Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow
Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mirror dark green.” It’s a subtly warmed-up forest green with a soft, golden olive undertone and a green-gold shimmer with a frosted, metallic finish. L’Oreal Golden Emerald is lighter, warmer. Inglot #414 is cooler-toned, tealer. Inglot #418 is greener. Make Up For Ever #310 is less metallic.

When applied dry, it had rather disappointing color payoff; it appeared dry and a bit uneven, and overall, semi-sheer. When applied with a damp brush, it took on a much more intense color; it applied more evenly, smoothly, and was mostly opaque. Sephora’s Mirror finish is interesting, because it has the sparkling quality of a glitter eyeshadow matched with the reflective quality of a metallic finish but without the fall out problems.  While it didn’t wear the full ten hours Sephora claimed, it did hold up well; there was only some very minor fading along the edges.

Sephora French Riviera (04) Eyeshadow
Sephora French Riviera (04) Eyeshadow

Sephora French Riviera (04) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “glittering gold.” It’s a warm, yellow gold with a frosted, metallic finish and gold micro-glitter. Urban Decay Spell is darker but has a similar finish (including the micro-glitter). L’Oreal Gold Imperial is lighter and has a browner base. Urban Decay Blitz is a touch browner/less yellow. Inglot #403 is yellower and has no micro-glitter. Make Up For Ever #10 is a touch warmer and has no micro-glitter.  Generally, French Riviera was slightly less warm, orange/brown, so it is a “cooler” gold (but not really cool-toned).

It has a glitter finish, and it won’t come as much of as a surprise, but there is fall out both during application and later on while the shade is worn. I found the fall out and feel to be in line with Urban Decay’s micro-glitter-infused eyeshadows. I’d love for a glittery eyeshadow that would apply and stay put, but unfortunately, this isn’t it. The texture of French Riviera is soft and smooth, so the underlying gold base is lovely and works, once you get past the glittery fall out. I found that much of the glitter gets lost during application and little remains on the actual lid, so there isn’t a lot left to fall out while it is worn (and fall out during application is easier to deal with, since you can clean it up and be done with it).   When I wore this shade, I had no problems with it wearing a full ten hours without fading or creasing–but the micro-glitter did migrate.

If you like micro-glitter and don't mind applying with a special base, I'd still consider the shade. If you loathe micro-glitter and don't want to put in any extra effort, skip.

MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 Lipstick
MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 Lipstick

MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pastel lavender pink” with an Amplified finish. It’s a cool-toned, lavender pink with a creamy finish and natural sheen. MAC Budding Love is darker. MAC Fresh Amour is purpler. MAC Quite Cute is a touch pinker. MAC Pink Friday is darker, pinker. MAC I Like It Like That is darker, pinker. MAC Blooming Lovely is a little grayer and darker.  MAC Viva Glam Gaga is pinker and darker.

Viva Glam is by far one of my favorite charitable beauty causes, because it really does give back–the full selling price of the lipstick. It’s not just a gimmick where they give some unknown “portion of proceeds” or a dismal 5%.  Viva Glam Nicki 2 is fully opaque and has good slip and glide. It didn’t pull or tug at the lips while I applied the color from the tube.  When I wore it, the shade lasted four and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating during that time.  This color did seem to make my teeth appear a little yellower.

It's not a color that will appeal to everyone, but for those who like their really cool-toned pinks with lavender undercurrents, it's going to be a fun shade to play around with.

MAC Plumful Lipstick
MAC Plumful Lipstick

MAC Plumful Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “blossoming rose-plum” with a Lustre finish. It’s a pinky-plum with a little brightness but nothing too red or too over-the-top. Bobbi Brown Plum Rose is darker. MAC Capricious is more plum. Maybelline Bit of Berry is slightly darker. Bobbi Brown Wild Rose is pinker.

I find that this always looks very pink on me, and it often looks less pink on others. It has semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage; there’s translucency so it allows the natural lip color to come through. If you have redder lips, this is going to turn into a reddish plum shade and look less pink.  It has a soft, luminous finish, and it wears for three to four hours on me.  Plumful is probably one of my favorite Lustre finishes, because it isn’t drying and wears a bit longer than the norm.  It is, unfortunately, sold out with the snake skin embossing (although maybe MAC will restock), but Plumful is around in regular packaging all year-round, as it is part of the permanent range.

MAC Strawberry Malt Lipglass
MAC Strawberry Malt Lipglass

MAC Strawberry Malt Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright red.” It’s a pinky-red with cool undertones with no shimmer. MAC Cult of Cherry is darker and has ruby shimmer. MAC Send Me Sailing is redder. MAC Wicked Ways is a touch redder. NARS Strawberry Fields is pinker.

It has mostly opaque color coverage with a subtle translucency that gives it a very juicy, almost jelly-like, finish. It also seemed extra glossy compared to other shades in the Lipglass family. I didn’t have any problems with this feathering or bleeding on me when I wore it.  This will definitely pair well with Ronnie Red and give it a really rich, glossy look.  Strawberry Malt wore for four hours well.  The texture and consistency were as expected for Lipglass, which is a thicker consistency and tackier texture than the average gloss.

MAC Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder
MAC Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder

MAC Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder ($30.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “golden peach base with coral hearts.” The base color is a warm peach with a soft, frosted finish (and it is reminiscent of Cream Soda in some ways). The hearts are a medium pink-coral with a subtle golden sheen. When everything is mixed together, the resulting shade is a soft, pinky-coral with a light golden sheen. It’s slightly warm-toned. MAC Legendary is just a touch pinker. MAC Immortal Flower is much, much pinker. Tarina Tarantino Feather is brighter, pinker. Guerlain Blush G is pinker and has a stronger sheen. MAC Shell Pearl is similar but a touch more muted.

I had the same problem with Flatter Me as I did Veronica’s Blush–the hearts did not want to yield color at all. I took a metal spatula to it and started scraping off flakes of it, so I could at least show the color on the skin. What you’re seeing on my skin are chunks of the product smoothed out! It seems better when you really pass the brush back and forth a few times, because the combined color is tinted pink enough that clearly there is some payoff coming from those hearts!

The texture is very soft to the touch with a finely-milled powder that does kick up some powder. On the skin and blended out, it doesn’t look powdery, and the finish is a soft shimmer-sheen so it doesn’t emphasize the skin’s texture or pores. This shade lasted eight hours well, and after nine hours, I noticed some minor fading, but it had good wear overall.   Because of the overall lightness of the color, it may not show up well on deeper skin tones; on my medium complexion, it shows up as a kiss of pink-coral. Of all the products not to sell out, this one surprised me the most–a coral face product with hearts–I still can’t believe it.
