Tom Ford Blush Nude Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is an opaque, soft pink beige with a creamy consistency and a barely-there sheen. It has warm, subtly yellow undertones. MAC Playing Koi is pinker. Estee Lauder Wild Blossom is more beige. Chanel Ming is less beige, pinker. MAC Myth is lighter, paler–Blush Nude is more wearable. MAC Innocence, Beware! is lighter, pinker, less warm. MAC Woo Me is a bit darker and glossier. MAC Naked Bliss is a smidgen darker and more beige. Maybelline Born With It is very close, slightly sheerer.

There are a lot of similar shades on the market–I find this to be true with a lot of Tom Ford’s lipsticks, which makes it harder to justify such an extravagant price tag. It doesn’t take away from the quality of the product itself, of course. The formula is good: creamy, opaque, comfortable to wear, and lasts a good while (Blush Nude wore for five hours).  It’s somewhat moisturizing, but it’s not the most hydrating lipstick on the market (though it wears longer than most more moisturizing formulas).  There is a lightly sweetened vanilla scent but no taste. The lipstick is housed in a brown and gold, square-shaped tube with the logo carved into the slant of the bullet.

The Glossover

	This is an easy-to-wear nude--it's lightly pinked, so it's not stark and "corpse" colored, and the underlying warmth brightens the complexion. It's opaque, creamy, and wears for five hours.

Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a reddened plum with a cream finish and a natural shine. NARS Christina is redder and has a golden shimmer. Guerlain Rose Bengale is slightly brighter and has pale pink shimmer. MAC Red Dwarf is more berry, less pink. MAC Positively Dashing is slightly darker and pinker. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is brighter and pinker. Hourglass Nocturnal is very similar but a little redder. Dior Ruby is a touch darker. MAC Offshoot is browner. MAC Craving is very similar. Maybelline Bit of Berry is a little lighter and pinker.

As you can see, there are numerous shades that are similar to this one; some shades are a little redder, others are a bit pinker, and a few are fairly close. Casablanca has good color coverage, as it applied opaque and hides my lip freckle quite well. It has a creamy, smooth consistency that enables it to glide on evenly and easily. Even though it has opaque color and a creamy feel, it doesn’t sit heavily on the lips. It’s comfortable to wear, and it wears well–a solid five hours–while lightly moisturizing the lips.

Tom Ford’s lipstick range is vanilla-scented but doesn’t have any discernible taste. It comes in a square tube with gold metal accents and brown “paneling” on the exterior of the tube. I like that the outer tube doesn’t hold fingerprints, and there’s a satisfying click when you close the lipstick, so it stays together better if you toss it around in a bag. The brand’s logo is cut into the tip of the lipstick.

The Glossover

	Tom Ford has a really good lipstick formula, though I have found the range to be more dupeable than not in terms of color. Depending on your needs, you may aspire to own something more unique at this price point. It's a very wearable shade, though, and it wears well.

The Sultry Season: Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge Lipstick

Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge Lip Color ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a reddened plum with subtle fuchsia micro-shimmer.  It is nearly opaque, but you can see my lip freckle peeking through just slightly.  There’s a nice glossy shine while the lipstick itself is creamy and applies like a dream.  All of Tom Ford’s lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free, and I get about five or six hours of wear with darker shades like Moroccan Rouge.

Tom Ford Bruised Plum Lip Color ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, reddened plum with subtle pink, fuchsia, and ruby micro-shimmer.  It goes on opaque, and it’s the most glistening/shimmering shade I’ve tried so far.  It does settle a bit into lip lines, but from a normal viewing distance, it’s really not noticeable.  This is a shade that stains very well and wears for four to five hours with a lingering stain for an additional two or so.  It’s vampy without being too blackened but not too much of a red shade either.  I can definitely see this being a perfect shade for fall.

Tom Ford’s Private Blend Lip Color collection are all vanilla scented and come in a white and gold square tube. It’s a very clean and elegant look, and the tube itself is weighty, so it feels more luxurious when you hold it in your hand. I like that the usage of the white paneling means no fingerprints, since that is a common problem when brands use more metallic/metal kind of packaging. The top and bottom are both “gold,” with the top having “Tom Ford” imprinted on it. It does click shut and stay closed well.

The formula itself is creamy and lightweight–it doesn’t feel slippery or nearly as creamy as YSL Rouge Voluptes, nor does it glide on as smoothly and effortlessly as Guerlain Rouge Gs. Tom Ford’s color range is full with twelve different shades ranging from nudes to deep plums. The textures of Tom Ford’s lipsticks are semi-matte–they’re not shimmery at all–and so they have a smidgen of sheen/glisten but overall, a much flatter finish.

Come August, I might have more possible dupes to share, since that will kick off the Sultry Season (all about vampy lip colors!), but for now, MAC’s Hang Up is the closest I’ve found–it’s a little lighter, not as shimmery.  These are all the Tom Ford shades I have to share with you for now, but I hope it’s given you a nice introduction to the range.

Tom Ford True Coral Lip Color ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a devilishly bright true coral.  It is as it is named!  It’s a vibrant coral that leans a little orange, but overall, it’s exactly what I envision coral being in its purest form.  Like the other shades I’ve reviewed so far, the color itself is rich and true-to-tube.  Just one layer and you get a very opaque look.  It also wears well throughout the day, giving me around four to five hours of wear and a bit of a lingering stain for another hour or so.

The two closest, possible dupes I found were Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss (different finish) and MAC Vegas Volt Lipstick (lighter, less bright, more orange).

Tom Ford Pure Pink Lip Color ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a tantalizingly bright fuchsia pink with a satin-matte finish.  It might have the most subtle dusting of shimmer in it, but it’s really hard to make a clear distinction.  It’s almost like shimmer dust–maybe even fairy dust, since I’m not entirely sold that I’m not just seeing things…  The pigmentation is excellent with full-color coverage in one to two layers (depending on your application technique).

This shade wears very, very well, particularly because it’s a much darker/deeper shade than Pink Dusk.  The majority of the color lasts four to five hours, but a fuchsia stain persists for a couple more after that.  I like that it’s long-wearing without feeling drying.   With Pure Pink, it is more of a blue-based pink, so it suits those with cooler complexions best, but if you have a warmer complexion, I still think it would work.
