Makeup Geek Jackpot Pigment
Makeup Geek Jackpot Pigment

The upcoming Vegas Collection also features two new shades of Makeup Geek Pigments ($6.99 for 0.05 oz.) as well as three shades that are already available (Liquid Gold and Vegas Lights, which I’ve reviewed previously; and Night Life, which is included below).

Jackpot is described as a “pale shimmery yellow with just a hint of glitter.” It’s a light-medium, yellow gold with a frosted, metallic finish and chunky sparkle. It had fairly good color payoff, but the texture is rather chunky, which made it difficult to apply. Applied dry, it didn’t bind well or go on smoothly over the skin, and applied damp, it tended to chunk and thicken in places so it was uneven. The color wore well for nine hours, but I had noticeable fall out throughout the day. MAC Amberluxe #2 (P) is less sparkly. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #4 (LE) is smoother. theBalm #40 (P, $6.50) is less sparkly. theBalm #12 (P, $6.50) is lighter. MAC Golden Hours #3 (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Lemon Tart (P, $15.00) is lighter, less sparkly. Makeup Geek Yellow Brick Road (P, $5.99) is slightly brighter. theBalm D1 (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. bareMinerals Rising Star (LE) is a touch cooler-toned. Inglot #403 (P, $6.00) is less sparkly. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Poker Face is described as a “medium golden bronze.” It’s a medium-dark bronze brown with warm, coppery-gold shimmer and a metallic sheen. Applied dry, it was a little less copper-toned but still had good color payoff, and it had a very finely-milled texture. Applied damp, it was smoother, richer, and more molten-looking. When I tested it, the color lasted for ten hours. YSL Fetiche #1 (LE) is darker, less metallic. LORAC Nude #6 (LE) is darker. Too Faced Tiger’s Eye (LE, $16.00) is more coppery. Dior Sundeck #4 (LE) is similar. Chanel Mirage (95) (P, $36.00) is a cream. Dior Golden Flower #4 (LE) is similar. Too Faced Buttered Rum (LE, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Gangsta (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Cognac (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Museum Bronze (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Night Life is described as a “light shimmery rose brown taupe.” It’s a medium-dark brown with warm undertones and a taupe-hued, metallic sheen. Applied dry, it was a little dusty but very finely milled, and applied damp, it was more metallic but easier to work with and smoother against the skin. It wore well for nine and a half hours without fading. LORAC Mocha (P) is darker, less metallic. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #2 (P) is less metallic. Sleek MakeUP Python (P, $9.99) is darker. MAC Pink Sensibilities #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker, less metallic. Urban Decay Liar (P, $18.00) is less metallic. Tom Ford Beauty Platinum (LE, $40.00) is darker, cream. MAC Sable (P, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Plumluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Palette
MAC Plumluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Palette

MAC Plumluxe Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.14 oz.) contains “five complementary shades that glide on and blend beautifully for infinite day-to-night looks.” MAC describes it as a “hybrid formula” that can be applied dry for sheer color, wet for opaque color. This might be better titled as “Purpleluxe,” since it’s more like variations on purple than plum. It’s characterized by a lot of glitter, sparkle, and metallic finishes, which makes it harder to wear on its own as the powdery, sometimes crumbly, quality of the glittery shades shows up on the lids and creates a lot of fall out both during application as well as throughout the time I wore them. I think the way the Veluxe Pearlfusion formula sparkles can be really pretty, but they can be such a high maintenance product to apply/wear.

Plumluxe #1 is described as a “frosty white.” It’s a glittering, bright white with a metallic finish and subtle warm undertones. It had semi-sheer color payoff applied dry and more opaque pigmentation when applied damp. The texture wasn’t glittery exactly, but it wasn’t smooth–almost crumbly where flecks of sparkle/shimmer acted more like chunks. I had a lot of fall out with this shade when I wore it. Too Faced La Croisette (P, $16.00) is less glittery. Tarina Tarantino Glinda’s Kiss (LE) is less glittery. Dior Golden Snow #3 (LE) is warmer. MAC 2x Dare #1 (LE) is cooler-toned. theBalm Sassy (P, $16.00) is more muted. Inglot #453 (P, $6.00) is less glittery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Plumluxe #2 is described as a “white pink with pearl.” It’s a subtly, cool-toned, light-medium pink with a sparkly, metallic finish. It had sheer color that was very powdery when applied dry, which was more opaque when applied with a dampened brush. It had moderate fall out when worn, though the color itself didn’t start to fade until after eight hours of wear. Milani Bella Pink (13) (P, $3.99) is less glittery. MAC Violet Blend #1 (LE) is less glittery. Laura Mercier Diamond Pink (LE, $23.00) is lighter. MAC Pink Sensibilities #2 (LE, $21.00) is similar. MAC A Medley of Mauves #1 (P, $21.00) is less glittery. Tom Ford Beauty Seductive Rose #2 (P) is similar. Too Faced Marshmallow (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Pinkluxe #1 (P) is darker. Urban Decay SWF (P, $18.00) is less glittery. MAC Invincible Light (LE, $21.00) is warmer. MAC Maribu (LE, $32.50) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Plumluxe #3 is described as a “lavender.” It’s a cool-toned, light-medium purple with silver and white sparkle/shimmer. It had a more glittery, metallic finish. Applied dry, it was sheer and a bit crumbly, and applied with a dampened brush produced smoother, more pigmented results. I had some fall out with this shade when I wore it, though the color didn’t start fading until after seven and a half hours of wear. NARS Jardin Perdu (Right) (LE, $24.00) is darker. NARS Kauai #2 (P, $24.00) is darker. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #6 (LE, $16.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Bewitched (P, $6.99) is warmer. Sleek MakeUP Romance in Rome (LE, $9.99) is darker. Urban Decay Voodoo (LE, $18.00) is darker. MAC Black Grape (P, $21.00) is similar. theBalm Lavish Latoya (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly, darker. Urban Decay ACDC (P, $18.00) is darker, less sparkly. Milani Purr-fect Purple (P, $6.99) is similar. MAC Grand Galaxy (LE, $19.50) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Plumluxe #4 is described as a “dark purple with light pearl.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned purple with a pearly shimmer. It was sheer and powdery when applied dry, and it was more opaque when applied with a dampened brush, which helped most of the powderiness. It wore well for eight hours before fading. Dior Lilas Mitzah (176) (P, $29.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Freakshow (P, $18.00) is brighter. Urban Decay Vice (LE, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Highly Charged (LE, $21.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Plumluxe #5 is a dark gray with a pearly sheen and subtle,c ool undertones. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer but not powdery, and then applied damp, it was slightly more pigmented. The color lasted for almost eight hours before fading. There is a surprisingly amount of shades very similar to this — see comparison swatches / view dupes.

Laura Mercier Desire Lip Glace
Laura Mercier Desire Lip Glace

Laura Mercier Desire Lip Glace ($25.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “burgundy with shimmer.” It’s a reddish burgundy with warm undertones and violet and fuchsia shimmer. NARS Rouge Tribal (P, $26.00) is darker. MAC Black Tea (LE, $19.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Feelin’ So Good (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, darker. Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet (P, $24.00) is cooler-toned, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Lip Glace formula is supposed to be a “high-shine, perfectly pigmented lip gloss” that “hydrates and protects lips” with a “non-sticky formula.” The color is described as “rich, long-lasting” as well. It had semi-opaque color coverage, so the natural lip color came through but it was visible. The shimmer is on the lighter side, so it is more in the background with this particular shade. Applied, the color didn’t settle too much into lip lines, but the sheerer nature of such a dark shade made it so it didn’t look that even on, either. The gloss felt lightweight, non-sticky, and was lightly hydrating, while it lasted for three and a half hours on me. It had a burnt sugar/caramel scent but no discernible taste.

Kat Von D Gothica Studded Kiss Lipstick
Kat Von D Gothica Studded Kiss Lipstick

Kat Von D Gothica Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “sparkling bronze.” It’s a medium-dark, coppery-brown with warm, reddish-orange undertones and a mix of gold and copper flecks of sparkle and shimmer. Revlon Sandstorm (LE, $7.99) is smoother, glossier. Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) (P, $7.49) has less shimmer. Milani Bronze Beauty (P, $5.49) is more metallic, shimmery. MAC Who’s That Chick (LE, $16.00) is brighter, more shimmery. MAC Sheer Seduction (LE, $16.00) is sheerer, more metallic, glossier. Maybelline Mochachino (P, $7.49) is less sparkly. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Authentic (P, $18.00) is more metallic, less sparkly. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The consistency has just enough give so that it doesn’t really tug/drag harshly at the lips, but it doesn’t glide on effortlessly–you do need a decent amount of pressure. The color goes on fairly evenly, though some of the sparkle seems to stick in places so the particles aren’t as evenly distributed as the actual underlying color is. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it wasn’t as pigmented as some of the other shades I’ve reviewed previously. On me, the color lasts six and a half hours, shorter than the 10-hour wear-time that’s claimed and shorter than most of the ones I’ve tried. It is slightly drying but not nearly as drying as you might expect, given it’s clingier feel. This one is also noticeably textured, as you can feel a slight grittiness from the sparkle both as applied from the tube itself as well as when it wears down.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick
Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick

I originally reviewed this new Marc Jacobs Beauty Kiss Pop Lip Color Stick ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) formula a few weeks ago, and now I have the other two shades I bought to share with you. The formula is described a “highly-pigmented lipstick that provides a burst of long-wearing, kissable color,” which is actually a different description than what was available two weeks ago (which read: “Give lips a burst of color—and hydration—when you swipe on this gel lip shade from Marc Jacobs”). The press release listed, “Color glides on effortlessly and lasts for hours, locking in hydration with advanced ingredients.”

Headliner (608) ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “berry sangria.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark raspberry pink with a satin-matte finish. There’s a slight shine to the finish, but it is fairly matte. It had full color coverage, and it applied smoothly and evenly. This was actually the best-performing shade of the four I bought. It was lightly creamy and didn’t tug or pull at the lips, and it was more comfortable to wear. It didn’t feel as thick, and it didn’t feel chalky at all. On me, it wore well for six and a half hours and was lightly drying–and it didn’t “crack” like the other shades I tried. Givenchy Framboise Velours (315) (LE, $36.00) is slightly muted. Bite Beauty Crimson (LE, $28.00) is brighter. Guerlain Gladys (78) (P, $51.00) is more shimmery. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is warmer. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is cooler-toned, glossier. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is glossier. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is a touch darker, more shimmery. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pow (600) ($28.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “peony pink.” It’s a muted, light-medium pink with subtle warm undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly opaque color coverage, but the consistency had a thicker, chalkier feel going on, so it did drag here and there. I was able to get mostly even color, but after two and a half hours of wear, the color started to pull into lip lines and “crack.” The color wore for about five hours. It was lightly drying while worn. Too Faced Melted Peony (P, $21.00) is warmer. NARS Villa Lante (LE, $25.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Please Me (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC A Novel Romance Lipglasses
MAC A Novel Romance Lipglasses

There are five new, limited edition shades of MAC Lipglass ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) in the upcoming A Novel Romance collection, which will launch online on August 14th and be in-stores (and at counters) on August 21st.

Bared for You ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft rose gold.” It’s a light-medium, peach with soft white shimmer. I get less rose gold, more peach than anything else. It had semi-opaque color coverage with plenty of shimmer and a glossy shine. It settled somewhat into lip lines but applied fairly evenly. It wore well for three and a half hours on me. MAC Water Deities (LE, $15.00) is sheerer, less peach. MAC Pure Flattery (LE, $15.00) is pinker. MAC Naked Space (LE, $15.00) is lighter, less shimmery. MAC Good Lovin’ (LE, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pure Fiction ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “mid-tone violet pink.” It’s a cool-toned, light-medium pink with blue undertones and a milky, creamy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and it did settle somewhat into lip lines, unfortunately! This shade lasted for three and a half hours on me. MAC Pure Silliness (LE, $15.00) is darker, less cool-toned, brighter. MAC Carousel (LE, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Patentpink (LE, $20.00) is slightly darker. NYX Merengue (P, $5.00) is similar. MAC Long Love Love (P, $19.50) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Reckless Desire ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “sheer pearlescent lavender grey.” It has a clear base with pink and lavender iridescent shimmer. It is sheer as the base really seems colorless. It wears three hours on me. MAC Vacant (LE, $15.00)is less shimmery. MAC Icescape (LE, $15.00) is pinker. Bobbi Brown Firefly (P, $24.00) is more iridescent. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Talk Sexy ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “dark purple.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark berry plum with fuchsia and gold shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which meant that it didn’t look as even applied on its own, though it wasn’t too noticeable from a normal viewing distance (just up close). This shade wore well for four and a half hours. Dior Intrigue (995) (P, $35.00) is less shimmery, brighter. MAC Modern Lure (LE, $15.00) is redder, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Wet Violet (P, $45.00) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. MAC Rebel (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery, cooler-toned. MAC Flight of Fancy (LE, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Wanting More ($15.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “washed-out lavender.” It’s a light, milky pink with a subtle gray tint. It had semi-opaque color payoff, but this one settled terribly into lip lines and looked so uneven applied. The gloss lasted for three and a half hours on me. MAC Tender (P, $22.00) is cooler-toned. MAC The Wee Coquette (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Good Times (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned, pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
