you know a little cover up shimmer light eye shadow and gloss… and other days i could do dark dramatic eyes with a few false lashes… it all depends on the mood and of course i have to match my outfit with my makeup, i think it really makes the colors pop when you do that.

I really like matching, too :) It’s good to hear that others do it, too! I don’t feel alone anymore!

I always have a plastic rubbermaid shoebox filled with my favorite brand of cosmetics. This is Laura Mercier and they usually have a lot of natural colors, nothing too dramatic and costumey. Next, I always leave out a few palettes that I can have in front of myself so everything is already coordinated so I don’t have to think too much when I’m tired in the morning. I keep a few extra fun items in the box for the times I’m in a hurry at night to get ready and want to jazz up my look.

There are many factors! Mostly my mood or how much time I have to get ready. Most days is just coloured liner, or just mascara and brows and gloss with a little highlighter. The new beauty powders are awesome!

I should try this colored liner trick for my lazy days!

Depends more on the time of day. I work as an engineer-which is a very conservative and man-filled work environment. It’s unprofessional to wear lots of makeup! Plus I worked in a chem lab and machine shop last, so I’d probably sweat it off (gross!) so I stick with link pinks and neutral browns for my eyeshadow, and pink lips.
However, when I’m not in school or at work, I can amp it up a bit. I use mostly pinks and browns still, but I usually apply more colour and go darker. I also will use purples, golds, greens, and teals. I think it’s sort of tacky to match, say, a green dress with green eyeshadow, but I will definately match colours to accessories :)

Oh, I know what you mean about professional! I had a job a year or so ago where we had to dress professionally, and they didn’t restrict makeup, but I felt so odd wearing brights I toned it down!

I guess it depends on my mood or where I am going as to how I choose my make up. When I got Style Minx and Ruby Woo I knew they were super bright lipcolors so I toned down my eyemake up and played up my lips the nights I wore those instead. I also love matching my eyemake up to what I’m wearing. My fav is when I wear my bright green shirt and then do green eyemake up. I work at a Starbucks and we can wear pretty neutral colors (black, white and khaki) I prefer to wear all black though and we have no limits on make up so I pretty much can wear whatever colors I want. :)
