Sinful Colors Innocent Nail Lacquer

Sinful Colors Innocent Nail Lacquer ($1.99 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a bright pop of chartreuse–a light-medium yellow and green hue–with a creamy finish. NYX Lime is a chartreuse as well but has a lot of shimmer. China Glaze Electric Pineapple is similar but a touch greener. Illamasqua Radium is a bit darker and greener, plus it has a very fine shimmer. Zoya Mitzi is also similar, but it’s a little greener.

First and foremost, this polish WILL stain nails a very ugly shade of yellow-green. I’m a huge fan of chartreuse, but the stained version of the shade is too close to looking jaundiced. It’s not overly surprising, because this kind of shade has a tendency to do so, but buyer beware.  Sinful Colors is a very hit-and-miss line–some shades are amazing, but there are a lot of sub-par shades within the line.  It seems to be my luck that the majority of the ones I’ve swatched have been the latter!

Staining aside (which isn’t indicative of a poor product–even chartreuse-hued eyeshadows can stain when used wet!), the formula was difficult to work with.  It was thick, almost goopy, and had a tendency to pull and pool to the sides.  It was very streaky on the first coat, and the second coat didn’t manage to smooth out all of the streakiness.  The drying time was also on the longer side, which I suspect is due in part to the unusually thick consistency.  I don’t have any wear issues with Sinful, but I can’t think of any polish that has chipped on me aside from matte polish when worn without a top coat.

	If you want to try a chartreuse-colored shade but know you're unlikely to wear it or have the patience to work with the disappointing formula, it may still be worth the $2 (or $1, if you can find it on sale). If you're only interested in a top-quality polish, this isn't it.

Sinful Cloud 9 Nail Lacquer ($1.99 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a bright tangerine orange with gold-tangerine shimmer. I don’t have a shade that looks quite like this with shimmer, but China Glaze Papaya Punch is just a bit darker, while China Glaze Sun Worshipper is closer (though lighter) but lacks the shimmery element of Cloud 9–and I think the shimmer is what makes it stand out. China Glaze Riveting is much more of a fiery orange-red.

The color coverage wasn’t quite opaque after two coats, but it was close enough that I would not feel a third coat was necessary. I only get visible nail line in some lighting at certain angles. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and I really liked the application on this shade–a very happy thing after the frustration of Sinful HD Nails. I do get a week of wear out of Sinful’s formula, though there is minor to noticeable tip wear after seven days (but no chipping!).

	Perfect for adding some warmth into your winter! It's bright, fun, and plays with the light well. The downside is the slightly sheer color after two coats, so you may want to do three coats for totally opaque coverage.

Sinful Colors HD Nails (926) Nail Lacquer ($2.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a grassy green with a subtle cool undertone and silver shimmer. It’s still on the sheer side after three coats–you can definitely see the nail line. The finish has a slight metallic feel to it, so there are noticeable brush strokes (but they’re “as expected” for a more metallic finish). Zoya’s Apple seemed to be the closest shade I had to compare to, but Apple is a yellower green with lots of gold sparkle.

The consistency wasn’t really thin, but it seemed watery, which I imagine accounted for the low color payoff per coat. For swatches, I don’t like to go beyond three coats, as most polishes should be opaque (or reach the opacity level they’re supposed to have) by two coats, so three is being generous and more to show you what can be achieved. The biggest drawback with this particular shade was the post-manicure staining, which was a yellowy-green (I’d refer to it as the color of fungus, really), and this was over a base coat. I know that green pigments have a tendency to stain, but this was rather unappetizing and it took both buffing and a few soaks in lemon juice to minimize the staining aftermath. The good news there was it did last a week when worn!

Sinful Colors’ bottles have a slick cap (no rubberized cap), so use some care opening (especially when they’re new and very tightly screwed on), or else you might fling your polish across the room–which I totally did the first time I opened one. Luckily, it hadn’t opened, and it was over carpet, so it landed with a soft thud as opposed to a loud shattering!

	It's not my favorite shade by Sinful Colors, and the brand is definitely better (overall) than this shade indicates. If it didn't stain, it'd be more likable, but unfortunately, the sheer color and yellow staining make this a no-go for me/
