Blue Eyeliners: Your Guide

This is just part of blues — I have a whole separate post planned to cover navy blues! (And teals, too.)

1. YSL #9 is a teal-tinged blue with silver sparkle.
2. bareMinerals 4AM is a medium sky blue. It has more of a sheen than MAC Hi Def Cyan. (LE)
3. Korres #13 is a periwinkle blue with a matte finish. (DC)
4. MAC Smoothblue is a darkened blue with just a hint of teal.
5. CoverGirl Blue Boom is a medium-dark blue with a soft, frosted finish. This is similar to TT Glamorous Thief and UD Deviant.
6. Tarina Tarantino Glamorous Thief is a medium-dark blue with a frosted finish. This is similar to CoverGirl Blue Boom and UD Deviant.
7. Urban Decay Radium is a medium blue with a frosted sheen. It is a bit lighter than CoverGirl Blue Booom, TT Glamorous Thief, and UD Deviant.
8. Urban Decay Deviant is a medium-dark blue with a frosted sheen. This is similar to TT Glamorous Thief and CoverGirl Blue Boom; a touch darker than both. (LE)
9. NARS Kitty is a darkened sky blue with a matte finish. Darker than MAC Hi Def Cyan and bareMinerals 4AM.
10. MAC Hi Def Cyan is a sky blue with a matte finish. It is more matte than bareMinerals 4AM, lighter than NARS Kitty.
11. MAC Artistic License is a brightened blue with a hint of teal. It is comparable to MUFE #7, TT Kanzashi, and UD Electric. (LE)
12. Make Up For Ever #7L is a brightened blue with a hint of teal with silver sparkle. It is comparable to MAC Artistic License, TT Kanzashi, and UD Electric.
13. Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi is a brightened blue with a hint of teal with silver sparkle. It is comparable to MAC Artistic License, MUFE #7, and UD Electric.
14. Urban Decay Electric is a brightened blue with a hint of teal. It is comparable to MAC Artistic License, MUFE #7, and TT Kanzashi.
15. NARS Abbey Road is a darkened teal-blue over a slightly black base.

Spring Makeup: The Fresh Bloom of Spring with Purple, Green, & Blue

One of the most important things to do when doing a look with distinct colors is to be careful not to over-blend, which is really easy, because most of us put our noses to the mirror when we’re checking to make sure we did a good job on our makeup. It’s important to take a step (or three) back, look at our work, and judge it how others are going to see us. For instance, purple and green do not make a very pretty color when blended together, so it’s important to use a light hand when layering and just barely blend so there’s no line of demarcation.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), (fuchsia-purple), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets EyeshadowMAC Lucky Green Eyeshadow (medium spring-y green), MAC Moon’s Reflection Eyeshadow (gray blue), MAC Electric Eel Eyeshadow (electric blue), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (green-toned gold), MAC Beautiful Iris Eyeshadow (iridescent purple), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), MAC Blue Herizon Liquidlast Liner (blue), Urban Decay Electric 24/7 Liner (blue-teal), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
• Cheeks: Benefit Sugarbomb (peachy-pink)
• Lips: MAC Hue Lipstick (peachy nude), MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass (coral)
• Brushes: 217 (blending brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes:

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. Using the 239, apply Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Lucky Green eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Moon’s Reflection eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Electric Eel eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Sweep Beautiful Iris eyeshadow along the inner tearduct and above the inner crease with the 217. Bring everything together by applying Electric eyeliner on the lower lash line and Blue Herizon liquidlast liner on upper lash line and then sweeping lashes with  Exceptionnel mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sugarbomb to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Hue lipstick first, and then layer Lychee Luxe lipglass for a complementing lip.

This look was from last week, pre-breakout! I was trying to do something with color, but not going over the top. I’m also trying to alternate color and basic/neutral/work-safe when I do my makeup, so I don’t just show all bright looks or all neutral looks. I’d do the latter if I had my way, LOL! Today, I’m off to spend/waste my Saturday at a simulation for my Management 101 course. I got up early so I could post this, and now I gotta get my butt into the shower and ready so I can report there on-time (hopefully!).

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Patina eyeshadow (antique gold), Shimmermoss eyeshadow (teal), Electric Eel eyeshadow (bright blue), Shroom eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Electric Liner (bright blue), Plushlash mascara (black)
• Cheeks: Enough Said blush (soft peach)
• Lips: Bombshell lipstick (pink-coral), Lychee Luxe lipglass (coral)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Enough Said = bronzer

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Patina eyeshadow using the 239 and bring in just over halfway on the lid. Darken the outer lid using Shimmermoss eyeshadow packed on and drag into crease using the 239. Darken crease with just a touch of Electric Eel eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Shroom underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Electric 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Bombshell lipstick to lips, and then top with Lychee Luxe lipglass for color and shine.

• Cheeks: Springsheen blush (soft peachy pink)
• Lips: Thrills lipstick (pink-coral), Tartlette lipglass (pink-coral)
• Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Going Bananas = Bright Sunshine; Thrills = Bombshell; Tartlette = Lychee Luxe

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Urban Decay primer potion all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, apply Going Banans eyeshadow using the 239. Apply UD Absinthe to the middle of the lid. Overlay Absinthe with Shimmermoss eyeshadow, and then darken the outer lid using Electric Eel and drag into crease using the 239. Sweep Going Bananas underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with UD Electric 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Springsheen blush using the 129. Apply Thrills lipstick to lips, and then top with Tartlette lipglass for color and shine.
