Absolutely,In my younger days I just did not look in to the benefits and I felt that it was another reason that the make up industry could make money from, however I always wear a lip liner now,and I believe it acts as a barrier to stop any lipstick from bleeding/feathering.
Generally, people also use it to colour the whole of the lip and then they apply their lipstick on top, therefore allowing the lipstick to adhere better on their lips.It is important to have a lip liner which exactly matches your lipstick and it should be blend seamlessly.
I have used it in the traditional way as well as the way that I have described, and both ways work for me personally.
I have lip liners to match most of my lipsticks, but I also have invisible lip liners.Invisible lip liners are a superb invention, they are quite waxy and they work wonderfully well.
They also give a more professional finish to the application more so when used with a lip brush.
I would definitely recommend the use of them. The downside for some people is that when you wear a lip liner it can give the appearance of fuller lips, therefore people who already have quite full lips, may wish to give the liner a miss.I think it is important that one is comfortable with whichever way they choose.
Thank you for reading.

Let's take a giant step back for a second, sister. You have to pay taxes. You have to use an oxygen tank with a proper pressure gauge if you want to explore undersea shipwrecks. You really should vote. You do not have to wear lip liner. Not unless you really need your lip color to last. But it's not necessary. I wore my lipstick alone and im contented what it looks with lipstick alone. i don't like lip liners it makes my lips looks full. Eversince i have a meduim lips not thick, not thin either. maybe for some who has thin lips to make it fuller or want to thier lipstick last longer. but now a days there lots of long wearing lipsticks so i really need to buy a lip liner.

It seems i share the same ideas... I think its very escencial.. You can even mix diferent shades of lip liner and lipstick and create a realy nice degrade of color... I use it every day... and when i dont want a lot of color.. i use a natural L/l .. and it always makes a very nice efect.. and they dont look overdone with natural makeup..
Another good thing.. is that it makes lipsick last longer and nicer..
For example... just to mention something.. Up the Amp by Mac.. its realy hard to pull it of by itself.. you end up looking too pale.. mix it with a burgandy-berry-wine tipe of color lipliner...or a natural one.. and its wereable 100%..
And it helps to make my lips look fuller... i have small lips.. so lining a bit outside the line of my lips makes them look just rigth and defined... I love it!!!!
