Maybelline Orchid Ecstasy (730) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick
Maybelline Orchid Ecstasy (730) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick

Maybelline Orchid Ecstasy (730) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.14 oz.) is a fuchsia-magenta with cool, blue undertones and very fine iridescent shimmer with a luminous sheen. Tom Ford Beauty Pablo (LE, $32.00) is more opaque. Tom Ford Beauty Jack (LE, $32.00) is more matte, more muted. Tom Ford Beauty Justin (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery. NARS Michiyo (P, $32.00) is less glossy, less shimmery. MAC Boutique Pink (LE, $22.00) is lighter. MAC Lust Extract (LE, $17.00) is lighter. MAC Kelly Yum-Yum (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush (LE, $18.00) is brighter. MAC Bold Spring (P, $22.00) is lighter. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is more muted. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is less magenta. MAC Midnight Mambo (LE, $22.00) is similar. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

At last, the missing (and final) shade of the new spring colors! It had semi-sheer coverage, which could have applied more evenly–it looks a little splotchy to me, where some areas have a more magenta coloring and others are less blue-based, more fuchsia. The consistency has a lot of slip, so there’s no tugging while applyling, but it slidews around and will show “lines” if you press your lips together. On me, this shade wore well for three and a half hours with a slight stain left behind, but it was hydrating over time.

Guerlain Les Nuees (18) Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Les Nuees (18) Eyeshadow Palette

Guerlain Les Nuees (18) Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a new, limited edition cooler-toned set of shades. I felt like the color combination really needed another mid-tone or medium-dark shade, because the three lighter shades tended to muddy together, while the navy blue was almost too dark and harsh in comparison. The color payoff varied from shade to shade, and none of the shades wore particularly well on me as most were prone to fading.

Les Nuees #1 is described as a “shimmering navy.” It’s a blackened navy blue with very fine, lighter navy blue shimmer. The shimmer is fine enough that when applied, the eyeshadow takes on a more satin-like finish. It had decent color payoff with a soft, but dry, texture, which made it harder to blend on the lid. I found it looked patchy the more I blended it, so it’s an eyeshadow that would definitely benefit from primer. On me, the color lasted for seven hours before fading. Urban Decay Heroine (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Too Faced De La Mer (P, $16.00) is similar. Wet ‘n’ Wild I Don’t Do Camouflage #2 (LE, $2.29) is darker. Disney by Sephora Midnight (LE) is more muted. MAC Shop & Drop (LE, $15.00) is similar. bareMinerals Shaken Not Stirred (P) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Nuees #2 is described as a “white.” It’s a bright, cool-toned white with a frosted, metallic finish. The texture was very soft but a little crumbly, so it didn’t apply as evenly as you might expect. It had fairly good color payoff but could have been more intense. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. This type of shade is easily duped. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Nuees #3 is described as a “soft sky blue.” It’s a cool-toned, light lavender–an almost iridescent white rather than a sky blue–with a pearly sheen. The color payoff was decent, but it didn’t apply evenly on the lid and required layering to achieve decent intensity. The shade seemed prone to fading and only lasted for seven hours when I tested it. Kat Von D Gravitron (LE) is darker, warmer. Chanel Oiseaux de Nuit #1 (LE) is lighter. theBalm A3 (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #1 (P) is similar. Urban Decay Aura #2 (LE, $18.00) is similar. MAC Dynamic Duo 2 #1 (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Fresh Ice (LE, $21.00) is similar. MAC Crystal (DC, $15.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Nuees #4 is described as a “delicate pink.” It’s a light beige with warm undertones, even though it may look pink in the pan, it seems to have a very strong white base. As a result, it loses a lot of the color. The finish is more pearly to frost, while the color payoff was semi-sheer. Unfortunately, this shade is too similar to the white shade, which made it hard to get a variety of looks out of the palette as there wasn’t enough contrast. Chanel Tisse Paris #2 (P) is less shimmery, warmer. Colour Pop Onai (P, $5.00) is a cream product. LORAC Vanilla (LE) is more shimmery. Milani Bella Ivory (01) (P, $3.99) is warmer. Too Faced All American Girl (P, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Famous in a Small Town (P, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Champagne Truffle (LE, $16.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipsticks
Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipsticks

Maybelline Hibiscus Pop (715) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.14 oz.) is a cool-toned, cotton candy pink with blue undertones and a soft, pearly shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it had a higher amount of slip, which caused the color to apply unevenly with a tendency to streak. It pulled into lip lines after two hours of wear, and it lasted for a total of three. Maybelline Petal Pink (710) (P, $7.49) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Alexander (LE, $32.00) is more matte. MAC Ladies Who Lunch (LE, $22.00) is a smidgen lighter. Givenchy Rose Dahlia (210) (P, $36.00) is more muted. NARS Villa Lante (LE, $25.00) is moreo matte. YSL Fetish Pink (8) (P, $34.00) is a smidgen darker. NARS Roman Holiday (P, $26.00) is more muted. Maybelline Pink Pop (P, $7.49) is cooler-toned. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is darker, less luminous. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Power Peony (720) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.14 oz.) is a brightened, light-medium pink with strong, cool, blue undertones that leans almost lavender. It had a soft shine with more opaque coverage, but there was still some translucency so the natural coloring of your lips may alter the way it looks on you. It lasted for four hours on me. Tom Ford Beauty Preston (LE, $32.00) is less blue-based. Illamasqua Luster (P, $26.00) is brighter. Maybelline Pink Pop (P, $7.49) is less luminous. MAC Naughty Saute (LE, $16.00) is glossier. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Narcissus (P, $18.00) is a smidgen darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Lilac Flush (725) Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick ($7.49 for 0.14 oz.) is a pink-tinted lavender with a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque coverage, but it was more slippery and didn’t apply evenly. I noticed slight gathering in the lip lines towards the end of the three-hour wear, but it wasn’t as noticeable as with Hibiscus Pop. Colour Pop Brills (P, $5.00) is darker, more matte. NYX Rose (P, $6.00) is lighter, more matte. MAC Dodgy Girl (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Mannequin (P, $18.00) is lighter, more matte. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Digitalis (P, $18.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Opalescent Orchid (515) Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss
Maybelline Opalescent Orchid (515) Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss

Maybelline Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a new gloss released just in time for spring. According to Maybelline, it is “the first lip lacquer with intense liquid lip color and brilliant iridescent shine.” If you’re familiar with the original Color Elixirs, most were fairly pigmented, but the Iridescent range is definitely sheerer in comparison. The shades in this review are some of the more pigmented shades in the range, but it’s not the “intense liquid lip color” as described. They look and feel more like traditional lip gloss, and quite honestly, I’m surprised these weren’t marketed as semi-sheer for a “spring look” (’tis the season for sheer). The shimmer is fine and never gritty, while wear averages around four hours. The formula was nicely hydrating and comfortable to wear with only slight tackiness occurring after a few hours of wear (initially, it feels non-sticky). They have a sweet scent, but there is a very perfume-y taste, and it is noticeable. If you’re very sensitive to lip products with any taste, you probably won’t like these.

I also had packaging issues with several of the applicators broken, whether partially bent/floppy to barely hanging on. I remember experiencing a couple of wonky applicators with the original set, but it seemed more prevalent in the new shades.

Maybelline Opalescent Orchid (515) Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, fuchsia pink with subtle iridescent shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation that covered fairly evenly and smoothly. It wore well for four hours on me. MAC Ultramarine Pink (LE, $30.00) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Ceremonial (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. NARS Priscilla (P, $26.00) is brighter. MAC Pink Poodle (By Request) (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Imperial Red (LE, $19.00) is darker. MAC Girl About Town (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Call Me Gorgeous (LE, $20.00) is lighter. Buxom Berry Blast (P, $19.00) is lighter, less shimmery. Burberry Pink Sweet Pea (LE, $29.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Radiant Ruby (530) Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, pinky-red with cool, blue undertones and a glossy shine. This one didn’t seem to have shimmer to it, so I’m not sure how it’s part of Iridescent range (where’s the pearl?!). It settled into every lip line on me (some of the worst I’ve seen) and made all the lip lines look fuchsia-ish and really stand out. It had semi-sheer coverage overall. On me, this shade wore well for four hours. MAC Glam (LE, $15.00) is brighter, more opaque. MAC Love Alert (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery. Le Metier de Beaute Hibiskiss (LE, $32.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Maybelline Mystical Magenta (610) Color Elixir Iridescent Lipgloss ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, light-medium fuchsia pink with iridescent violet shimmer. This shade had the most shimmer of the three with semi-sheer color payoff. Unfortunately, the color settled into lip lines, but at least the shimmer was there to distract the eye from it (somewhat). It lasted for four hours on me. MAC Ceremonial (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. NARS Priscilla (P, $26.00) is brighter. MAC Pink Poodle (By Request) (LE, $15.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. MAC Vibrant Vibe (P, $22.00) is less shimmery. Revlon Berry Allure (P, $7.99) is more muted, less shimmery. MAC Embrace Me (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Call Me Gorgeous (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Buxom Berry Blast (P, $19.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow

For spring, there are four new shades of Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is supposed to a “brilliantly reflective look” that can be applied wet or dry (the brand recommends applying with fingertips). It’s supposed to have “sophisticated” sparkle and not “chunky glitter.” They’re really pretty and dazzling, and they’re certainly going to be more reflective and sparkly in person or as they move than in a still shot. That being said, there is a fair amount of fall out applying these, and there is some fall out over time (it is surprisingly less than you’d expect, given just how packed these are with sparkle!). The sparkle is finer than true glitter, and the flecks love to adhere to my under eye area. It seems like only full makeup remover and a cotton pad or tape will remove the majority. The texture feels fairly smooth in the pan and almost has a wet consistency. They tend to work best with a dampened brush (wetter than I’d normally use for a regular eyeshadow as well).

Urban Decay Cosmic Moondust Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “metallic white with iridescent 3D sparkle and shift.” It’s a sparkly, bright white with flecks of white sparkle and a metallic sheen. It had sheer coverage applied dry, and it was semi-opaque applied with a damp brush. I had a noticeable amount of fall out during wear, though the color didn’t crease for eight hours. Guerlain Cygne Blanc #2 (LE) is less sparkly. Too Faced Frost (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. MAC Plumluxe #1 (P) is similar. Make Up For Ever D124 Crystalline White (P, $21.00) is less sparkly. Marc Jacobs Beauty Stagelight (302) (LE, $32.00) is sheerer. Chanel Fantasme (P, $36.00) is not as bright. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Urban Decay Ether Moondust Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “light purple with pink-blue 3D sparkle and shift.” It’s a muted, blackened purple with a hint of gray and pink and blue sparkle (the pink almost looks copper at times). It had semi-opaque pigmentation applied dry, and it was mostly opaque applied damp. The texture was finer, and the sparkle seemed to bind better with this shade (perhaps because the base was more pigmented). While the color itself lasted for eight hours, there was fall out during wear. Too Faced Sugar Plum Fairy (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. MAC Black Grape (P, $21.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Urban Decay Scorpio Moondust Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “matte black with gold 3D sparkle.” It is a muted, dark black with warm undertones with more of a satin-matte finish topped off with gold sparkle. The gold sparkle doesn’t translate as well on the lid compared to other shades, which may be due to the more matte (and more opaque) base color, but it also seemed less sparkly in general. It was easier to work with, and it had less fall out, but it looked more like a satiny black applied (it darkened with little sparkle). It lasted for eight hours on me. Colour Pop Friskie (P, $5.00) is less golden. Guerlain Cygne Noir #1 (LE) is lighter, less sparkly. MAC Jet Couture (P, $21.00) is more sparkly. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Urban Decay Solstice Moondust Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “metallic pink-red with green 3D sparkle and shift.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark copper-brown with warm, red-orange undertones and a bluish-teal duochrome. The duochrome was more present on the lid than swatched, but it will perform best when layered over a darker base (the reddish tones will work in the background and let the duochrome sparkle come to the foreground). The color payoff was semi-opaque both wet and dry, but the dry application made the product apply more smoothly. This particular shade seemed chunkier, not as smooth as the other shades. It lasted for eight hours without creasing, but there was a fair amount of fall out that went on throughout wear. Sephora + Pantone Universe Castor Gray (LE) is less sparkly. Makeup Geek Insomnia (P, $6.99) is greener, less sparkly. MAC I’ve Got a Crush on You (LE, $32.50) is less sparkly, stronger teal tone to it. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Chanel Spring 2015 Le Vernis Nail Colour
Chanel Spring 2015 Le Vernis Nail Colour

Chanel Paradisio (645) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “pearly pale green.” It’s a very light, warm white with a green-ish tint and metallic shimmer. It had some visible brush strokes, and it had semi-opaque color coverage. I wish it applied more evenly, and it’s a polish that might be better with three coats, though it has a medium-thick consistency so I don’t know about the wear/feel of three coats. Dior Pampille (192) (LE, $24.00) is sheerer. Tom Ford Beauty Vapour (LE, $30.00) is whiter. Essie Absolutely Shore (LE, $8.00) is less shimmery. Butter London Fiver (P, $15.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Chanel Tenderly (641) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “purple rosewood.” It’s a muted, medium-dark plummy mauve with warm undertones and a cream-jelly finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation after two coats, and it dried down to a naturally shiny finish without the need of a top coat. It was easy to apply and self-leveled. Zoya Odette (P, $9.00) is lighter. Formula X Perfection (P, $12.50) is grayer. NARS Manosque (LE, $20.00) is darker. China Glaze Below Deck (LE, $7.50) is darker, cooler-toned. Zoya Jana (P, $9.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Chanel Desirio (643) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as an “intense magenta.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark berry-pink with a cream finish. It had almost opaque coverage after a single coat, but I used two in swatches to be sure. It dried down to a high-shine finish and was incredibly easy to apply. Chanel Coup de Coeur (P, $27.00) is more muted, warmer. Formula X A+ (P, $12.50) is brighter. MAC Toco Toucan (LE, $16.00) is brighter, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
