An All Matte Eyeshadow Palette for the Price of a Latte

The first shade is a soft white with a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft. Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away is shimmery. MAC Crystal Avalanche is also shimmery. Bobbi Brown White is very comparable. bareMinerals Cheers is frosted. bareMinerals Cumuls is starker. Inglot #373 is whiter.

The second shade is a darkened seafoam green with a matte finish. This shade had decent color payoff, but it is so soft that it has a tendency to blend away a bit. When patted on, it delivers a lot more payoff and has a less faded appearance (see photos below). Inglot #345 is lighter. Make Up For Ever #53 is much darker. Sugarpill Mochi is bluer. MAC Aqua is lighter.

The third shade is a light-medium sky blue with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, and it was soft and smooth without being powdery. Cinderella Royal is darker. Milani Olympian Blue is also darker, brighter. Maybelline Tenacious Teal is a bit darker and shimmery (and a cream). MAC Blue Candy is a touch brighter. Make Up For Ever #118 is a little lighter and brighter.

The fourth shade is a medium-dark purple with subtle red undertones. This shade had decent to good color payoff, but it was very powdery. This shade was the most powdery of the eight. MAC Plush is darker and shimmery. Milani Primary is shimmery. MAC Shock-a-holic is redder. Inglot #379 is bluer-toned.

The fifth shade is a soft, creamy beige with a matte finish. One of the best shades in the palette, this had a lovely soft, smooth texture that wasn’t powdery with excellent color payoff. Urban Decay Anonymous is similar. theBalm Adagio is very close. MAC Brule is comparable. MAC Vanilla is warmer, lighter.

The sixth shade is a faded orange with a matte finish. It had decent pigmentation, and it was the driest of the eight–surprisingly dry to the point where it was a bit stiff (which was why the color payoff wasn’t great). NARS Self Portrait 3 is darker, richer. NARS Ramatuelle is a bit more orange.

The seventh shade is a medium-dark brown with subtle red undertones and a matte finish. This shade was very sheer and a bit stiff to work with. It was the worst performing out of the eight. theBalm Presto is similar. NARS Surabaya is more orange-toned. Bobbi Brown Cocoa Berry is more burgundy. MAC Embark is darker.

The eighth shade is a dark black with a matte finish. The texture of this one was slightly dry, which resulted in just so-so color payoff. Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away is comparable. MAC Carbon is also similar.

Overall, this is palette is a mixed bag, as some of the shades were powdery and two were a bit dry/stiff (and those two were also significantly sheerer than the rest). None of the shades were so powdery that they would blend away to nothing or faded away quickly, but I recommend patting, not sweeping, them on. A little over half of the matte shades in this palette are of the softer variety, so they deposited pigment well, blended easily, but did have some fall out during application. The drier mattes have less fall out but were harder to blend and pick up pigment from.

When I wore the eyeshadows from this palette, they lasted fairly well over eight hours, but there was some fading along the edges that became noticeable after seven hours (without a primer).  Over a primer, the fading deferred for an hour–only looking a bit faded with the green and purple shades after eight hours.

	I heard a lot of raves for the original I <3 Matte palette, so I'm not sure if there were any formula changes or the like with this one, because despite the colors being the same, the quality seems to be different.

Sparkle ‘Til Morning with Wet ‘n’ Wild

Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning Eyeshadow Palette ($4.99 for 0.30 oz.) contains eight eyeshadows, and it’s a limited edition holiday palette. I found mine at CVS about two weeks ago, and there were only two in the display–both had one eyeshadow broken. I did my best to clean it up and re-press the broken eyeshadow, but you can definitely see that about half was not salvageable.

The first shade is a pale yellowed gold with a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff, and it was soft, smooth, and not powdery when used. Guerlain Calligraphy is similar. Cinderella Charming is more frosted but close in color. Buxom Poodle is close–more metallic. Giorgio Armani #18 is yellower. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is yellower, less shimmer. MAC Femme-Fi is lighter.

The second shade is a soft copper with a subtle frost finish. It had solid pigmentation and applied very smoothly. Le Metier de Beaute Goldstone is brighter, more golden. Bare Minerals Golden Iris is less orange.

The third shade is a medium-dark copper with a frosted finish. The color payoff was excellent, and it was a dream to work with; very soft, smooth, and buttery. Tarina Tarantino Dreamy is very comparable–a hair darker. MAC Brash has a stronger red undertone. MAC Double Feature 8M is similar.

The fourth shade is a blue-teal with a subtle golden shimmer-sheen. The pigmentation was decent to good, but this shade was a little powdery. I felt like I needed to layer in order to maintain the color intensity on the lid as seen in the pan. MAC Fashion Circuit is darker. Maybelline Edgy Emerald is similar, a touch greener. NYX Seafoam Green is greener. MAC Shimmermoss is a smidgen darker.

The fifth shade is a warm champagne-shimmered beige with a frosted, metallic finish. It had lovely color payoff and applied smoothly and evenly. Dior Fairy Golds is pinker. Giorgio Armani #1 Madreperla is lighter. NARS Delphes is comparable.

The sixth shade is an orange-copper with a sparkly, frosted finish. This one did have some powderiness/looseness such that it didn’t bind together completely. It’s a mix of the second and third shades within this palette, in case it seemed familiar! Urban Decay Penny Lane is a little softer. Guerlain Calligraphy is more orange. Tarina Tarantino Amber is comparable. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful is very similar. NARS Isolde is darker, more orange. theBalm Manic Maribel is rather close. I think you get the picture–there are a ton of shades that are comparable to this one! (Nearly every brand seems to have its version, which isn’t a bad thing, but you might have something like it already!)

The seventh shade is a soft, golden medium brown with a satiny sheen. It was a touch powdery, but it had good color payoff. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone had a shade that seemed similar, but it’s darker and browner–less orange tones. Cinderella Drizella is more shimmery. Dior Golden Savannah is darker.

The eighth shade is a deep, dark brown with warm red undertones and a sparkling of burgundy shimmer over a pearly finish. It had excellent color payoff, and it was easy to use on the eye. Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone, again, had something similar but not quite–it’s cooler-toned, more of a black-burgundy. MAC Carbonized is more frosted. Urban Decay Busted is more burgundy.

Overall, Sparkle ‘Til Morning is a lovely palette, and at the price point, easily forgiven for being a little powdery in places.  All in all, the pigmentation was true-to-pan across the board, and all of the shades were soft and easily blended during application.  When I wore the palette to test the wear, they lasted for eight hours without fading or creasing over a primer, and then seven hours without creasing but noticeable fading without a primer.

A Cool-Toned Holiday Palette

Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away Eyeshadow Palette ($4.99 for 0.30 oz.) contains eight eyeshadows; one column is a gradient of white to black, while the second column features cool-toned colors in pink, purple, and blue. I bought mine from my local CVS, which only had two of the palette in stock, and it is limited edition.

The white shade is a pale, icy white with a soft frosted finish. It had good color payoff, and it had a soft, blendable texture. MAC Crystal Avalanche has more frost in its finish. theBalm Sassy has more frost and is less icy. Bare Escentuals Cheers is similar but whiter–starker in a way.

The gray shade is a light-medium gray with a soft, metallic finish with a touch of silver sheen. It had so-so color payoff, but the texture was soft and finely-milled. MAC Evening Grey is darker. Guerlain Les Gris has a shade that is barely darker. Giorgio Armani #22 is more metallic. MAC Electra has a smoother finish–more of a sheen.

The dark gray shade is a soft, dark black with subtle brow undertones and a matte finish. It had decent color payoff when swatched, but it performed better on the eye. It is comparable in color to black eyeshadows such as MAC Carbon, NARS Self Portrait 1, and Illamasqua Obsidian.

The black shade is a deep, dark black with a sprinkle of teal micro-shimmer–you don’t really see the shimmer show up on the eye, so it ends up looking mostly matte. It had good pigmentation and was very blendable, which is exactly what you need when you work with such a dark black. Giorgio Armani #1 is more matte, slightly warmer. Le Metier de Beaute is darker, warmer. Milani Pitch Black is very comparable, as is MAC Dark Dare.

The lilac shade is a soft, pink-lilac with a golden shimmer-sheen. This was the “warmest” shade out of the eight. The base color is cool-toned, but the golden sheen brings in some warmth. It was true-to-pan in color, though it is a lighter shade. The texture was very soft but a smidgen powdery. MAC Creative Whim is more purple. Dolce & Gabbana Jewels is similar but doesn’t have any golden shimmer.

The fuchsia shade is a fuchsia-magenta with an iridescent purple shimmer-sheen. It had decent color payoff, but it was the least pigmented in the palette–the texture was kind of crumbly, where the powder just didn’t bind together well. MAC Stylishly Merry is darker. Urban Decay Fishnet is very close in color. MAC Stars ‘n’ Rockets is also similar.

The purple shade is a medium, cool-toned purple with a soft frosted finish. It had decent to good pigmentation, and it performed a bit better on the eye. Wet ‘n’ Wild Dancing in the Clouds has a similar shade that’s a bit cooler-toned. MAC Violet is darker, richer in color–less subdued. MAC Beautiful Iris is similar, a little more blue-based.

The blue shade is a medium-dark blue with a satiny sheen. There is a very subtle violet edge to this that keeps it from being true blue. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft and smooth without being powdery. MAC Switch to Blue is bluer. Sugarpill Velocity is brighter. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm is similar but brighter, more shimmery. MAC Atlantic Blue is darker, more vibrant, and matte.

When I was testing this palette, the only shade I had real trouble with was the fuchsia shade, because it didn’t bind together well, so there was a lot of fall out to clean-up during application, and I really had to pack it on. It was the kind of shade that you’d apply, move on, and then it would look faded before you finished the rest of your look! Wet ‘n’ Wild’s eyeshadows in this palette have a soft, dense texture that can be a smidgen powdery for the more matte-finished shades. The pigmentation was good overall, with some shades coming in just under, and a couple going above. I noticed slight fading after wearing this palette for eight hours with a base; the slight fading was apparent after seven hours when worn without a base.

P.S. — I’d love to see the palettes have names for each eyeshadow! I thought it’d be fun to try and name them, so here are mine (I’d LOVE to hear yours!): Snow Fairy, Winter’s Edge, Stormy Wind, Knight of the Vale / Morning Glory, Treasured, Icy Delights, Skyline.

	The color combination is great, and I like that there is some variety in the finishes--frosts, satins, and mattes. It is a good palette overall, and for most, the major miss (fuchsia) can be overlooked at the $3.99 price point. That blue on the bottom is worth the $3.99 alone--stunning and harder to come by.
