Inglot Matte Eyeshadow Palette #2

Inglot Matte Eyeshadows in #332, 336, 322, 371, 367, 388, 369 (Blues)

To finish off this palette of Inglot’s Matte Eyeshadows ($4.50 to $7.00 each for 0.09 oz.), we look at enough blue to paint a sky.

  • 332 is a deep navy blue with a hint of indigo and a matte finish. I detected the faintest bit of blue micro-shimmer.
  • 336 is a cornflower blue with a matte finish. I found it a smidgen on the sheer side, but it seems like it is buildable. It’s a bit like MAC’s Winkle.
  • 322 is a bright, medium cyan blue with a matte finish.
  • 371 is a bright cyan blue with a matte finish–it is just slightly lighter than #322.
  • 367 is a pale, whitened sky blue with a matte finish. This was a little sheer and blended out too quickly (and ended up looking sheer).
  • 388 is a vibrant, dark blue-purple with a matte finish. It seems comparable to MAC’s Atlantic Blue.
  • 369 is a soft, paled periwinkle blue with a matte finish. Like #336, it was a touch sheer.

These are really soft mattes; they have a really buttery feel to them, where you can feel the powder loosening as you swatch.  They aren’t particularly powdery, though they’ll kick up a little dust if you are heavy handed with your brush.  A little product goes a long way, so there’s no reason to jab at the eyeshadow with a brush (something you might have done with past matte eyeshadows).  The softness and give allow these to apply smoothly and evenly; there is no patchiness or drag with these.  The only downside to these is if you really pack on the color, you might find that it fades (ever-so-marginally) after eight hours; it’s a very minimal drawback, resulting in 0.5 point reduction in longevity.

#367 was the one I had the most trouble with; I think the lightness alone emphasizes any shortcomings it has–it’s a little sheer, slightly powdery, and the end result is something patchy.  #336 and #369 were more buildable in color but still had some noticeable sheerness.

Inglot Matte Eyeshadow Palette #2

Inglot Matte Eyeshadows in #385, 372, 345, 340, 338, 389, 321 (Teals & Dark Blues)

Our look at Inglot’s Matte Eyeshadows ($4.50 to $7.00 each for 0.09 oz.) continues onto some shades of teal, indigo, and dark blues.  You can check out the Inglot Eyeshadow Swatch Gallery if you’re looking for more swatches! :)  It’s getting quite full!

  • 385 is a subtly, cool-toned, medium-dark green with a matte finish.
  • 372 is a medium-dark, blue-teal with a matte finish.
  • 345 is a pale aqua blue with a matte finish. It was a touch sheer.
  • 340 is a deep, dark blackened teal with a matte finish (but I swear, there were very tiny particles of micro-shimmer throughout — I swatched all of Inglot’s mattes first, so there was no residual shimmer from previous swatches).
  • 338 is a darkened cornflower blue with a matte finish.
  • 389 is a blackened blue with a hint of purple with a matte finish. This shade was a little sheer and harder to work with.
  • 321 is a dark, purple-blue with a matte finish. Like #340, it seems like it has a little bit of micro-shimmer.

I would skip #345 because of the sheerness of the color, while the rest are worth taking a look at. The standouts were definitely #372 and #338.

MAC Eyeshadow Swatches – Oranges, Yellows, Golds

More MAC eyeshadow swatches for the Swatch Gallery ! :) I’m working my way through my “permanent” palettes (which are organized by color and house mostly permanent shades, but there are a few discontinued/limited edition shades in them) for now. I don’t own all of MAC’s permanent eyeshadows, so some shades may be missing that fall into one of the color categories.

Rule is a medium orange, not too bright or dark, with a matte finish.
Coral is an orange-coral–honestly more orange than a true coral–with a matte finish. It was a PRO shade but may have been discontinued.
Samoa Silk is a peachy orange with a veluxe finish (which looks and acts mostly like a matte).
Goldenrod is a darkened yellow with a hint of orange. It has a satin finish.
Juiced is a dirty orange with gold shimmer and a velvet finish. It is a discontinued shade.
Goldmine is a gold-shimmered yellow gold with a metallic sheen. It has a frost finish.
Bright Sunshine is a bright yellow with a frost finish. It is a PRO shade.
Bright Yellow is a muted canary yellow with a seemingly matte finish. I don’t know what the official finish of this is, and as far as I know, it was discontinued. It was a PRO shade.
Gorgeous Gold is a soft, yellowy gold with a green-blue iridescence. It has a veluxe pearl finish.
Nylon is a pale white gold with a high shine finish. It has a frost finish.

MAC’s matte finishes tend to be a harder/drier matte, which translate better in actual eyeshadow application rather than a simple swatch, but shades like Rule are excellent on both fronts.  I’ve often reached for Rule when I wanted to do a sunset-themed eye look.  Shades like Bright Sunshine and Nylon have stellar color payoff, while Juiced easily sheers out.  Gorgeous Gold has a fun duochrome, and it works well with blues, greens, and teals.

This is a really nice batch of eyeshadows (in quality) - the mattes have good color payoff both on skin and in application, while the shimmery shades are the same (but that's more expected!).

Revlon Rich Temptations CustomEyes Shadow & Liner Duo

Revlon Rich Temptations (030) Custom Eyes Shadow & Liner Duo ($8.99 for 0.20 oz.) is a palette that contains four eyeshadows and one eyeliner, though they’re all essentially eyeshadows, with one shade being particularly dark. It’s housed in a pretty sleek black compact that flips open. The palette is very slim, which makes it great as a space-saver in makeup bags, and it should be sturdy enough to tag along with you.

Inside, there is a deep, dark purpled plum with a satin sheen; muted grayish green with a soft, satin sheen; pale, warm beige with a soft, frost finish; medium-dark red-toned plum with a satin sheen; and a pale, dusty pink with a soft, satin sheen. The green shade was a bit soft and would fade when applied, so the color payoff could have been marginally better there, but it was buildable. The other three shades were nicely pigmented, though.  The light pink shade was really sheer when applied, but I wasn’t able to build up the intensity at all. The texture of these was lovely, though; really silky smooth with a softness that enabled the powder to apply well to the eye and blend effortlessly with each other.

I think the combination of colors here works well together, and it's not a color scheme I've seen often. It should work well on cooler skin tones, but I think the mix of shades should still work on warmer skin tones!

China Glaze Oxidized Aqua Metal Crackle Glaze over Deborah Lippmann Lady Sings the Blues Nail Lacquer

For summer, China Glaze has six new Crackle Glazes–this time in metallic finishes. The six shades include: Cracked Medallion (Bold bronze), Haute Metal (pale pink), Latticed Lilac (soft lavender), Oxidized Aqua (deep aquamarine blue), Platinum Pieces (shimmering silver), and Tarnished Gold (warm, honeyed hue). These will be available in late June/early July.

China Glaze recommends using a lighter coat of polish for a “fine crackle” while a thicker coat will give a “deep shatter effect.” I found the formula on these to be thicker rather than thinner, and it was far easier to do one thicker coat than doing a thin coat. I tried a few times, and the best part about the crackle trend is well, they’re not clean. Messy is totally okay. Normally, if you did a thin coat and it was a little wonky and uneven, you’d have issues, but with these, it won’t be noticeable once it crackles!

These will dry mostly matte, so you’ll want to use a shiny top coat (I used Nubar’s Diamont for all swatches, except Cracked Medallion). I prefer using a thicker top coat, too, just to give a smoother feel on the actual nail. I tried to use different finishes for the base colors, from cream to jelly to shimmer to glitter. It seemed like the Metal Crackle Glaze worked about the same across the finishes. It is best to wait until your base color has dried before applying the crackle coat, though, because it may pull at the base color and give it a sheerer look (I didn’t quite wait long enough before applying Latticed Lilac, for example).

  • Cracked Medallion is a burnished, copper-flecked gold. I wore it over Becca’s Tangerine Dream, which is a coral-orange.
  • Haute Metal is a mauve-tinted pink with silver and pink metallic shimmer. I wore it over Butter London’s Branwen’s Feather, which is a deep, dark plum purple.
  • Latticed Lilac is a silvered lilac splashed with violet and silver shimmer. I wore it over Deborah Lippmann’s I Know What Boys Like, which is a medium-dark indigo blue jelly.
  • Oxidized Aqua is a silver shimmered aquamarine. I wore it over Deborah Lippmann’s Lady Sings the Blues, which is an inky blackened blue with hexagonal glitter.
  • Platinum Pieces is a medium-dark silver with silver shimmer. I wore it over Butter London Thames, which is a medium-dark green-leaning teal with metallic shimmer.
  • Tarnished Gold is a medium-dark yellow gold. I wore it over Butter London’s British Racing Green, a rich, deep dark hunter green.

I’ve only been testing the wear for a day and half or so, as these just arrived. Based on my experience with China Glaze’s polishes, including their original Crackle Glaze polishes, I’m expecting normal wear (seven days with minor tip wear). If wear falls below that, I will revise the review to reflect that.

These are more forgiving than the cream Crackle Glazes and easier to use as well. I find that what makes or breaks the crackle look is the base color, because you can really have fun with the color combinations--and that's what makes a crackle look "cool" to me.

Revlon Strawberry ColorBurst Lipgloss ($7.49 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “weightless gloss [that] makes lips pop with 5x more shine than patent leather.” It’s supposed to yield mirror-like shine with “rich color” and a “weightless feel.” It also includes “moisturizers and anti-oxidants such as sweet almond oil and vitamin E.” The range includes fifteen shades.

Strawberry is a softened pink-red with subtle, warm yellow undertones and flecks of silver and pink micro-glitter. The formula is soft and smooth, and while it’s a little thick and nearly non-sticky, it’s comfortable to wear. I was able to get semi-opaque color with ltitle effort, and there was definitely a high-shine finish.  This gloss wore about three hours on me, which is particularly noteworthy given that it isn’t a sticky gloss.  I wouldn’t call it a moisturizing lipgloss, but it didn’t dry out my lips either.

I detected a subtle scent of sweet vanilla initially, but the scent seems to disappear in the tube and when worn on lips quickly–the two tubes I bought two or three months ago no longer have any scent to them.   The packaging is slim and functional, with a semi-matte black cap and clear tube.  The applicator is interesting, as it is an indented doe-foot (best understood by a visual, as included below).

Revlon's ColorBurst Lipglosses are one of the best drugstore lipglosses I've come across, and it would hold its own against some high-end lipglosses, too. The pigmentation is on point with formula that doesn't dry out lips, wears well, and looks as shiny as advertised.
