Urban Decay Underground Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “medium fawn.” It’s a medium-dark gray-tinted brown; it’s rather taupe to me, though not as cool-toned as some taupes can be. The finish has a frosted appearance with a hint of metallic sheen. MAC Caviar Dreams has a similar color but different finish. Benefit Dandy Brandy is much more of a red-toned brown than taupe. Tarina Tarantino Delightful has a warmer base. MAC Magical Mist is a bit lighter. Bare Escentuals A-Ha has a redder undertone. MAC Aloha has a redder undertone and a more metallic finish.

When I tested out the wear of Underground alone, it adhered really nicely to the lid, so I didn’t have any creasing or fading after eight hours, which is impressive for an eyeshadow without a primer! I love the texture of the Deluxe Eyeshadows, because it’s so soft, buttery, and dense. The color payoff is lovely with a smooth, even finish. These eyeshadows are also almost twice as big as the regular ones for just a buck more.

The plastic part of the lid tends to fall off, though, and it’s a problem I’ve had consistently with the Deluxe Eyeshadows, unfortunately. The lid itself consists of the actual lid mechanism and lid, but there’s a clear plastic lid that clicks over that to protect the design (which is printed on paper), and that is the piece that falls off–so your shadow stays intact, but it’s still frustrating.

Urban Decay Ransom Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “vibrant iridescent purple.” It’s a medium-dark blue-based violet purple with a frosted finish. MAC Pink Union is warmer, less blue-based. Urban Decay Blue Bus is bluer. MAC Parfait Amour is comparable but has more of an iridescence. Inglot #379 is a matte version. Urban Decay Ecstasy is less blue-based.

The Deluxe Eyeshadow is one of my favorite formulas, because it’s dense, silky smooth, and feels like butter against the skin.  Ransom is not the best example of the formula, though, because it doesn’t have the really rich color payoff that comes with this range.  The pigmentation is good (and it may even be great for a purple shade, generally speaking), but it falls short of excellence.  It doesn’t apply quite as smoothly as the rest of the range either.  When I wear this shade alone, it holds on well, and there wasn’t any creasing or fading after eight hours.  One of my favorite things about the Deluxe Eyeshadow range is that they’re nearly double the size of Urban Decay’s regular Eyeshadows at only a dollar more.

	Purple eyeshadow has a tendency to under-performing when it comes to color payoff, and this is definitely a shade that it is better than many other purples I've come across, but it doesn't excel like other shades in the Deluxe Eyeshadow range.

Urban Decay Honey Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “glistening gold.” It’s a rich, luxurious yellowed gold with hints of antique gold and a softly frosted finish. NARS Paramaribo is darker, more burnished. Make Up For Ever #11 is cooler-toned, less yellowed. Le Metier de Beaute Chameleon is browner, less golden. Inglot #404 is more coppery. Inglot #430 is brighter but the closest.

It’s part of Urban Decay’s Deluxe Eyeshadow range, which has a denser, softer texture compared to their regular formula, so it feels very buttery. The pigmentation is excellent, and it requires very little product to achieve smooth, even results. When worn alone, it adheres well and lasts for eight hours without creasing or fading. Over a primer, I have no wear issues for as long as twelve hours. Bonus: this is almost double the size of Urban Decay’s regular formula but at almost the same price!  The only downside is I find the packaging of the Deluxe Eyeshadows to be flimsy–the plastic lid tends to pop off the top of the compact easily.

	It's a beautiful color that will flatter hazel and green eyes immensely--it will also work other eye colors, too, but those two especially. It's a warm, almost dirty, gold, that pairs well with other browns, warm coppers, and olive greens.

Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow Peace ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) describes this as a “shimmering turquoise,” though I’d describe it as a brightened sky blue on me. It’s the color of turquoise beads, which are rather blue, so depending on your interpretation of turquoise, this may be more or less what you expect. With a Deluxe Eyeshadow finish, it’s ultra smooth, almost creamy (but it is a powder), and highly pigmented.

It’s like a shimmery version of Urban Decay Electric, as well as a slightly darker Painkiller. Inglot #415 has a golden sheen, which gives it less of a true blue look. Make Up For Ever #83 is a darker blue.

The downside to this product was actually the packaging–the clear, plastic lid that covers the top of the eyeshadow compact keeps popping off.

	Other than the packaging issue, this is a fantastic eyeshadow (which, ultimately, is what counts) -- great texture, color payoff, and blendable. It's a fun color to work with, because it's a lighter blue than most brands put out.

Urban Decay Shag Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “tan shimmer.” It’s a softened, coppery bronze with a frosted, metallic sheen. The texture is smooth, almost buttery, and the color payoff is amazing–rich, true-to-pan color in a single pass. It’s a warmer color, which means it may turn a little orange on cooler skin tones. It’s darker and more copper than Urban Decay Blaze. Milani’s Fusion is similar but not quite as intense.

I do find the packaging of Urban Decay’s Deluxe Eyeshadows to be a little bulky, and I have four or five where the clear plastic lid falls off easily (but the actual part of the lid that protects the eyeshadow and is hinged to the bottom has always been intact).  On the other hand, you get nearly double the amount of eyeshadow most brands give–even the standard Urban Decay Eyeshadows are only 0.05 oz. as compared to the Deluxe Eyeshadows at 0.09 oz.

	Urban Decay's Deluxe Eyeshadows really combine texture with color payoff (more often than not, at least), and Shag is easy to work with because of the soft, smooth powder and high pigmentation. The packaging is the only misstep, but it's likely not a deal-breaker for most.

Wake-up Tired Eyes with a Scratch

Urban Decay Scratch Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a shimmering pink champagne with a frosted metallic shine. It’s smooth, pigmented, and easy to blend. I would say it’s a touch too pigmented and metallic to work as a brow highlighter, but I love it as a lid shade. It’s a hue that brightens well without being overwhelming. I recommend just patting it on the lower lid and buffing upwards so it fades into the crease for a quick, one-minute kind of look. It pairs well with Urban Decay’s bronzes and peaches, too.
