Fyrinnae Electric Stardust Arcane Magic Eyeshadow
Fyrinnae Electric Stardust Arcane Magic Eyeshadow

Fyrinnae Electric Stardust Arcane Magic Eyeshadow ($6.80 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “light, glowing, mint green sparkle.” It’s a light, pastel green with a subtle cool undertone and a frosted, sparkling finish. It is quite a bit darker and has a more frosted finish compared to Fyrinnae Jade Ghost, which I reviewed recently. Guerlain Coup de Foudre #3 is slightly gray in comparison but is close. Cinderella Cinderelly is nearly matte and is more cooler-toned. Make Up For Ever #34 is close in color, perhaps appearing darker because it has a satin finish.

Arcane Magic eyeshadows are designed to “[change] hue depending on how the light [hit them].” With this particular change, Fyrinnae has noted that the change is subtler compared to other shades in the range. Applied damp, it has semi-opaque color, and applied and patted over Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy, it applied more smoothly and had better opacity. The way this particular shade seems to change is that it turns cooler-toned, almost like a bluish-aqua at a distance. It has a soft, silky texture and feels fine with a little sparkle in it. Applied damp over bare lids, it lasted without creasing for seven hours, over Pixie Epoxy, seven and a half hours (which is designed to minimize fall out, not to prevent creasing or act as an eyeshadow base); and layered over an eyeshadow primer, no creasing after nine hours. There was some minor fall out when it was not worn with Pixie Epoxy–a little but not noticeable unless you get really close and start looking for it.

Also: Fyrinnae tweaked the formula on their loose eyeshadows slightly in January of this year (I purchased this in 2012), and it is supposed to be a subtle reformulation, and the changes may minimize fall out during application and wear and increase wear time. The colors and opacities are supposed to be the same.

If you plan to layer this over Pixie Epoxy and a primer, then I'd recommend checking it out if you're looking for a mint green hue.

MAC Riot Gear Nail Lacquer
MAC Riot Gear Nail Lacquer

MAC Riot Gear Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright true orange [with a cream finish].” It’s a tangerine orange with warm, yellowy undertones and a cream finish. Dior Mango is brighter, while China Glaze Orange You Hot? is brighter and has faint shimmer. Zoya Arizona is very similar. Sinful Cloud 9 is brighter and shimmery. China Glaze Papaya Punch is darker.

Riot Gear was only somewhat streaky on the first initial coat, but a second coat evened it out and covered any of the remaining streaks from the first coat.  It was the best of the four MAC polishes I swatched yesterday.  It was very nearly opaque after two coats, but at certain angles and when there was more light, there was a hint of visible nail line.  The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it applied without pooling along the edges.  I usually get a week of wear out of MAC’s polishes with minor tip wear but no chipping.

It's one of the better polishes that I've swatched from the recent collections, though it is not without its downsides. At this price point, it should be better.

Hare Polish Hooky at the Hamlet Nail Lacquer
Hare Polish Hooky at the Hamlet Nail Lacquer

Hare Polish Hooky at the Hamlet Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright shamrock green jelly … with white glitter in different shapes, sizes, and textures, along … glowing-blue hexes and very subtle purple shimmer.” It’s a brightened bluish-teal with white square and hexagon-shaped large glitter pieces and then finer white glitter, blue hexagons, and bluish-purple shimmer. Zoya Zuza has a similar coloring but doesn’t have the white glitters. MAC Ocean Dip is cream (no glitter at all).

The consistency was a little thick–thicker than the average jelly finish–and it took a bit longer to dry down (I actually ended up squishing slightly into my pinky nail with my ring fingernail). The glitters dispersed mostly evenly, but some of them did pull towards the top of my nails on the second coat. It is semi-opaque, as a jelly finish is supposed to be, and if you wanted more opaque color, I’d go with three coats or use a teal base color. I typically get a week of wear out of Hare’s formula with minor tip wear but no chipping. The brand should be restocking their spring range within the next week or so!

It's not as easy to apply as the average polish or even a lot of the Hare shades I've worked. The consistency is on the thicker end of the spectrum.

Hare Polish Let Them Eat... What? Nail Lacquer
Hare Polish Let Them Eat… What? Nail Lacquer

Hare Polish Let Them Eat… What? Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft white jelly with a blend of various shapes/sizes of hot orange, baby pink, white & gold glitter.” It’s a warm-toned, white jelly base with yellow/gold, pinky-red, white, and orange glitters that range from hexagon to square to circle in shape.

It has semi-opaque color after two coats, and the glitter distributed evenly for the most part, though a little tapping and pulling for a couple of areas would have improved the overall results. The base color was a bit streaky on the first coat, but a second coat covered the majority of that–and I noticed that where the glitter had more than one piece, it looked shadowy and gave a slight uneven appearance, even though the underlying base color was actually rather even. It kind of felt like an optical illusion. You’ll definitely want a thicker top coat with this one, because it is bumpy without.  I usually get a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chipping with Hare’s polishes.

I found it a bit tricky to work with to minimize streakiness and evenness in the color and glitter overall. I think it might work better with three coats or layered over another white polish.

MAC Pink Buttercream Pearlmatte Face Powder
MAC Pink Buttercream Pearlmatte Face Powder

MAC Pink Buttercream Pearlmatte Face Powder ($30.00 for 0.42 oz.) is described as a “light silvery pink base with dark pink flowers and periwinkle leaves.” It’s a cool-toned, light-medium pink with a blue-gray cast and a soft, white shimmer-sheen finish. Chantecaille Rose Petals is warmer, less pink. Lancome Moonlight Rose is warmer. Guerlani Cruel Gardenia is less pink and warmer. NARS New Order has a similar base color but has gold shimmer and sparkle. MAC Veronica’s Blush is warm-toned. MAC Full of Joy is more lavender. MAC Unconventional is more lavender and blue-based.

Like In for a Treat, it did emphasize pores somewhat; it wasn’t the worst offender I’ve come across, but it didn’t minimize or soften them in any way (and didn’t leave them as-is, either). There is actually something about the finish that reminds me of frosting (but I can’t actually recollect eating frosty with shimmer!). Pink Buttercream could be used as a blush on very fair skin tones, as it does have more color in its base than the other Pearlmatte. On my medium complexion (NC25/NC30), it adds a little pinkness but mostly shimmer/sheen. The texture is very soft and silky, and it blends out easily on the skin. It lasted seven and a half hours on me, and after eight, there was some very faint fading.

I loved the texture--so soft and smooth--but wish it was more flattering on the skin. If it was, it could be really quite lovely!

MAC In for a Treat Pearlmatte Face Powder
MAC In for a Treat Pearlmatte Face Powder

MAC In for a Treat Pearlmatte Face Powder ($30.00 for 0.42 oz.) is described as a “champagne base with matte coral flower and mint leaves.” It’s a pale champagne beige with a barely warm-toned golden champagne shimmer-sheen. MAC Lightscapade is warmer, less shimmery. NARS Nico is more beige, warmer, less shimmery. Chanel Poudre Signee de Chanel is slightly pink in its base. NARS Albatross has a stronger golden sheen (and a whiter base color). Illamaqua Aurora is a cream product and more metallic.

If you’ve never used the Pearlmatte formula, it’s supposed to be a highlighter and a blush with a “rich texture and velvet finish.” Now, I don’t think this is going to be a blusher even on really pale complexions, but it is a highlighter. I think the finish is too shimmery with a stronger sheen/frostiness that it’s better as a highlighter than an all-over powder. If used with a very light hand and the right brush, it could be used all-over–just not as effortlessly as a true finishing powder. There was a slight emphasis of pores when I applied it to my cheeks. In for a Treat lasted seven hours well, and then after eight, there was light fading/patchiness beginning to become apparent.  It has good color payoff, and the outer white is an overspray, but the leaves and flower petal colors go all the way through the power (I chipped out a section in the middle to check).  I thought the best aspect of the powder was its texture, as it was soft, finely-milled, and buttery to the touch.  I wish it lasted longer and was more flattering on the skin.
