Urban Decay Naked 1 vs. Naked 2 Palette Dupes & Comparison Swatches

• Foxy doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
• Half Baked is a repeat from Naked 1, so yes, there is a dupe–in fact, it’s 100% the same!
• Booty Call is a peachier version of Virgin (Naked 1), but they’re really, really close. It’s just slightly warmer.
• Chopper is more orange than Sidecar (Naked 1); I wouldn’t say they’re dupes, but they’re not totally different.
• Tease doesn’t have any dupes, because it’s matte, so it doesn’t really appear the same as contenders like Sin and Toasted (both from Naked 1).
• Snakebite is not as golden as Smog (Naked 1), but it’s nowhere near as dark as Darkhorse (Naked 1); however, if you mix both Smog and Darkhorse together, you get something rather similar.
• Suspect is just a little more beige compared to Sidecar (Naked 1).
• Pistol doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
• Verve doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.
• YDK looks pretty similar to both Sidecar and Toasted (both from Naked 1), and Sidecar is closer.
• Busted is very, very similar to Hustle (Naked 1); at best, it might be a little less red-toned. It’s not like Darkhorse (Naked 1), though.
• Blackout doesn’t have any comparable shades in Naked 1.

LOVE! this palette.  The three neutrals look amazing together, but due to popular request, I had to incorporate Woodstock somehow!

You will need the following…

• Eyes:  Urban Decay Greed Primer Potion (gold base), Urban Decay Woodstock Eyeshadow (fuchsia), Urban Decay Verve Eyeshadow (muted taupe brown), Urban Decay Suspect Eyeshadow (muted champagne bronze), Urban Decay Darkhorse Eyeshadow (dark bronze), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Whiskey 24/7 Liner (warm dark brown), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140)
• Cheeks: MAC Giggly Mineralize Blush (pinky plum)
• Lips: Guerlain Cherry Blossom Rouge Automatique (deep rose)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 263 (angled eyeliner brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
• Substitutes: Verve = MAC Retrospeck (for this look), Suspect = theBalm All About Alex; Darkhorse = MAC Bronze; Giggly = MAC Plum Foolery

For eyes, start by applying Greed as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249.  Apply Verve eyeshadow to the inner third of the eye with the 239.  Next, apply Suspect eyeshadow to the middle third of the eye, going above the crease.  Apply Darkhorse eyeshadow just above the crease and into the outer corner with the 222.  With the edge of the 239, apply Woodstock eyeshadow to the outer two-thirds of the crease.  Use Trench eyeshadow to highlight the brow bone and diffuse the crease color with the 217.  Apply Whiskey liner on the lower lash line.  Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply Giggly blush on the apples of the cheeks and pat towards the temple with fingers.

For lips, apply Cherry Blossom for a complementing lip.

Urban Decay Rollergirl Summer 2011 Palette

Urban Decay Rollergirl Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00) contains four eyeshadows, minature lipgloss, and miniature eyeliner. These include: Woodstock (bright pink with sligh shimmer), Verve (pearly oyster), Suspect (oyster with dimensional shift), Darkhorse (bronze patina), Crush (bright hot pink), and Whiskey (dark brown). Each eyeshadow contains 0.04 oz., while the lipgloss contains 0.12 fl. oz and the eyeliner is 0.03 oz. The palette contains $54.40 worth of eyeshadow, $6.70 worth of lipgloss, and $12.75 worth of eyeliner. The total value of the palette is $73.85.

• Woodstock is a dark fuchsia pink with a soft frost finish. Very pigmented, super smooth. This is permanently available.
• Verve is a pale, muted taupe brown–like a lighter Mushroom. This is an exclusive shade to this palette.
• Suspect is a muted champagne bronze with a frost finish. This shade was in the Book of Shadows, Vol. III.
• Darkhorse is a dark, sultry bronze shimmered brown. This shade was in the Naked and Feminine palettes.
• Crush is a semi-sheer magenta pink. It’s almost like magenta met bubblegum pink, and then they had a lovechild. This is permanently available. For a full review of the formula, please see my original review.
• Whiskey is a medium-dark, warm-toned brown. This shade was originally available with the Naked palette and is currently available as part of an eyeliner duo (with Flipside).

It is similar to last summer’s palette release called Summer of Love, which was in the same format, but instead of a lip gloss, had a miniature-sized primer. It retailed for $29, so I expect pricing to be around there. As soon as I have pricing/availability information, I’ll be sure to update this post!

	Urban Decay always puts out really pretty palettes, from the color selection to the way they do the packaging. The palette has repeats as many of Urban Decay’s palettes often do, which is definitely a drawback for long-time fans. For those new to the brand, it’s a nice neutral palette with a hot pink kick. If you’re just into neutrals though, you may want to consider the Naked palette if you have $48 to spend.

Urban Decay Spring 2011: Feminine Palette

Urban Decay Feminine Eyeshadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.34 oz.) includes six eyeshadows: Stray Dog (cool medium brown), SWF (light cotton candy pink with silver micro-glitter), Midnight Cowboy (pink champagne with lots of silver glitter), Aquarius (aqua green with shimmer), Darkhorse (bronze patina), and Ecstacy (bright purple with slight pink tint). Also included is Zero 24/7 Liner (black) and Eden primer potion (nude).

• Stray Dog is a cool-toned, taupe-tinged dark brown with a frost finish. This shade is part of the permanent range and available individually; it has also been in the Foreshadow palette.
• SWF is a pale cotton candy pink with a bright metallic-frost sheen. This shade is part of the permanent range and available individually.
• Midnight Cowboy is a gilded champagne bronze with flecks of champagne glitter. It has less fall out than Midnight Cowboy Rides Again, but it still has plenty of it to make one frustrated. This shade is part of the permanent range and available individually; it was also in the Cowboy Junkie set.
• Aquarius is a pale aqua green teal with a silver metallic sheen. This shade is part of the permanent range and available individually.
• Darkhorse is a darkened deep chocolate brown with flecks of bronze. This shade was in the Naked palette and is not available individually.
• Ecstacy is a brightened, medium cool-toned violet purple with a soft frost finish. This shade is part of the permanent range and available individually; it was also in the Book of Shadows, Vol. 2. By the by, marginally annoyed that ecstasy is misspelled–imagine it was deliberate but find it annoying nonetheless! It is spelled correctly in the actual BoS Vol. 2, though…

my thoughts on the formula: Urban Decay’s eyeshadows are rich in pigment, apply evenly, and feel like butter. Generally speaking, their formula is excellent. I will warn and caution you against their shades with “glitter” or “sparkle” in the finish–some of these can be prone to fall out (for example, Midnight Cowboy Rides Again).

In terms of value, the palette includes 0.18 oz. of eyeshadow ($61.20 value), 0.03 oz. of eyeliner ($12.75 value), and 0.13 fl. oz. of primer potion ($6.88 value). The total value of the palette is $80.83, while the retail price is $34.

I think sometimes we lose sight of what the beauty industry and market are like as a whole — not every person purchases every palette or even much at all.  Not everyone enters at the same time, so even though you may find yourself owning many of the shades, it doesn’t make it a terrible product – Urban Decay does some really excellent shades that you can get year round, but these sure make those shades more accessible and affordable to people who don’t have a lot of Urban Decay or have always wanted to try it.  It would be great to see new shades, of course, but I recognize what value they may hold to others.

final thoughts: In this palette, only Midnight Cowboy is the finicky shade, while five of the six are lovely.  Only Darkhorse is not available individually, but at least a couple shades here haven’t been in half a dozen palettes previously.  As long as you love at least two shades (and like one or two others), then it works out to be a deal, since two eyeshadows will run you $34 if purchased individually.

My Special Occasion Look: Red Lips

I don’t know why, but one of my go-to looks for a special occasion is red lips paired with a gold eyeshadow look. I didn’t have much time, so I only snapped a couple of photos of this look. I’m also still mad that Ore photographs so blah relative to how TA-DA it is in person.  Hope you’re having a beautiful Tuesday!

You will need the following…

• Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), Illamasqua Ore Pure Pigment (shimmering gold-bronze), Urban Decay Darkhorse Eyeshadow (dark bronze), Urban Decay Virgin Eyeshadow (highlighter), Make Up For Ever #10L Aqua Eyes Liner (bronze), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
• Face: Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation (02), Guerlain Voilettes Loose Powder (03)
• Cheeks: Korres #15 Natural Blush (pink-brown)
• Lips: Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque (red), Chanel Exces Extrait de Gloss (sheer red)
• Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Ore pure pigment on the entire lower lid to cover.  Then, apply Darkhorse eyeshadow into the crease and blend outwards and on outer third of the lid with the 226.  Diffuse the crease color by applying Virgin eyeshadow above to highlight the brow bone with the 217.  Apply #10L liner on the lower lash line and finish lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.

For cheeks, apply #15 blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Dragon Rouge Allure Laque first, and then layer Exces Extrait de Gloss for a complementing lip.
