8 Ways to Wear Teal Eyeshadow

MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow is an absolutely stunning shade of teal in the pot, and it is such a hard color to resist picking up–even if you’re not sure what to pair it with. It’s vibrant, richly pigmented, and has such a nice tone to it.

Bright Chartreuse Green

Apply a bright pop of chartreuse, like MAC Bitter eyeshadow, all over the lid with a fluffy brush like the 239. Pat the teal eyeshadow, like MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow, in the outer crease with a crease brush like the 226. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft yellow-based highlighter, like MAC Nylon eyeshadow.

Icy White

Try applying a light white or frosty white, like MAC Blanc Type eyeshadow, all over the lid with a fluffy brush like the 239. You can also opt for a MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow in the crease and on the lower lash line to tie the two together. Add a bit of blue-green like MAC Bottle Green eyeshadow to add depth to the crease. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Phloof! eyeshadow.

Soft Sky Blues

When paired with softer blues, MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow ends up looking bluer rather than as green-teal as it can. One of my favorite ways to do this is by applying a light silvery-blue like Surreal eyeshadow all over the lid. I layer a medium blue like MAC Mutiny pigment on the middle-to-outer portion of the lid. Gently, I tap MAC Freshwater eyeshadow into the outer crease, but very subtly so only add a bit of depth without adding excessive darkness. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Phloof! eyeshadow.

Open Up Peepers

Teal doesn’t have to be scary, and it doesn’t always have to be blended away. Using MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow to line the lower lash line can add a lot of color without going overboard. You can also feather it over your upper lash liner – like accenting black by making it teal-black instead. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Shroom eyeshadow.

Royal Purples

MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow is very much jewel-toned in a way, so it works really well with other vibrant, jewel-tone shades like violets and rich purples. I love using MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow all over the lid, tying in MAC Parfait Amour eyeshadow on the outer crease, and using MAC Contrast eyeshadow to really darken up the crease and smoke out the look. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Nylon eyeshadow.

Just Blues

In addition to sky blues, I also think MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow pairs well with deeper blues, too. Try MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow all over the lid, and then apply MAC Freshwater eyeshadow to the outer corner and into the outer crease. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Nylon eyeshadow.

Browned Down

To help make a look a little less colorful/bright, I try pairing it with browns. Browns tend to run more neutral, so often it softens a look in place of a bolder color like bright blues. Try MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow on the outer lid, and then pair a soft brown like MAC Mylar eyeshadow on the inner portion of the lid. Apply a dark brown like MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow to the outer crease and blend well. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Shroom eyeshadow.

Golden Hues

Golds can really help make your teal eyeshadow pop. Try applying a gold color to the inner third of the lid, like MAC Goldmine eyeshadow. To the middle of the lid, apply a light wash of teal using MAC Shimmermoss eyeshadow. On the outer lid, layer the teal over itself to increase the pigmentation. Use a matte navy blue, like MAC Naval eyeshadow, in the outer crease to add depth. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with a soft highlighter, like MAC Shroom eyeshadow.

Yesterday, I was SO excited! Why? Because I applied false eyelashes for the first time to myself without it taking all day long. False eyelash application is most definitely an area where I lack expertise in (I can tell you all the tricks–I just can’t get them to work for me!), and one of the issues is I just can’t afford to spend an hour fussing with applying them. I don’t even just sit down and watch TV — I’m writing posts or taking photos or going through notes! I am just hoping maybe it’s all finally clicked for me, and I’ll be able to replicate my success next time, LOL!

I’d also like to add that in this look, I am using Korres’ Watermelon Lightweight Tinted Moisturizer SPF30 (you can expect a review later, but just for reference!). The pictures make it look a bit dewy, but I think that’s just me hot after blow-drying my hair. All in all, though, this is one of my favorite looks I’ve done lately, maybe overall, too Hope you like it!

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Mutiny pigment with water-based mixing medium on the lower lid. On the inner lid, pack Mutiny pigment on using the 239. Apply Parrot eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Moon’s Reflection eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Atlantic Blue eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Prussian eyeshadow. Sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Flipside Liner on lower lash line, and Blacktrack fluidline on the upper lash line using the 209. Apply #7 lashes to upper lash line, then lightly apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Brave New Bronze lipstick to lips, and then top with Goldyrocks dazzleglass for color and shine.

Shimmermoss eyeshadow is my absolute favorite teal eyeshadow. It’s vibrant, pigmented, and it goes on effortlessly. It blends easily with other shades (especially golds and blues), and I’ve used it so much and yet it doesn’t even have much of a dip in it–that’s how rich in color it is.

Steamy eyeshadow is kind of a dirty green-teal color. I find it to be in the teal family, but it definitely has green undertones to it. I like it for its duality.

Newly Minted eyeshadow is a matte finish semi-dusky teal. It’s quite “minty” in a way. While my all-time favorite Melody eyeshadow (long discontinued) holds my heart in this type of teal, Newly Minted is a very close runner-up.

Aquadisiac eyeshadow is a light, glittery aqua-teal shade. It’s one of the lightest teal colors MAC has come out with, and it is definitely a must if you like to wear teals or blues.

This look was from last week, pre-breakout! I was trying to do something with color, but not going over the top. I’m also trying to alternate color and basic/neutral/work-safe when I do my makeup, so I don’t just show all bright looks or all neutral looks. I’d do the latter if I had my way, LOL! Today, I’m off to spend/waste my Saturday at a simulation for my Management 101 course. Darken crease with just a touch of Electric Eel eyeshadow using the 239. Sweep Shroom underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Electric 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Bombshell lipstick to lips, and then top with Lychee Luxe lipglass for color and shine.
