The Scarlet Season: Chanel Jupiter Glossimer

Chanel Jupiter Glossimer ($27.00) was a limited edition shade of orange-y red gloss with multicolored sparkle. I was happy to see it is still available through Bloomingdales, if this is your kind of red–you may even find your local Chanel counter still has some stock leftover from earlier this year as well. Glossimers have a very special shimmer about them; they’re smoother and finer than MAC’s Dazzleglass and just as dazzling. This is one of my preferred shades of Glossimers, just because it’s pigmented and super shimmery without being sticky or gritty. For a deeper, more opaque look, I’d recommend wearing a red or berry lipstick underneath.

The Scarlet Season: Eve Pearl Hey Sexy/Hot Mamma Lip Gloss

Eve Pearl Hey Sexy/Hot Mamma Lip Gloss ($28.00) is a dual-ended lipgloss with two shades: a mauvey plum and a rich ruby red with red and gold shimmer. This is an excellent red lip gloss, because it’s richly pigmented, goes on opaque, and it feels very smooth and moisturizing. It has a minty scent, too! The gloss really impresses me most with how much color it gives lips while still being a gloss. It has a subtly glossy sheen that’s not too much, but still has a wetter look than a lipstick. One of my favorite glosses by Eve pearl!

The Scarlet Season: L’Oreal Plumped Red Infallible Plumping Lipgloss

L’Oreal Plumped Red #306 Infallible Plumping Lipgloss ($9.99) is a sheer, lightly tinted orange-based red lipgloss with “plumping power.” It lightly plumps up lips with just a touch of a tingle, which I didn’t find too bothersome (and I’d say I’m particularly sensitive to lip plumpers and find the majority overwhelming). I wish the color was bolder and more opaque, because it is rather subtle and sheer. It does, however, significantly tint and add redness to my lips, and it wears well, because it has a tendency to stain a little rather than sit on top of lips like a typical gloss. It has the faintest bit of shimmer, but it’s hardly noticeable on lips.

The Scarlet Season: MAC Rockocco Lipstick

MAC Rockocco Lipstick ($14.00) was a limited edition shade of fiery orange-based red with a creamy texture, semi-matte finish, and a subtle sheen. It’s definitely one of my favorite orange-based reds, and I love the way it clings to lips without drying them out. This is probably one of my top three red lipstick shades I wish MAC would repromote, because it really just has something extra about it that nothing in the permanent line brings to the table.

The Scarlet Season: Lipstick Queen 15 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Gloss

Lipstick Queen 15 Minutes of Fame Pop Art Gloss ($16.50 for 1.45ml/0.05 oz.) is a semi-opaque medium-deep red with more of a cool-tone to it. Pop Art Glosses are non-sticky, shimmer-free, and they feel lightweight on the lips. The formula is hydrating and wears well and goes on pretty even. The gloss applicator is a twist-up brush-type, so that may or may not be your cup of tea. I like the color, which is a semi-opaque shade of red that’s deep enough to be bold, but not bright enough to be too much.
