Tom Ford Blush Nude Lip Color
Tom Ford Blush Nude Lip Color

Tom Ford Blush Nude Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is an opaque, soft pink beige with a creamy consistency and a barely-there sheen. It has warm, subtly yellow undertones. MAC Playing Koi is pinker. Estee Lauder Wild Blossom is more beige. Chanel Ming is less beige, pinker. MAC Myth is lighter, paler–Blush Nude is more wearable. MAC Innocence, Beware! is lighter, pinker, less warm. MAC Woo Me is a bit darker and glossier. MAC Naked Bliss is a smidgen darker and more beige. Maybelline Born With It is very close, slightly sheerer.

There are a lot of similar shades on the market–I find this to be true with a lot of Tom Ford’s lipsticks, which makes it harder to justify such an extravagant price tag. It doesn’t take away from the quality of the product itself, of course. The formula is good: creamy, opaque, comfortable to wear, and lasts a good while (Blush Nude wore for five hours).  It’s somewhat moisturizing, but it’s not the most hydrating lipstick on the market (though it wears longer than most more moisturizing formulas).  There is a lightly sweetened vanilla scent but no taste. The lipstick is housed in a brown and gold, square-shaped tube with the logo carved into the slant of the bullet.

This is an easy-to-wear nude--it's lightly pinked, so it's not stark and "corpse" colored, and the underlying warmth brightens the complexion. It's opaque, creamy, and wears for five hours.

NARS Koliary Nail Lacquer
NARS Koliary Nail Lacquer

NARS Koliary Nail Lacquer

NARS Koliary Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “cyan blue.” It’s a rich, light-medium blue–it’s almost cyan, though I’d say it’s a touch less intense. It doesn’t have the same brightness that traditional cyan has. Zoya Phoebe is darker and dries matte. Zoya Robyn is a smidgen lighter.

Koliary is opaque in two coats, and the formula is a dream to work with: not too thick or too thin, so it applies fluidly, evenly, and easily across the nail without pooling along the sides or bubbling. There wasn’t even streaking on the first coat, which made the resulting finish flawless. NARS did a tremendous job with their Thakoon nail collaboration; some really top notch shades with excellent formulas. I typically get a week of wear with NARS formula without chipping and just minor tip wear.

MAC Touch of Red Nail Lacquer

MAC Hey, Sailor: Touch of Red Nail Lacquer

MAC Touch of Red Nail Lacquer ($17.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright yellow red.” This is a brightened medium red with pinky undertones–it doesn’t really look like a yellow-based red on me. It looks just slightly blue-based against my warmer skin tone. MAC Russian Red is a little darker. China Glaze Poinsettia is brighter. Zoya Sooki seems very similar. Butter London Pillar Box Red is a bit darker. China Glaze Hey Sailor is quite similar.

The formula of Touch of Red had an excellent consistency that was thin but not watery; it applied without streaking, but it wasn’t completely opaque after two coats–though it is certainly close. It’s only at certain angles and lighting situations where you can see the white of the nail line. It flowed easily across the nail without bubbling or pooling along the sides.  I don’t have any issues with MAC’s lacquer formula as far as wear goes; I get a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chipping.

It's a gorgeous red with a beautiful formula, and you could easily get fully opacity with a third coat without the end result looking thick. I don't think it needs a third coat, because it's nearly opaque after two. There are a fair number of dupes on the market, as it is a red cream.

Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “pink bronze with pearl.” It’s a rosy brown with pink and gold shimmer. At a glance, it reminded me of Bobbi Brown Canary, which is sheer with a ton of gold sparkle (but no pink). MAC Fancy Cat is darker, browner. MAC Spree is very similar but has a more metallic sheen.

Bobbi Brown’s High Shimmer Lipgloss is well-put–it’s ridiculously shimmery and sparkly. Beach is semi-opaque; the color darkens my natural lip color and adds a fine dusting of shimmer along with larger pink and gold sparkle.  It has a lightweight, comfortable feel on the lips with a non-sticky consistency and is mint-scented.  I love that it never feels gritty, not when you initially apply it nor when it fades away (after about four hours), and it doesn’t travel.  The formula is also moisturizing with just enough thickness that it glides and applies evenly.

This is a great grab-and-go gloss, because it's neutral without being too dark or too pale. There's enough color to significantly tint your lips, but it's not too bold or bright. If you love shimmer and sparkle, this is worth checking out!

Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color
Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color

Tom Ford Casablanca Lip Color ($48.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a reddened plum with a cream finish and a natural shine. NARS Christina is redder and has a golden shimmer. Guerlain Rose Bengale is slightly brighter and has pale pink shimmer. MAC Red Dwarf is more berry, less pink. MAC Positively Dashing is slightly darker and pinker. MAC Deliciously Forbidden is brighter and pinker. Hourglass Nocturnal is very similar but a little redder. Dior Ruby is a touch darker. MAC Offshoot is browner. MAC Craving is very similar. Maybelline Bit of Berry is a little lighter and pinker.

As you can see, there are numerous shades that are similar to this one; some shades are a little redder, others are a bit pinker, and a few are fairly close. Casablanca has good color coverage, as it applied opaque and hides my lip freckle quite well. It has a creamy, smooth consistency that enables it to glide on evenly and easily. Even though it has opaque color and a creamy feel, it doesn’t sit heavily on the lips. It’s comfortable to wear, and it wears well–a solid five hours–while lightly moisturizing the lips.

Tom Ford’s lipstick range is vanilla-scented but doesn’t have any discernible taste. It comes in a square tube with gold metal accents and brown “paneling” on the exterior of the tube. I like that the outer tube doesn’t hold fingerprints, and there’s a satisfying click when you close the lipstick, so it stays together better if you toss it around in a bag. The brand’s logo is cut into the tip of the lipstick.

Tom Ford has a really good lipstick formula, though I have found the range to be more dupeable than not in terms of color. Depending on your needs, you may aspire to own something more unique at this price point. It's a very wearable shade, though, and it wears well.

OCC Acacia Loose Colour Concentrate
OCC Acacia Loose Colour Concentrate

OCC Acacia Loose Colour Concentrate

OCC Acacia Loose Colour Concentrate ($12.00 for 0.088 oz. / 2.5 grams) is described as a “yellow with blue-green duochrome.” It’s a light-medium gold with yellow-brown undertones and a subtle green duochrome. The duochrome is hard to catch except at just the right angles. It can be really pretty when you do catch it, though. Bare Escentuals Remix is a bit darker, more golden, and has no duochrome. MAC Treasure Hunt is paler, less yellow. Bare Escentuals Standing O is paler. Urban Decay Eldorado is darker and has no duochrome. MAC Gorgeous Gold is the closest shade I could think of, as it also has a green-ish duochrome, though it appears a little more golden with less brown in it.

Acacia has a soft, finely-milled texture that applies smoothly and evenly both wet and dry. I get about the same color payoff either way (which is good), but the metallic finish comes forth when it is applied dampened. When I wore this on the lid, it lasted a full eight hours without creasing or fading.  I don’t normally like using loose eyeshadows, but I’ve been loving the feel and application of OCC’s spring/summer shades.  I only wish the duochrome in this shade was more pronounced; I thought it might come out by wearing a green eyeshadow next to it (Foxfire), but it didn’t seem to help.
