Urban Decay Eyeshadow Swatches (Part 2)

Here are ten more Urban Decay Eyeshadow Swatches!   The Swatch Gallery is really starting to come together, and just seeing all of the swatches show up makes all of the re-swatching completely worth it.

• Aquarius is a muted blue with a gray overcast and frosted sheen.
• Blaze is lightened coppery brown with a soft, metallic sheen.
• Blunt is a medium golden yellow with a soft, frosted finish.
• Chronic is a medium-dark grass green with subtly cool undertones and a matte finish.
• Ecstasy is a medium-dark violet purple with a soft sheen.
• Electric is a bright, cyan blue with a matte finish.
• Fishnet is a fuchsia pink with purple iridescence. This is a deluxe eyeshadow.
• Freakshow is a deep, dark purple with subtle red undertones and a pearly finish. This is a deluxe eyeshadow.
• Frigid is a dark, blue-purple with a pearly finish. This is a deluxe eyeshadow.
• Gash is a coppered red with a soft, frosted finish.

Urban Decay Eyeshadows are some of my favorites–they are typically very pigmented, smooth, buttery, and blendable.  The only shades to watch for are any that have the word “glitter” or “sparkle” in the description, because they tend to have a micro-glitter that just doesn’t bind with the color base, which means it either disappears between brush and lid (best case scenario) or you end up with a sparkly under eye (worst case scenario). Their matte finishes are soft and finely milled, but a note on application, these are so blendable that it’s easy to overdo it.

Ecstasy was the biggest miss here–it’s a little sheer and soft, you just can’t get as much color out of it as you should.  Frigid also seems to be lacking some color payoff, but it isn’t as sheered out as Ecstasy.   If you’re looking for more Urban Decay swatches, you can check out our full Urban Decay Eyeshadow Swatch Gallery!

Going Green with Urban Decay, Part 1

Urban Decay Chronic Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a near-matte grass green shade.  What’s interesting about the matte formula is that you can see little specks of shimmer/glitter, but when you use it (whether just to swatch or on the lid), none of the shimmer/glitter shows up.   It’s almost like a very, very near-matte eyeshadow with perhaps the slightest pearl sheen.   I used it a couple of weeks ago in my St. Patrick’s Day look, and I really found it surprisingly easy to work with.  It blended nicely, and it didn’t look chalky at all (which is often an issue with matte textures) nor was it dusty.  I also got a good level of color intensity without having to pack on the eyeshadow, and with a color like that, I’m definitely looking for that richness of color.

I actually think the packaging is well-done, too.  I feel like the case goes above and beyond the typical eyeshadow compact, because Urban Decay makes it uniquely theirs.  It’s functional without being flimsy or cheap, but it still looks fun and totally fits with the brand’s image.  Of course, I’d love Urban Decay to sell empty palettes and allow you to customize your own, but they do put out eyeshadow palettes throughout the year, so there is always that, I suppose!

I do want to say that I haven’t tried any of the other shades in this formulation, so my review is truly for this shade only! The Matte Eyeshadow formula is also available in: ABC Gum (pale peach), Cult (eggplant), Electric (electric blue), Foxy (light neutral), Heist (dusty purple), Illegal (smoky rose), Naked (buff nude), Narcotic (bright turquoise), Perversion (jet black), Purple Haze (bright purple), Revolver (stone gray), Secret Service (medium brown), Shakedown (taupe), and Yeyo (powder white).

St. Patricks Day Makeup: Green-a-palooza!

Happy St. Patricks Day! Here’s a wicked-to-the-bone green look for ya! What’s everyone doing to celebrate?  Oh, by the way?  Glitter doesn’t show up nearly as fun in the photos as it was in person.  I put the glitter on my lashes, lower lash line, and upper lash line and it reflected so prettily… I was like, “OOH!!” but then I was cropping the photos to post and was less ooh-ahh about it.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion (eyeshadow base), MAC True Chartreuse Pigment (matte chartreuse), MAC Sunny Spot Eyeshadow (satin chartreuse), Urban Decay Graffiti Eyeshadow (bright grass green), Urban Decay Chronic EyeshadowMAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (matte light green), (green-gold), Urban Decay Acid Rain Liquid Liner (chatreuse), Urban Decay Mullet Glitter Eye Liner (green), Urban Decay Graffiti 24/7 Liner (green), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Setting Powder
• Cheeks: MAC Refined Golden Bronzer (bronzer), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronze highlighter)
• Lips: MAC Crosswires Lipstick (coral), MAC Instant Gold Lustreglass (gold shimmer)

For eyes, start by applying Primer Potion as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply True Chartreuse pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Sunny Spot eyeshadow on the middle of the eyelid. Next, apply Chronic eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the middle. Darken the outer third of the lid with Graffiti eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Graffiti eyeshadow, with the 239, into the crease. Lightly tap and brush Sunny Spot eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. On the upper lash line, apply Acid Rain liquid liner and then overlay with Mullet glitter eyeliner for sparkle. Bring everything together by applying Graffiti eyeliner on the lower lash line and Sunny Spot eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush then overlay with Mullet glitter eyeliner. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Refined Golden bronzer to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheekbones with Amber Diamond skin shimmer with the 165.

For lips, apply Crosswires lipstick first, and then layer Instant Gold lustreglass for a complementing lip.
