Temptalia Asks You – Do you use spas or spa services?

Do you use spas or spa services? If yes, how often do you go or what do you go in for? If not, why haven’t you? Is it the cost that puts you off?

I have an advantage, I work at the spa. I pick one day out of the month. I usually get a massage/body wrap, facial, manicure/pedicure, and getting my hair done. It’s so relaxing! :)

That must be SO nice though! What are your favorite treatments?

I love getting the swedish massage, any of the wraps that we offer (every one of them are great), our signature facial we offer (fits every skin type), the mani/ped. with paraffin, & I get my hair colored. :) Do you get treatments done too?

I’ve only been twice, so I’m very much a newbie, lol!

I love the spa! But do find it expensive. I usually get a pedi and or mani once a month. I also go in for waxings monthly. If you ever in Asia the spa experiences are incredible and so affordable. 3 hours of papering for 30USD.I’m less likely to go in for facials are they are pricey, even though your skin looks amazing afterwards.

I agree, it can be pretty cost-prohibitive here in the states!

What are some of your favorite treatments?

Even if I’m totally broke (which is most of the time) I scrounge up money to get a facial once a month. If you go to a beauty school its no more than $20 and they do a good job. As for manicure/pedicure I usually get one for special occassions or to pamper myself, about 6 a year.

Hey Stephanie! Interesting, I’ve never thought about going to a beauty school for one.

I haven’t yet been to a spa – they are prohibitively expensive here (in India) and I’m not too happy with the service levels with the (slightly) cheaper beauty parlours. The only time I had a full spa service was just before my wedding.

They’re not too cheap here, either. They’re definitely a special occasion kind of treat for me and my budget.

I love the spa. Mani/pedi every two weeks. Facials and waxing when I can find the time.

I got a spa package for my birthday last year, massage, wrap mani/pedi facial..the whole deal. It was fantastic. I swore I was going to treat my self to at least one of those things on a somewhat regular basis…and I have never gone again! I would really love to at least get regular pedicures..they were my favorite part!

I am a Director and Professor for Spa Hospitality and Management at a Major University. I have Deep Tissue massages as often as I can to reduce and relieve stress and Facials every week because I am the face of my spas. I see spas as preventative medicine and anti-aging more than luxury. Twice a year a program called Spa Week encourages Spas across the country (US) to offer at least 3 1 hour spa treatments for $50 – check out http://www.spaweek.org to find affordable spa treatments in highend spas near you.

    Happy Spa-ing!

Thanks for the heads up about Spa Week! That could be really useful for those of us on na budget :)

What kind of treatments to you recomnend to those who are new to spas?

I definitely recommend a basic Swedish massage or basic deep cleansing facial for first timers. This is a great way to get you integrated into the world of spa and also allow you to relax a bit – plan on staying to enjoy any amenities they may offer after your service. And, don’t be shy about asking questions. That’s what their team is there for.

:( I wanna go to a spa!! deep sigh!!!

I go get a facial once a month, but that really not that fun…kinda painful….and I always get a lecture. So it helps but I wouldn’t really call it enjoyable. Plus I am such a tightwad that it would be hard for me to enjoy a spa treatment knowing how expensive it is.

Oh, how awful, that sucks that it’s painful :( I’ve only had one facial to date, but I remember it was quite soothing luckily!

Your facials should not be painful – nor should your skin care specialist be giving you a lecture – it is their job to educate not dictate. I would say do some research and find a new spa.

I go to the spa for waxing & facials. Facials are a nice treat for yourself. I wish I could go more often for other treatments, but the services are pretty pricey. It’s nice when someone gives you a spa gift card for a special occasion.

Oh wow I’m a spa junkie. Facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, waxing…I get all of them on a regular basis. Being a full-time working mom with a family, I need all the relaxation time I can get!

    • Christine

well, my face is somewhat decent ..but I know alot of pale ladies get chemical peels…and that makes your face brighter and smoother…I wanted to try that, but since I have a permanet tan…I’m not sure…it might leave my face blotchy :/.

I wanted to to try the oxygen facial.

but the only thing I get done…is my feet…once in a great blue moon my nails…they grow and holds its on.

I haven’t heard of the oxygen facial! Sounds interesting, though.

I usually go for the massages at spas. Super relaxing. Don’t go to one very often since it’s kinda expensive. Nevertheless, it’s always a treat when you get the chance!

Besides, sometimes when I see a certain friend of mine I get a Thai style massage from her. :D So yes. Free massages!

Nice :) It is definitely a treat, I think. Few of us in the US can afford regular treatments, LOL.

I love spas and their treatments! I go about once a month or every other month, depending if I have money and if I am in dire need of a massage! =) It’s relaxing and gives time for me to de-stress myself. I always get a korean style body scrub and a thai massage.
