Sugarpill Eyeshadows ($12.00 for 0.14 oz., each) currently has a range of thirteen permanent shades, which I have covered as they’ve been released. Because the initial launch was a few years ago, I’ve been wanting to re-do swatches so that they can be included in the Swatch Gallery (which requires everything be shown individually). This morning, I was like, “DO IT!” And so it has been done. I’ve also included four shades that were more recently released in the Heartbreaker palette (which didn’t need to be redone) for completion. Note that the photos of the eyeshadow pans are old (just updated the swatches).  (There is also @#$%!, which was a limited edition shade, but need to take full photos of it prior to swatching, as I’ve never used it before!)

• 2AM is a pink-plum with a very subtle satin finish (looks mostly matte applied).
• Acidberry is a light-medium green with yellow undertones and a satin finish.
• Afterparty is a medium blue with a cool undertones and a frosted finish.
• Bulletproof is a black with a matte finish.
• Buttercupcake is a brightened, medium yellow with a matte finish.
• Dollipop is a bold, fuchsia pink with a matte finish.
• Flamepoint is a bright, red-toned orange with a matte finish.
• Love+ is an orange-toned red with a matte finish.
• Midori is a subtly cool-toned, medium-dark green with a pearly sheen.
• Mochi is an aqua blue with a subtle satin shimmer over a matte finish.
• Poison Plum is a deep purple-plum with strong red undertones and a matte finish.
• Tako is a white with a matte finish.
• Velocity is a bold, cobalt blue with a satin finish.

Sugarpill is a fantastic brand, and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the creatrix behind the brand, Amy, and she is as fun in person as she seems online. It’s a brand that you can tell takes their time to development new products and shades; that has a goal in mind and doesn’t waver from it. I very much remain impressed by Sugarpill’s range and how they’ve grown over the years. If you like bolder shades, definitely consider their pressed eyeshadows, which tend to be bold, bright, and have mostly matte finishes.

You’ll notice that all of the shades have good pigmentation, with some being incredibly intense and others being mostly opaque. Many of them will stain if applied over bare skin, so I recommend applying over a primer which will bridge the gap between 90% opacity and 100% as well as minimize the potential to stain. They have a soft, finely-milled texture that blends easily and smoothly. Not so soft that they turn powdery, but not dry or stiff so they aren’t problematic to blend. When worn alone, I get eight to nine hours of wear without fading or creasing; with primer, I’ve seen wear as long as twelve hours.

Bright Makeup: Hot Pink Smoky Eyes

Go fierce or go home! Dark, sultry smoky eyes with a hot pink edge paired with equally in-your-face pink lips.

You will need the following…

• Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC Fuchsia Pigment (fuchsia), Sugarpill Dollipop Eyeshadow (matte fuchsia pink), Sugarpill Bulletproof Eyeshadow (matte black), MAC Stars ‘n Rockets Eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple), MAC Beautiful Iris Eyeshadow (iridescent icy purple), MAC Blacktrack Fluidline (black liner), Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner (purple), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
• Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Setting Powder
• Cheeks: MAC Sculpt Sculpting Powder (dark nude), MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder (soft champagne-peach)
• Lips: MAC Petals & Peacocks Lipstick (hot pink), MAC True Babe Lipstick (hot pink)
• Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 168 (fluffy angled brush), 165 (tapered blush brush), 130 (flat stippling brush)
• Substitutes:  Shell Pearl = Soft & Gentle; Petals & Peacocks = Girl About Town; True Babe = Pink Poodle

For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Fuchsia pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Dollipop eyeshadow on the entire lower eyelid area. Darken the outer third of the lid with Bulletproof eyeshadow with the 226, gently brushing it into the outer crease. Lightly blend Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow, with the 226, in the crease. Lightly tap and brush Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Beautiful Iris eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone and inner tearduct. Bring everything together by applying Lust eyeliner on the lower lash line and Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by applying Blacktrack fluidline to the upper lash line with the 208, and then sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.

For cheeks, apply Sculpt sculpting powder to the hollows of the cheeks to lightly contour and blend onto cheeks with the 168. To highlight, apply Shell pearl onto the cheekbones with the 165.

For lips, apply Petals & Peacocks lipstick first, and then layer True Babe lipglass for a complementing lip.

Sugarpill Cosmetics:  Pressed Eyeshadow

Sugarpill Cosmetics also released nine shades of pressed eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.14 oz.)–though you can find them all within pre-made eyeshadow quads as well. The other five shades you can find in this review!  The majority of the eyeshadows are vegan, but check the website, as they mark which are vegan (e.g. Love+ is not).

• Bulletproof is a deep dark black with a matte finish. It applies smoothly and isn’t chalky or powdery.
• Tako is a matte white. This one I felt had a little bit of a powdery look to it, though it was surprisingly good for a white eyeshadow. I don’t know if I’ve ever found a white that didn’t look a bit off on my skin tone, to be honest. It doesn’t feel powdery–just looks a little like it on my skin tone.
• Dollipop is a bright hot pink with a matte finish. This is one of those showstopping pinks, truly. I am not sure if I’ve ever seen anything quite this bright before. This is a retina-burning shade! Super pigmented and applies beautifully.
• Midori is an intense medium-dark green with a subtle shimmer. I actually can’t think of a shade that’s similar to this–at least not one that I own. Very pretty – wearable without being so intense or primary.
• Afterparty is a rich medium blue with a shimmer pearl. This is the only shade that really made me go, “Oh! This looks like…” (it reminded me of MAC’s Freshwater, but a little lighter blue). This one has a very distinct pearly sheen to it.

All of the nine eyeshadows applied smoothly and felt soft to the touch. They were intensely pigmented, and you didn’t need much to get to that high level of pigmentation. For those who aren’t so much into color, Sugarpill doesn’t quite have you covered–yet. I’m interested to see if Sugarpill will put together a wider range of finishes, color varieties, and the like in the future.

The packaging works for me. It’s understated and functional, but it doesn’t feel cheap (which is something I worry about with newer brands). It’s a circular, flat, semi-domed shaped plastic. It has a matte black plastic on the bottom half with a clear plastic flip-top lid. The lid has the Sugarpill logo printed (not a sticker!) on the lid as well.
