It’s the beginning of September, and all eyes are on New York Fashion Week and the upcoming Presidential Elections. So, this season MAC Cosmetics is bringing Election Day to New York Fashion Week. As the leading makeup authority and official makeup sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009, MAC Cosmetics is backstage at over 85 shows, creating and defining the beauty looks for the upcoming season. And with Election Day fast approaching and the nation’s focus on a change in leadership, MAC uses the backstage at Fashion Week as its platform to weigh in on what they envision the key White House beauty trends to be for some of Washington’s top female contenders. November 4th is just around the corner, so MAC. takes its first beauty poll backstage and let’s the fashionistas decide.

“Washington power women are in the spotlight and have to look and feel their best not only in person, but also on television. In a world of High Definition television that shows every facial imperfection, makeup has to be flawless and refined, which can be incredibly challenging”, says Gordon Espinet, Vice President of Makeup Artistry, MAC Cosmetics Worldwide. “Red Lipstick is a great option as it commands attention and communicates a desire to be taken seriously. Blotting Powder is a must especially under hot lights as it keeps oil at bay and prevents shine. Mascara opens and defines the eyes, and MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is an essential as it gives a smooth, even finish without a cakey look.”

MAC’s talented Senior Artists created various beauty looks they feel will appeal to the women who are immersed in this hot political season and that can easily take them from a debate to an evening gala – no matter what skin tone or hair colour you have – MAC has colours that will help make you look like the belle of the ball.

Regardless of which candidate wins on Election Day, we have to appreciate the fact that it is a turning point in not only our countries’ political history, but also world history and MAC is inspired by all of the women and men who are a part of it.

“A monochromatic, couture face. The look is inspired by the man who fell to earth, david bowie, a mixture of technology and nature.” – James Kaliardos

“The look has a chic 70′s/80′s jet-set feeling, but it’s not retro perfected neat makeup, it’s a little bit more smudged which makes it modern.” – Tom Pecheux

“The look is dramatic but with a softness to it. The inspiration for the collection was botticelli and the contrast of black and white, so the look is a contrast of a strong eye and a soft lip.” – Diane Kendal

“There’s a french vibe going on. It’s a bit edith piaf but the skin and the sensual orange lip keep it contemporary.” – James Kaliardos

Eyes: select cover-up concealer – applied to lids as a base. Copperplate eye shadow – drawn into the crease of the eyelids and blended in a round shape down over the lids, up and out toward the brow bone and along the lower lash line.
Cheeks: Fun and Games powder blush – buffed into the upper portion of the cheek bones and temple area in a “c” shape. Luna cream colour base – touched onto the high planes of the cheekbones.

Lips: Gentle Coral tinted lip conditioner spf 15 – applied as a base and top coat to lips, then blotted. Rich Coral mac pro cream colour base – patted onto lips.

“The inspiration for the collection was how women worked during war time but still looked glamorous, so the look is tough but elegant and sophisticated at the same time.” – Diane Kendal

Eyes: Omega or Coquette eye shadow – brushed onto brows in a straight line.
