Urban Decay Roach Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep burgundy metallic brown.” It’s a burgundy-tinted brown with warm, reddish-orange undertones and a frosted, metallic finish. I want to call it burgundy, but there is a lot of brown present. bareMinerals Euphoria is very similar in color; it is less metallic in finish, though. Cinderella Rococo is purpler. NARS Flowers 3 #2 is less frosted but similar in color. Estee Lauder Violet Underground #2 is warmer, redder.
Roach had fantastic color payoff, and it applied very smoothly and evenly. I felt like I hardly needed to pass the brush across the pan to get the full color coverage I expected from the shade. The texture was so soft and buttery, but it was a smidgen powdery–like the tiniest bit but still felt it was worth mentioning. I didn’t see any fall out during application or later on during wear, though. The color was easy to blend out and mix with other eyeshadows. It lasted eight hours quite well, and after nine, there was a hint of fading.
Roach is easy to use and incredibly pigmented, so it is a good pick for anyone on the hunt for a warm-toned, dark brown eyeshadow with a frosted finish.

This eyeshadow had excellent color payoff–fully opaque with little product required. Scratch had a soft, buttery texture that was dense and finely-milled, but it was so soft that it was powdery–almost crumbly in a way, but incredibly fine crumbles, not large or chunky ones. I didn’t experience fall out during wear, but it’s an eyeshadow that requires some clean-up after you initially apply it, so I recommend applying it prior to laying down any base makeup. It applied with good color payoff to the lid, and it was very easy to blend out the edges. Scratch lasted for eight hours well, and after nine, there was a hint of fading present.
The major downside to this particular shade was the powdery nature of the texture. Otherwise, it had good pigmentation, wore well for eight hours, and was easy to blend.

The texture was a little dry, and the resulting color payoff was good but not excellent; when I applied it to the lid with a fluffy crease brush, I had less trouble getting better color payoff, but it did need a second layer of product to really get true-to-pan color. I wish it had been just a bit denser/more buttery, because it was also somewhat dusty, so it was prone to fading. There was some noticeable fading of the color when I wore it, though no creasing, starting at the seven hour mark. With a really fluffy brush, it works well enough, but it took extra work to blend it out if used with a firmer brush (say for applying to the lid, rather than the crease).
I wish it had been just a bit denser/more buttery, because it was also somewhat dusty, so it was prone to fading. The color payoff could have been better and more like the color in the pan.

Urban Decay SWF Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pale cotton candy pink shimmer with silver micro-glitter.” It’s a pale, light-medium pink with a frosted finish and, supposedly, silver micro-glitter. NARS Bouthan is a matte version, and it runs a bit cooler. Urban Decay Heartless has a smoother finish and is slightly gray-tinged, but the two are similar–it was actually what prompted me to see if I could get my hands on SWF for comparison! Chanel Harmonie du Soir #4 is warmer. MAC Love Power is more metallic. bareMinerals Giddy is matte and yellower. Inglot #431 is more metallic in finish but similar in color (though the reflective sheen makes it appear somewhat lighter at certain angles).
I could see the micro-glitter in the pan, but it didn’t translate when I swatched it on my skin or later on when I applied it to the eye. This is great with respect to application and wear, because I didn’t have any issues with fall out–I could not find the bits of silver glitter, period! It does mean that there’s some missing “pigment,” since it’s not translating at all. So, if you wanted glitter, you’re out of luck, and if you didn’t, you may, in fact, escape unscathed. The texture is soft, buttery, and dense; it applied smoothly and evenly, and it adhered really well. I had no trouble having it last a full nine hours without creasing or fading (no primer). It was a cinch to blend, and the color applied opaque without having to pack it on.
If you wanted glitter, you're out of luck, and if you didn't, you may, in fact, escape unscathed. Aside from the glitter not seeming to show up, it had great pigmentation and texture, along with long-wear.

Urban Decay Radium Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “peacock blue shimmer.” It’s a bold, bright medium blue with cool undertones and a frosted finish. Buxom Bulldog is a touch darker and is a cream product. NYX Kiss in Casablanca is less frosted but very similar in color. MAC Pure Creation is darker, more muted, and a cream product.
This shade was once a palette-exclusive, but when Urban Decay reformulated their eyeshadows, it made it into their permanent range. It was one of my favorite shades then, and it’s one of my favorite shades now. The texture is soft, buttery, and dense; so smooth and intensely pigmented, Radium is a dream to work with. Whether you want rich color or need to blend it out to soften, both are easily achieved. It lasted a full nine hours on me without creasing or fading.

I like the 4-pan BYOPs more than the 6-pan ones, because they’re more compact and travel-friendly, but I still find the BYOP concept to be overly bulky. I’d also much rather purchase pans of eyeshadow rather than a pot that I can pop out the first layer out of (because you could always do that, you just didn’t have a palette that fit them). I would have loved to see Urban Decay make them magnetic with a pin-sized hole on the bottom, so you could push the pan out if you wanted. I still believe that one of the appeals of having freestyle palette systems is to save on space, save on money, and be able to travel with them more readily. If you drop one of the BYOPs, it does have more security from breaking, because it is more insulated. I do, personally, like the design they chose for the actual palette; very dark, mysterious, and pretty (to me).
Moonflower (the eyeshadow) has good color payoff, a soft, smooth texture that’s dense and goes on evenly. There were a few flecks of sparkle that I saw fall out during application, and after I cleaned up, I saw a couple stray sparkles after wearing it for eight hours. I had some very light fading after wearing it (without primer) for eight hours but no creasing.
Please note: the rating for this product is purely based on the performance and quality of the eyeshadow, not the palette.
There is a little sparkle that does result in minor fall out, but it's certainly not the full rain of fall out that I get from micro-glitter shades from Urban Decay. The color isn't too orange but not brown; not quite peach either.
