The best thing to do is go outside and look at what products you’re thinking of wearing to make sure everything matches/coordinates. Then, when you’re in the space with the less-than-stellar lighting, concentrate on texture and light/dark–pay less attention to the color as you are whether everything is fading to the right gradient, edges are softened, etc.

For intense lip products, I like makeup remover wipes, because it takes it right off and there is no scrubbing involved. For intense eye looks, I like dual-phase removers like Lancome Bi-Facil, because it gets everything off without a fuss. Generally, I use a cleansing oil (like shu uemura’s), which works well to get most makeup off (even intense eye or lip makeup) but may not get into the nooks and crannies.

I haven’t used self-tanner in years, mostly because I’m already medium in color and I tan super, super quick during the summer (even with sunscreen!). I just don’t have the patience or desire to work with self-tanner. Besides, it’s so cold out, I’m always wearing pants or tights!
