Urban Decay Perversion Ink for Eyes
Urban Decay Perversion Ink for Eyes

Urban Decay Perversion All Night Eyeliner ($20.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a glossier, deep dark black. See comparison swatches / view dupes. The consistency is creamy enough that it glides evenly and easily across the lash line or lid without tugging or dragging, and it delivers good color payoff in a single stroke. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours before starting to fade/thin.

Urban Decay Perversion Ink for Eyes ($20.00 for 0.02 fl. oz.) is a deep, dark, neutral black with a satiny finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes. It’s easy to maneuver, and you can easily create thin to medium lines depending on whether you use the very tip of the pen or hold it more horizontally for a wider line. The liquid flowed evenly out of the pen, and it never seemed to dry up or require shaking to restart the flow of the eyeliner–and the lines it left were richly pigmented and fully opaque. It dried down fairly quickly, set and stayed in place on me for ten hours. It also removed easily with cleansing oil (I used shu’s).

Sisley Paris Toffee (7) Phyto-Ombre Eclat Eye Shadow
Sisley Paris Toffee (7) Phyto-Ombre Eclat Eye Shadow

Sisley Paris Toffee (7) Phyto-Ombre Eclat Eye Shadow ($47.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark, red-toned brown with warm undertones and a soft, satin finish. Makeup Geek Brown Sugar (P, $5.99) is darker, less red-toned. Anastasia Truffle (LE) is less warm-toned. Inglot #122R Bottom (P, $6.00) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Exposed (LE, $15.00) is more muted, lighter. Guerlain Les Fauves #2 (LE) is warmer. See comparison swatches.

The Phyto-Ombre Eclat formula is supposed to wear all-day long and have a great texture with blendable, buildable color. The brand also says that based on the “naturally-derived extracts (green tea, white lily, and camellia)” that the formula also “protects and softens the delicate epidermis of the eyelids.” I can’t attest to any long-term effects of wearing Sisley’s formula, but as an eyeshadow, it is exceptional. It is really everything you’d want in an eyeshadow: richly pigmented, beautifully blendable, incredibly finely-milled but never powdery, and long-wearing. It very nearly blends itself, but it doesn’t sheer out–it adheres well to the bare skin with even, smooth color, and the edges soften almost as you apply the color. When I tested it, the color wore well for nine hours with very, very minimal fading. Whether it’s worth it is going to depend on the individual, as it’s a luxury product with a corresponding price point, but at least it performs at a high level.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick

Just launched, Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) promises a formula that’s richly pigmented, hydrating, and long-wearing (six hours). The range includes 21 shades that range from beige to pink to coral to plum. You can see an official breakdown of the shade range here. I bought four shades from Nordstrom last week, and I’ve been testing them since they arrived this week. The formula is intensely pigmented, somewhat hydrating, and long-wearing. The consistency is lighter weight, thin, lightly creamy, and hugs the lips, but not in a clingy, saran wrap kind of way, so it’s not uncomfortable. They have a sweet, vanilla scent, which is a departure from Estee Lauder’s traditional fig scent, though no taste, and come in a deep, navy blue, square case with a magnetic closure.

Defiant Coral is described as a “bright, pink coral.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark, coral-orange with strong, warm undertones and a luminous shine. It had rich, opaque color coverage, and the color applied evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for five and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shout (138) (LE, $30.00) is more matte, slightly pinker. Givenchy Rose Dentelle (203) (P, $36.00) is very similar. Too Faced Coral Fire (P, $21.00) is less glossy. Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) (P, $36.00) is pinker. Chanel Pygmalion (LE, $34.00) is less pigmented. MAC Lady at Play (P, $22.00) is less glossy, slightly darker. MAC Hibiscus (LE, $16.00) is darker. Chanel Genial (LE, $34.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Dominant is described as a “vibrant fuchsia.” It’s a bold, brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with a luminous shine. It had intensely pigmentation and yielded full color coverage when applied that was both even and smooth. This shade lasted over six hours and left behind a soft stain while being somewhat hydrating. MAC Feeling Amorous? (LE, $20.00) is more muted, warmer. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is lighter. Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) (P, $36.00) is similar. MAC Girl About Town (P, $16.00) is very similar, less glossy. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.

Infamous is described as a “bright, vibrant yellow pink.” It is a neutral-to-warm-toned, medium pink with a luminous finish. When swatched, it appears a bit darker and warmer, but applied, it is brighter and read more blue-based against my skin tone. It had rich, opaque color coverage, and the color applied evenly. This shade wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating during that time. MAC Bold Spring (P, $22.00) is cooler-toned. YSL Fuchsia Tourbillon (31) (P, $34.00) is similar. Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $49.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Marc Jacobs Beauty Gossip (140) (LE, $30.00) is more matte, cooler-toned. L’Oreal Pink Flamingo (180) (P, $8.95) is lighter. NARS Goodbye Emmanuelle (LE, $26.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. MAC Playtime (LE, $17.00) is lighter. Maybelline Fuchsia Flash (P, $7.49) is brighter, darker. See comparison swatches.

Vengeful Red is described as a “deep cool red.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a luminous sheen. It had fully opaque color coverage applied to the lips, and it went on evenly and smoothly. This color wore well for six and a half hours and left a stain behind, and the formula was somewhat hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Neo-Noir (126) (P, $30.00) is very similar. Urban Decay 69 (P, $22.00) is less glossy. Edward Bess Eternal Passion (P, $32.00) is similar. Maybelline On Fire Red (P, $7.49) is a little brighter. MAC Eden Rouge (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Guerlain Vega (P, $35.00) is a touch darker. Buxom Scoundrel (P, $21.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches.

Illamasqua Throb Nail Varnish
Illamasqua Throb Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Throb Nail Varnish ($17.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “blood red.” It’s a medium-dark, subtly cool-toned red with a cream finish. There’s a pink tinge to it, and it’s bright but a little dusty, too. Revlon Bordeaux (P, $4.99) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty Trophy Wife (LE, $32.00) is lighter, brighter. NARS Lost Red (LE, $19.00) is brighter. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Stage Red (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Flaming Rose (P, $16.00) is similar. Chanel Suspicious (P, $27.00) is pinker. Butter London Pillar Box Red (P, $15.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Recently promoted for Valentine’s Day, Throb is a worthwhile option for anyone seeking a more muted, darker red cream. It’s intensely pigmented, and you really only need one coat for full color coverage. I’ve included two sets of photos; the first set is a single coat, and then I have a couple more that shows two coats, so you can see how there’s no real difference in color or opacity. To me, the noticeable difference is just that two coats gives it a thicker, glossier look and finish. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it flowed evenly and smoothly across the nail without bubbling or streaking. Illamasqua’s formula typically wears seven to ten days on me with very minor tip wear but no chipping.

Urban Decay Flash Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Flash Eyeshadow

A couple of weeks ago, I was going through our Urban Decay Eyeshadow gallery, and I noticed we were missing a few shades from the permanent range–which was something that needed to be rectified!

Urban Decay Flash Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright iridescent purple shimmer.” It’s a medium, cool-toned purple with a medium, frosted finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, smooth, and buttery. It wore well for eight hours before starting to fade. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm #5 (LE) is darker. Fyrinnae Snowboarding (P, $6.80) is more iridescent. Kat Von D Babe (LE) is warmer. theBalm A2 (LE, $16.00) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Betrayal (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Illamasqua Trance (LE) is a cream product. Inglot #441 (P, $6.00) is darker, brighter. See comparison swatches

Urban Decay Psychedelic Sister Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep amethyst shimmer.” It’s a medium, plummy purple with subtle warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff–could have been more intense–but the texture was soft, smooth, and easy to blend. The color wore well for just over eight hours. Dior Lilas Mitzah (176) (P, $29.00) is darker. Urban Decay Vice (LE, $18.00) is darker, less warm-toned. Sugarpill Hysteric (P, $12.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches.

Urban Decay Woodstock Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “saturated deep pink shimmer.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a soft, frosted finish. This shade lasted for nine hours before showing signs of fading. Sugarpill Smitten (LE, $12.00) is slightly brighter. Too Faced Bright Eyes (LE, $16.00) is a smidgen darker. Too Faced Totally Fetch (LE, $16.00) is a touch brighter. Fyrinnae Superstar (P, $6.80) is brighter, cooler-toned. Urban Decay Noise (LE, $18.00) is more muted. MAC Tease with Ease (DC, $21.00) is darker, warmer, less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Cult Nails Nevermore Nail Lacquer
Cult Nails Nevermore Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails Nevermore Nail Lacquer ($12.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as as “high gloss black.” It’s a deep, dark, glossy black cream. NARS Back Room (LE, $19.00) is very similar, just a little glossier on the dry down. Illamasqua Boosh (P, $17.00) is also very similar. See comparison swatches.

Consider this post my ode to Nevermore, because it is a fantastic, out-of-this-world black cream. It’s intensely pigmented to the point that it really only needs one coat for full color coverage, but two gives such a wondrous, inky, deep, glossy finish that if I wore it alone, I’d still apply two. Whenever I’m trying out a new layering top coat, Nevermore is my go-to. It’s just so easy to apply, dries quickly, and never fails. The consistency is not too thick or too thin, so the application is flawless–smooth, no streaking or bubbling, and even. I typically get a full week of wear with very minor tip wear with Cult Nails’ formula.
