Are you a drugstore bargain hunter or high-end addict?

Either way, it’s important to recognize we can’t always splurge on all of the things we’d like to. The key to everything–including beauty–in life is moderation, balance. If you’ve been following Only In A Woman’s World campaign along with me, you’d notice balance is a concept that comes through. Every so often, I go through some checklists and reminders to make sure I’m not overindulging.

I ask myself…

  • Am I buying just to buy? I’ve been known to buy something just because I want to acquire something new. This is a bad habit, because it doesn’t always mean you make good purchases or worthwhile acquisitions that you’ll actually use.
  • Will I still want it next week? If I’m not totally sure, then I’ll put it back and sit on it for a week. (Or a few days… at least!) If I’m still jonesin’ for it, then I know I can keep it on my list.
  • How often will I use it? If it’s something *so* specific or tailored, I might not use it more than once. Since I am a full-fledged, self-admitted beauty addict, I’ve made more than one mistake in this department. I distinctly remember Dior’s Electric Lights quint being purchased and never used… Bad, bad, bad! Buy it to use it. (Unless, of course, you are blessed to have the disposable income to simply admire.)

Here are some ways to cut-back on beauty spending when you’re on a tight budget or need to save up for something (e.g. school — hey, it’s almost time for fall semester/quarter to start!)… Continue reading →

The Only In A Woman’s World campaign has come to its conclusion, and we are so honored to have been invited to take part in it. It was a really great campaign all about celebrating the quirks and characteristics that make women… well, women! From the crazy diets we’ve done, the times we’ve squeezed into those jeans just one size too tight, jealousy–I’ve enjoyed the series of episodes they’ve put out. (You should all know by now that my favorite is Episode #11!)

I wanted to recap by rounding up all of our previous posts from the campaign…

Hello, Fall!

With Labor Day well behind us, summer is truly on its way out and fall breezing on in.  Today was one of the first days of “fall” here in California–below 70 degrees (ha!).  One of the ways we finished up our final days of summer was with a very nice mention on Only In A Woman’s World. I also watched my favorite webisode from the series thus far:

I’ve been there so many times, I couldn’t even tell you the funny moments that ensued. Every time my boyfriend catches me jumping into skinny jeans, he can’t keep himself from laughing. If it wasn’t me trying to finagle my way into them, I might even laugh, too. (Maybe.)

So with fall upon us, I want to know how (and if) your beauty routine changes as the season emerges!

My routine doesn’t change much except I try to embrace darker lip colors and ensure my skin doesn’t dry out (as it often does towards the fall/winter).

How-to: Getting Ready for Girls’ Night Out

Have you ever been out all night and come home to find your makeup looking absolutely wrecked? The women at Only in a Woman’s World know how to have a good time, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t do so looking your best.

These are some of my favorite surefire tips and tricks to getting through the night looking as glamorous as you did walking out the door as you do coming home!

Eyes

  • Eyeshadow base: it is an absolute must. I recommend having a solid eyeshadow base ready to use for just about every time you wear eye makeup, but it’s particularly important for your night-out routine. An eyeshadow base keeps your eyeshadow on all night, without creasing or fading, and it can even help colors pop more than they normally would. I recommend MAC Soft Ochre paint pot, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, or Urban Decay Primer Potion.
  • Waterproof products: for mascara and liner, you need to use products that are smudgeproof and flakeproof. I like to coat lashes with my regular mascara once or twice, and then use a final coat of waterproof mascara. This helps the mascara last and not budge during the night, but it keeps lashes softer and helps the removal process, too. As far as liner goes, make sure you have a trusty liner that you know doesn’t smudge, budge, or migrate within a few hours. I personally love Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liners for long-lasting lining power.
  • Makeup Remover Swabs: I think these are a real must-have for your evening clutch. They’re compact enough that you can keep them in your own bag or convince one of your girlfriends to hold onto it in hers for you. I like Bare Escentuals On the Spot swabs, because they’re soft cotton swabs that are already filled with makeup remover, so you can quickly fix any smudges, budges, etc. on the go. Plus, they’re only $5, which is a steal for something so convenient.
