Do you consider lipliner essential? Why/why not?
.
Not essential, but I see its usefulness! I’d just say I’m usually too lazy to bother with it. I am better about lip liner with really bold colors, though.

Not essential, but I do use it almost every day. I think it really helps define your lip shape. You can’t get the same accuracy and definition with a lipstick or lipbrush. (atleast imo)

I have never tried lipliner, and therefore I don’t consider it as essential, but I might try it once, maybe I’ll love it, but I think it’s too much work to get it perfect ..

I believe is not essencial, I really dont use. But when I have to pass a more colorful lipstick I have to use…
Xx.

No. Not unless I’m wearing a red lippie, which in fact is very rare for me.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
A lipliner is not essential, but it is nice to have.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I don’t use any. I don’t normally wear dark lipsticks anyway, so don’t need them.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I wear a lipliner every day, I have enough to match any color lip I choose!
Saturday, June 6, 2009
ummm no not really
i rarely use lipliner
idk why…
i’m not a lip person
i tend to forget about the lipstick too…
i’m always concentrated on my eyes.. idk
i guess its just me :)

Yes, it’s essential for me. I always use lip liner with all my glosses and lipsticks. It enhances my lip products, prevents smudges, etc.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
YES
OMG OF COURSE
I GUESS WITH THIS OBSESSION WITH “FOCUS ON THE EYE ERASE THE LIPS” PPL ARE NEGLECTING THE LIPS
LIPSTICK OR GLOSS IT’S NOT JUST “PUT IT ON AND DONE”
WHEN U USE A LIP LINER U CREATE,SCULPT, ENHANCE THE LIPS
I LUV EYES AND I ALSO LUV, LIPS ARE LIPS
ANYONE THAT DOES NOT USE IT SHOULD TRY IT, TRUST ME
MAC HAS GOOD TUTORIAL(WEBSITE) ON SCULPTING LIPS

YES!! fianlly someone who shares my opinions about how people always negelct the lips and think makeup is only about eyeshadow and bases. I do see a lot of people who think lips are just a throw away process to makeup application.
Lipliner is ESSENTIAL!!! as well as a lip prush
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I believe lip liner can do great things too, and i agree with the above posters. I’m just too lazy, and not yet good enough at applying lip liner, to do it often. I always feel I mess it up and I get self concious

It seems i share the same ideas… I think its very escencial.. You can even mix diferent shades of lip liner and lipstick and create a realy nice degrade of color… I use it every day… and when i dont want a lot of color.. i use a natural L/l .. and it always makes a very nice efect.. and they dont look overdone with natural makeup..
Another good thing.. is that it makes lipsick last longer and nicer..
For example… just to mention something.. Up the Amp by Mac.. its realy hard to pull it of by itself.. you end up looking too pale.. mix it with a burgandy-berry-wine tipe of color lipliner…or a natural one.. and its wereable 100%..
And it helps to make my lips look fuller… i have small lips.. so lining a bit outside the line of my lips makes them look just rigth and defined… I love it!!!!
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Yes! I noticed that my lips started to get pale halfway through the day (both naturally and through some foundation migration). I found some lipliner that matches the color they’re supposed to be, so it’s now an essential under my gloss.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
No, I don’t think a lipliner is essential, especially with a sheer/light lipgloss, but I do think that certain color lipsticks do look better with a liner.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
It’s essential for me because i do not have a natural lipline that stands out. Therefore, i use it always when wearing a lipstick. However, if i am just wearing gloss than liner is not as essential unless i want to change up the gloss color with it.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Nope, I tried lip liners and it is pretty much a waste of time!
Saturday, June 6, 2009
yea it’s not a big deal with me either. if i have time and am bored lol I will do it. but with bold colors it is a must.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I use a lipliner every day whethere it be a barely there nude color, pink, etc. I love the way it defines my lip and it definately makes a difference on me. I also love how you can switch up lipliners with different lipsticks to bring out the colors you want. A definate “must” for me :)
Saturday, June 6, 2009
No, and I generally do not use it at all — like you, I’m lazy. ;) But I also find my lips are well-shaped enough that I do not need liner to define their contours. The only time I do use liner is if I want to colour my lips entirely in with a certain shade and then apply gloss over it. This worked especially well with the Smashbox Wicked Lovely liner and glosses. :)
Saturday, June 6, 2009
i am lucky my lips are pretty well defined and plump so its not a necessity unless its a very rich colour or formula so there is a good transition between my skin and lip colours so its not so stark.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
For me, lipliner is an essential because my lips are quite dark so I the lipliner lightens my lips to make the lipstick more true to colour.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I use it from time to time but usually find it easier to just put lipstick on without liner :o). I do sometimes use a clear lipliner, though, with darker lipsticks, as I think dark lipsticks often look nicer with lipliner (also prevents them from bleeding). I used to use a matching lipliner when I wore red or other darker lipstick colours but I found that when the lipstick wore off, the lipliner stayed on and didn’t look that great, so I use a clear lipliner now and that does the job, without the colour sticking out.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
as someone who wears dark lipsticks, I do find it essential. If I’m weating a gloss, then I go without
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Definitely NOT essential. When I do use it, I use a blended nude liner under gloss. It just makes me look a bit more polished than the gloss alone.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I don’t consider it essential. I don’t personally use them.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Nope. I have very full, defined lips and don’t really see the need for it. My lip color doesn’t leave my lip area ever. Plus I’m only 20 so I don’t have any lines around there.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Not essential, but I think I would use a liner if I ever wore a dark lip colour, if only to make sure it didn’t bleed.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
it really depends on the shade of lipstick for me…
if i had a lipliner to match / co-ordinate with all my lipsticks/glosses, i might consider it essential, but since i don’t, i tend to use them only when wearing something very light/’nude’ or very dark/bold. i actually find it more ‘essential’ with my skintone to wear lipliner with lighter shades than with bold ones…it just neatens the lipline and pulls things together.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Absolutely essential for dark colors especially. Also I hate to keep re-applying lipstick, so I can fudge it somewhat if the liner is underneath when the l/s wears off.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
For me, no it’s not essential. I really prefer my makeup to look as natural as possible and lip liner makes me look overdone. I just stick with lipgloss.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I only feel it essential when I go out for the night or weddings and stuff because it enables me to go longer without reapplication.. But for everyday I sometimes skip bc I usually go easy on the lips (aka laziness) :-P
Saturday, June 6, 2009
It’s not an essential item; but, it’s good to have handy, if necessary.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I rarely use it. I used to use a soft red liner all the time as a lipstick, but I stopped. I think Carmex is essential, and the squeezy kind is super glossy
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Never wear lipliner unless I need the definition for photos or a special occasion. I think I was scared off by them as a kid because my mother used a dark liner for most of her life and now has a stain along the edge of her lip :S
Saturday, June 6, 2009
I think it depends on the person… If your a person who loves doing lip-looks, then of course! How can you not have lipliner as an essential! Maybe for someone who hardly does anything with lips… not so much. I, personally, think if I had more lipliners (I only have a few) to match my lipsticks I’d probably have it as an essential, maybe I should invest in more.. :)
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Lipliner has been an essential part of my routine for quite some time. My lipstick doesn’t feel complete without it. I look more polished and my lips look fuller. If necessary, I can leave the house with no lipliner and a light gloss, but I prefer to use both.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
YES, for me, lipliner is essential for 2 reasons: firstly, I am over 50, and it helps to keep lipstick and gloss from bleeding. Secondly, I have uneven-shaped upper lips – not very noticeable, but it drives me crazy (one bow is peaked and the other is rounded), so I always pencil them for symmetry. I have about 10 pencils for various lip shades. Love ‘em!
Saturday, June 6, 2009
Yes, it’s an essential for me. I wear lip liner with all my lip looks. My favorite is to wear lip liner and then a gloss over it. I also wear lip liner with all my lipsticks.
Saturday, June 6, 2009
lipliner is essential for me especially if i’m doing nude or dark vampy lips.. it also helps my lipstick last a lot longer & make sure the color of the lipstick doesn’t bleed out of the line of the lips..
Sunday, June 7, 2009
yes and no, depending on what kind of look i’m going for. and yes I agree when using strong lip colors.
Sunday, June 7, 2009
Not at all… I don’t really like lipliner. In terms of make-up and due to my age I prefer to either make the eyes or lips stand out… Most of the time I pick the eyes because I enjoy creating a look on the eyes much more. However if I was to make the lips stand out then I probably would use lipliner but I don’t see it as essential.
Sunday, June 7, 2009
As most have said already, I have naturally full lips and don’t generally need liner. I’ll use some invisible liner to prevent brighter/darker/less long lasting lipcolors from fading and bleeding, but that’s it. However, I’ve recently found invisible lipliner to be extremely helpful if I’m wearing a bright color all around the lips and need to define my corners, as the corners of my lips are a little shady and bright colors look strange if they’re not covering the entire lip. :)

i’ts not essential 4 me, but in some colors or lip shapes it kinda is
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
well i heard it plumps up your lips but i dont use it. i hate it when girls wear a different shade of lip liner and lipstick…so the 90’s!
